Video: Mirror Stamping + Giveaway!

Hello! I wanted to share with you a technique I have not done in a long time – mirror stamping. It seemed perfect for this cute deer stamp…

Mirror stamping is a technique stampers have been doing for years in many different ways. In this video, I shared my favorite way to get a mirror-image with heat embossing.

I simply stamped the adorable deer image from The Greeting Farm on a piece of clear transparency (acetate) with Versamark ink. I then pressed that down onto white cardstock to transfer the inked mirror image on to the cardstock. After adding gold powder and heat embossing it, I added soft color with Copic Markers. This results in a little deer that faces the opposite direction of what the stamp intended. Fun!

I added the deer to a cross-stitched-heart die cut from Memory Box and heat embossed the sentiment to match. To keep the card simple and soft, I used an ivory shimmer notecard. (I am a big fan of these shimmer cards!)

ADDITIONAL INSPIRATION

As I mentioned, there are many ways to do mirror stamping. One of the other best ways is to use the back of a clear stamp instead of a piece of acetate. To see this method in action, check out THIS video by my friend Chari Moss. (Thanks for letting me share your video, Chari.) I recommend that method if you want to use just a plain black ink instead of heat embossing. I will try to add this method into a future video, too.

In the video I also mentioned that my soft colors were inspired by one of my friends – Debby Hughes. I encourage you to check her out!

Finally, be sure to check out the newest release from The Greeting Farm. The little animals are adorable, easy to color and oh-so-happy! (The stamps are available at Simon Says Stamp HERE… or on The Greeting Farm website.)

Awww. I have to choose just one? I really like the embossing but when out & about, like visiting mom-in-law it’s hard to do that. So I utilize the distress inks or watercolor pencils for coloring in the stamped image. Thank You for showing this technique and sharing that cute card.

  2. Donna V says:

I love this technique! I’ve been stamping for years and the old mirror stamps were (are) so difficult to get a good image. The stamps are adorable, great for my little granddaughter.

  3. Mai says:

Beautiful card! Love the soft colors and the adorable deer. I don’t really use stamping techniques, but I do love heat embossing!

I love lots of techniques but the one that never loses it’s magical quality is heat embossing! It adds so much to any card too!

I love using Distress Inks for backgrounds, although, I haven’t quite perfected it yet. I have never seen this technique before, will definitely be trying it!! Thanks! 🙂

  7. Sheri K says:

Great technique, I hadn’t tried acetate, have used rubber I had purchased to make my own stamps with my digital cutter, which also worked. I’ll have to compare to acetate. Hmm, favorite stamping technique—so many and so hard to decide–I guess it’s a toss up between heat embossing and masking–both give awesome effects!

  8. Daphne Baker says:

My favorite stamping technique is 2nd generation stamping. It really makes your ink pads go so much further and there’s no worries of color clashing! I have made cards before with the mirror image technique but they’ve all been trees and water, except one which was penguins. . I prefer to use acetate as it’s easy to see where you’re stamping. As always Jennifer, thanks for the inspiration and a chance to win!

  9. I never gave that a thought if I have a favorite stamping technique.

I don’t know if I have a favorite stamping technique, but I like the trick with clear stamps, where you place additional clean stamps on the block, surrounding the stamp you are using, so that you get even pressure on the intended stamp and it doesn’t wobble.

  15. Oh deer! This is cute. I had tried some other mirror stamping and like your technique better so this would be a fav of mine for sure.
