Sentiment stamp sets are a great investment since the sentiment is the most important element on a card. Today I am sharing both techniques and tips for using sentiments creatively.
For my first card, I used the entire My Favorite Things From the Heart Stamp Set (MFT | SSS) to create a background. (Many stamp sets would work for this… even sets with images.) Without removing the sentiments from the stamp backer, I inked them with Hero Arts Soft Granite Ink and stamped them all together onto white cardstock. I repeated this again, but this time stamping in between the first sentiments. This is a fun way to create a sentiment background!
I added a cluster of My Favorite Things Brushstroke Blooms Stamp Set (MFT | SSS) and a My Favorite Things Black & White Stripes Paper (MFT | SSS) strip. And be sure to watch the video to see a tip for how to get perfect stamping on thin cardstock strips! (I used the My Favorite Things Hearts in a Row Vertical Dies (MFT | SSS) for this perfect sentiment banner.)
I love the opening on this one – the front is cut a little short to show the patterned paper strip on the inside edge.
My second card shares more fun uses of sentiment stamps. For the bottom portion, I did the same sentiment technique as above, but this time with Hero Arts White Satin Pearl Embossing on peach cardstock. For the top portion of the card, I heat embossed the My Favorite Things Marble Background Stamp (MFT | SSS) with Hero Arts White Satin Pearl Embossing Powder on white cardstock. SWOON!
After adding a My Favorite Things Black & White Stripes Paper (MFT | SSS) strip and three hearts made with the My Favorite Things Hearts in a Row Horizontal Die Set (MFT | SSS), I added a sentiment strip. In the video I show how to line up two stamps together perfectly straight… as I did with “you are” and “my favorite person”. The sentiment is stamped on a My Favorite Things Hearts in a Row Horizontal (MFT | SSS) bannerdie cut. I also added Tonic Aqua Shimmer Pen shimmer to the hearts.
I used the My Favorite Things Full of Heart Stencil (MFT | SSS) and a Tonic Blending Sponge to ink up the flap of a matching envelope.
My third card shows how you can layer sentiments to create a fun background. I again stamped the entire My Favorite Things From the Heart Stamp Set (MFT | SSS) on the background, but this time diagonally. Directly on top, I repeatedly heat embossed “you are loved” from the My Favorite Things 100% Lovable Stamp Set (MFT | SSS) with Hero Arts White Satin Pearl Embossing Powder. I love this layered look!
I added hearts from the My Favorite Things Full of Heart Die (MFT | SSS)… scattering them around for a whimsical look. The “you” is from the My Favorite Things You Trio Dies (MFT | SSS)… the “I simply adore you” is from the My Favorite Things From the Heart Stamp Set (MFT | SSS) … and the banner die cut is from the My Favorite Things Hearts in a Row Horizontal Die Set (MFT | SSS). I covered the “you” die cut with Tonic Aqua Shimmer Pen shimmer and Tonic Crystal Glaze.
