I am always looking for new ways to use my dies creatively… to get new looks. Well today’s tip is one of the easiest… and that is mirror die cutting. Yes – you just glue the die cut down backwards onto your card. However, I share tips on how to smooth out the die cut first and give it a clean look. I also share other techniques… including how to create a brochure-fold card design. Be sure to watch the video for all of the info!
My first card features the oh-so-fun Avery Elle Rainbows Dies (SSS | AE | EH). The die cuts on the front are actually backwards. I also used my Taylored Expressiom Blending Brush and Altenew Sea Breeze Ink to create a soft sky and added a My Favorite Things Magical Unicorn Stamp Set (SSS | MFT ) sentiment to the cloud.
Before I added the colored die cut pieces, I sprayed them with Therm O Web Silver Glitter Dust. I love that sparkle!
And when you open the card, you see three panels. In the middle is a spot to write your personal message. On the right? The other side of the rainbow. This rainbow is how the die cut is originally intended… and I added a sentiment from the My Favorite Things Fairy Tale Friends Stamp Set (SSS | MFT | EH).
Here is what it looks like after adding my personal message…
My next example was such fun to make! It features the Avery Elle Pool Party Stamp Set (SSS | AE | EH) and Summer Scene Dies (SSS | AE | EH). The “it’s your day” is from the Concord & 9th Joyful Tiles Stamp Set (SSS | C9 | EH) and the sun is from the Lawn Fawn Out Of This World Stamp Set.
Here you can see how I created a mirror wave die cut – one in both directions. Love this look! I also added a large “enjoy” from the Concord & 9th Joyful Tiles Stamp Set (SSS | C9 | EH) . Such a fun surprise inside!
I can’t get over how cute these little girls are…
My last example features the Avery Elle Peek A Boo Car (SSS | AE | EH) and Peek A Boo Scary Pal Stamp Sets (SSS | AE | EH).
All of the speech bubbles were made with the Avery Elle Plus Frame Dies (SSS | AE | EH). The die in this set is much larger, but I show how to make the die cut smaller to better fit on this card. I also did reverse die cutting so that the bubbles could face different ways.
