I like using embossing folders to create a background; I don’t get ink all over everywhere like I do when I try other techniques – LOL! That being said, I’m anxious to get my fingers dirty and try new things.

  28. Norma Nakata says:

My favorite background technique is using background dies that I alter/cut up to create a different look. I always manage to alter the original intent of the design/technique and push it to another limit. I can’t leave things the way it is, always looking for that something extra out of a die. Before thin dies were invented, I’ve collected a stock pile of paper punches that I used for paper piecing. I love to play with paper! I’d love to win a spot for this class!

I like using backgrounds I create from close up photos of objects for texture. Then I use Photoshop filters to make it more abstract, more transparent, softer or even change the color to go with whatever color scheme needed for my card project. One of my favorite photos is a close up of my kitchen wall that I painted using a dragging technique and several shades of aqua.
