I enjoy die cutting just as much as I do stamping. Maybe even a bit more! Die cutting opens the door to many amazing new techniques. Today I share techniques and tips for layering die cuts to get dimensional results.

My first card features the new Altenew Peony Dream 3D Dies (ALT | SSS). This die set cuts all the pieces you need to create layered, dimensional, and realistic-looking flowers and leaves. They are fun to put together… kind of like a puzzle! I glued the pieces together with Tim Holtz Distress Collage Adhesive so that I could move them to the perfect position while wet… but then it would hold well when dry.

The background is heat embossed with White Satin Pearl Embossing Powder and the Altenew Pattern Play Diamonds Stamp (ALT | SSS). The tone-on-tone white makes a soft backdrop for the bold flower. The “hello” was cut with the new Altenew Simple Alphabet Dies (ALT | SSS) and covered with Tonic Aqua Shimmer Pen and Tonic Crystal Glaze.

My second card is very similar to the first. However, in the video I showed how to use Xyron Creative Station to layer the Altenew Peony Dream 3D (ALT | SSS) die cuts together. The Xyron Creative Station basically turns die cuts into stickers. (There are many other Xyron machines that do this, too.)

After I assembled the Altenew Peony Dream 3D (ALT | SSS) flower, I pressed Versamark Ink generously on top and covered it with two coats of clear embossing. This makes the flower look ceramic!

The “hugs” was also cut with the new Altenew Simple Alphabet Dies (ALT | SSS) and covered with Tonic Aqua Shimmer Pen and Tonic Crystal Glaze. Notice how I used the same colors of cardstock as my first example, but the clear embossing turns it darker…

My next card uses the incredible Altenew Rose Flurries 3D Dies (ALT | SSS). I show in the video how to also create “die cut stickers” with Couture Creations Double Sided Adhesive. (I just wanted to show a few options so that maybe you can determine which is best for you.) I started with white cardstock for all of the die cuts… and changed the colors of each piece with markers.

I used the Altenew Caps Bold Alphabet Dies (ALT | SSS) to die cut “hugs” from a white cardstock piece and arranged the Altenew Rose Flurries 3D (ALT | SSS) flowers above and below the open letters. The stamped sentiment is from the Altenew Adore You Stamp Set (ALT | SSS) and I added Lucy’s Cards Iridescent Jewels for shine.

My last card using the fantastic Altenew Spring Shower Cover Die (ALT | SSS). This can be used in so many ways!!! I die cut the background from white cardstock and glued it onto a white notecard. I again die cut more of the tiny flowers and leaves and colored them… and “pieced” them back into place on the card background. This is so therapeutic! I also added tiny white dot details with my White Gelly Roll Pen.

The “hello” was created with the Altenew Simple Alphabet Dies (ALT | SSS) … and the stamped sentiment is from the Altenew Adore You Stamp Set (ALT | SSS). I also added a few white pearls.
