Stamping + Pigment Powders
Hello there! I have been a fan of pigment powders for many, many years. It is an inexpensive product that can be used in many creative ways! Today I share lots of ideas for using it with stamping.

There are a few types of pigment powders out there, but I prefer the Ranger Perfect Pearls because of the great price point and color selection. Also, it has a built-in resin to help it stay put. You can lightly mist Perfect Pearl projects with water to help it stay, but I find it best to use a fixative spray to protect it. Many fixative would work – I used Design Master Clear Finish Matte Spray because I had it on hand for sealing painted rocks that my kids made. 🙂
I focused on the basic Perfect Pearl color of Perfect Pearls for my cards. You can get it individually, in a set, or in a metallic set. I recommend the sets because you get the brush, too! You can also get Perfect Pearls in MANY colors.
My first card shows basic stamping with Perfect Pearls. I stamped images from the Altenew Perfectly Perfect Stamp Set (SSS | ALT) set on Gina K Tranquil Teal Cardstock with Versamark Ink. I then brushed the Perfect Pearls over the sticky ink, and wiped away the excess with a Swiffer Dusting Cloth.
After spraying the background with a fixative, I added my embellishments. The flowers and leaves are white heat embossed on Grafix Platinum Vellum and the sentiments are from the Altenew Pinstripe (SSS | ALT) and Sweetest Peas (SSS | ALT) stamp sets.
My next card shows another basic technique for using Perfect Pearls. This time, I started with Gina K Tranquil Teal Cardstock and covered it completely with Versamark Ink. Next I stamped Altenew Perfectly Perfect Stamp Set (SSS | ALT) flowers on top with Versamark Ink. This removes the Perfect Pearls and creates a stunning look!
I finished the card with a Grafix Platinum Vellum die cut circle, colored flowers, and a sentiment from the Altenew Leaf Canopy Stamp Set (SSS | ALT).
Here you can see a comparison between the two techniques. (Oh – and I linked the matching envelope sources in the thumbnails below.)
Perfect Pearls works great with background stamps! Here, I stamped the new Altenew Moroccan Mosaic Stamp Set (SSS | ALT) background with Versamark Ink and applied Perfect Pearls. I then stamped the background again with Versamark Ink, but slightly offset a bit. Where the images overlap, the Perfect Pearls is removed. So pretty! Oh and this Simon Says Stamp Royal Purple Cardstock is a great color.
I added a vellum-stamped leaf from the Altenew Leaf Canopy Stamp Set (SSS | ALT)… and sentiment strips using the Altenew Pinstripe (SSS | ALT) and Sweetest Peas (SSS | ALT) stamp sets.
Here is another example using a background stamp. I am crazy in love with the new Altenew Pinstripe Stamp Set (SSS | ALT)! Such a useful, subtle background. I first stamped and added Perfect Pearls. I then rotated the stamp again and stamped with Altenew Coral Berry Ink. I LOVE this look! And that Gina K Coral Reef Cardstock is a great summer color.
I added embossed vellum flowers from the Altenew Cherished Memories Stamp Set (SSS | ALT) and a sentiment made from the Altenew Majestic Bloom Dies (SSS | ALT) and Altenew Leaf Canopy Stamp Set (SSS | ALT). The die cut words are covered with Tonic Aqua Shimmer Pens and Tonic Crystal Glaze so they stand out.
Here is another creative way to use Perfect Pearls. I first white heat embossed the outline leaf image from the Altenew Leaf Canopy Stamp Set (SSS | ALT). on Gina K Jelly Bean Green Cardstock. I then stamped the matching solid leaf image on top with Versamark ink and added Perfect Pearls. Finally, I “stamped” the uninked Altenew Pinstripe Stamp Set (SSS | ALT) on top. This removed the Perfect Pearls in stripes from the leaves. SO cool!
I layered a few “love” Altenew Script Words Dies (SSS | ALT) die cuts together and covered the stacked piece with Tonic Aqua Shimmer Pens and Tonic Crystal Glaze.
Perfect Pearls are also fun to use with layered stamp sets. Here, I used them with the new Altenew Climbing Clematis Stamp Set (SSS | ALT) on Gina K Plum Punch Cardstock. Be sure to watch the video to see the steps I followed.
This is one of the products that looks much better in real life then in photos – the shine is amazing! The sentiments are from the Altenew Leaf Canopy Stamp Set (SSS | ALT).
Another set I really like from this Altenew release is the Altenew Ditsy Print Stamp Set (SSS | ALT). This can be used to make colorful layered flowers! However, I decided to stick with a monochromatic look with Perfect Pearls.
This card has just a bit of Perfect Pearls, but it makes a big difference!
You can also use Perfect Pearls to create a shimmer paper. Here, I inked cardstock and then applied Perfect Pearls. I die cut the paper with the Altenew Mega Alphabet H Die (SSS | ALT) and Altenew Mega Alphabet I Die (SSS | ALT) – such pretty shine! The “hello” is from the Flower Arrangement Die Set (SSS | ALT) and the background features the Moroccan Mosaic Cover Die (SSS | ALT).
Check out that shine…
