Hello! Today I thought I would share how to make slider and pull tab cards with hidden tracks. It makes for a fun surprise!

I have been wanting to try to make a slider card for some time now. However, I wanted to do so without seeing the slider “track” element. After playing around I was able to figure it out!

But please – if you have never done a slider card, I encourage you to check out the first several minutes of THIS fabulous video by Kelly Marie Alvarez of Lawn Fawn. She is the expert at these designs and the video makes it very easy to understand. I am taking those instructions and stepping them up a bit to hide the track.

I just had to use the new  Lawn Fawn Bicycle Built For You Stamp Set since Kelly said the little girl reminded her of Lila. 🙂 I agree! I stamped, copic-colored, and die cut the bike, girl, and dog elements and glued them together to be one piece. You can’t see in the photo, but I used a trick to make the bike slide without seeing the slider track. Be sure to watch the video to see how! The Lawn Fawn Slide On Over die set is fantastically helpful in creating slider tracks, but you could also cut your own track with a craft knife.

By tilting the card, the bike moves left to right. And you can’t see the track!

The clouds are from the older Lawn Fawn Yay Kites Stamp Set… and I used the gorgeous new Lawn Fawn Minty Fresh Dye Ink. (More on that below.) I die cut the grass with the Lawn Fawn Grassy Border Die.

For a variation of the same idea, I created a pull-tab card. Honestly, I prefer the pull-tab as it is clearer to the recipient how it works and you can add a hidden sentiment.

And when you pull the tab…

I couldn’t get over how cute the new Lawn Fawn Out of This World Stamp Set is so I had to make a card with it, too. I did a very similar design but put the slider at an angle. I also used a piece of acetate to help move the spaceboy side to side without see the track. It worked great!

The acetate piece allows the boy to look like he is floating.

INK SWATCH DOWNLOAD

I am a fan of Lawn Fawn’s Dye Inks. They dry quickly and smooth out a bit to give a solid image after some time. And they really don’t stain stamps much! They have recently added a few more colors (Minty Fresh, Ballet Slippers, Grape Soda, Peachy Keen, and Bubblegum) and now have 38 colored inks (plus the Yeti White Pigment Ink and the Jet Black Copic-friendly ink). Many are available now in cubes, too. For a closer look at the colors and how they compare, check out the video above. I find this is better than showing photos here.

In the video I also show my Ink Swatch Book. For the free Ink Swatch Download for the Lawn Fawn Inks – just click HERE. (You can find the Lawn Fawn inks HERE and learn more about them in THIS video.)

I have not made a slider card yet, mainly because I don’t like that you see the track. Seeing these hidden sliders makes me want to do them! Thanks for inspiring as usual!

These are really cute cards. I have made slider cards before but never thought about hiding the slider mechanism. I haven’t specifically made a pull tab card like yours, but I have made a card with a window, and you have to slide open the window to see the remainder of the sentiment. I’ll have to try hiding the mechanism and your idea of using acetate is a keeper. Thank you for sharing the technique.

Love the videos showing how to hide the slider track . I have made pop out cards, not exactly slider cards. I love those slide along with me dies, that seems like it would make life so much easier to do slider cards. I might have to give those a try. Love your video tutorials, I learn so much from them. Thank you so much for sharing and thanks for the chance to win.

Such fun cards, Jennifer. So far, I haven’t made any slider or pull-out cards, but it’s been on my crafty to do list for a while now, and I recently bought some MFT slider dies and elements. But after seeing your video, I may start with a hidden slider. Love the way it looks.

  14. Linda Miltzow says:

Hi, Jennifer! Sorry to say that I have not tried a slider or pull tab card, but I really like the hidden track. Now that my grandkiddies are getting to the age of really enjoying interactive cards, this will have to be on my “must do” card idea list. Thanks again for showing your ideas, tips, and tricks…especially the acetate for that floating look 🙂

Yes, I’ve made both slider and pull tab cards, but these dies sure look like they’ll make it a lot faster and easier. Golly, why didn’t I ever think of hiding the track?! Then it doesn’t matter how ugly my track is! Brilliant!

  25. Tammy B says:

Great video! I think I made a pull card once or twice in a class. I don’t usually make them because I find it difficult to cut out the tracks with a paper trimmer, I don’t really like to see the tracks either, and I haven’t had any cute images to slide! These dies look awesome though!

I recognize all the hard work you do but you still have my dream job. I just started YouTubing (I’ve blogged off and on for a while) but I love that video let’s you teach more than preach! I am trying to emulate your best video practices. It’s a lot of hours learning but I’m getting slowly better. Even if hardly anyone watches, its cathartic for me.
