Best Stamp Layering Methods With An Acrylic Block

Welcome! A few days ago I shared a video showing the most accurate way to use layering stamps with a MISTI stamping tool. Well today I am sharing the best stamp layering methods when using an acrylic block.

If you missed my video last week showing stamping layering with a MISTI, I would recommend checking it out – you can find it HERE. Today I skip the MISTI and show layering with an acrylic block. I do also use a stamp positioner. There are many on the market but my favorite is the Art Impressions Stamp Positioner. It works GREAT and you will be seeing me using it in future videos. If you don’t have one, you can get creative and make your own!

Be sure to watch my video to see today’s technique in action.

My first cards feature the gorgeous Sunny Studio Sunflower Fields Stamp Set (SSS | SUN | EH). This is a wonderful layering set and great for demonstrating this technique! I created the center frame with the Altenew Geometric Frames Dies (SSS | ALT | EH) and gold cardstock. (Loving that look!) And that fun background? That is the Studio Katia Grid Die (SSS | SK | EH).

Here are the ink colors I used for the sunflowers:

  • Flower: Altenew Lemon Burst, Warm Sunshine, Snapdragon, Caramel Toffee, Paper Bag, Rocky Shore
  • Leaves: Altenew Lime, Fresh Leaf, Evergreen

I used the Sunny Studio Sunflower Fields Stamp Set (SSS | SUN | EH) on this next card, too. Aren’t those bees so cute!? I also stamped “thankful” from the Sunny Studio Elegant Leaves Stamp Set (SSS | SUN | EH) over the Studio Katia Grid Die Cut (SSS | SK | EH) background.

Stamping over a background die cut is a great way to add a bit of texture to a card.

My next cards showcase the Sunny Studio Everything’s Rosy Stamp Set (SSS | SUN | EH). I did a partial inlay background with the Sunny Studio Retro Petals Die (SSS | SUN | EH)… and added a sentiment from the Altenew Pen Sketched Flowers Stamp Set (SSS | ALT | EH).

Here are the ink colors I used for the roses:

  • Flower: Altenew Pink Diamond Pinkalicious, Rubellite, Razzleberry, Hero Arts Raspberry Jam Ink
  • Leaves: Altenew Lime, Fresh Leaf, Evergreen

I like that you can take the center of the Sunny Studio Retro Petals Die (SSS | SUN | EH) out and use it alone. Here, I cut it from the front of my notecard. I then added another smaller notecard inside so I could have a place for my personal message.

This sentiment is from the My Favorite Things Well Hello Stamp Set (SSS | MFT | EH) and the gems are from the Pinkfresh Studios Essentials Jewels (SSS | PF | EH).

Background dies like the Sunny Studio Retro Petals Die (SSS | SUN | EH) are also great for making an impression. This easily can be done with a Spellbinders Embossing Mat and most die cut machines. After making the impression, I added a bit of pink ink on top with a Taylored Expression Blending Brush.

My last card features the Sunny Studio Slice of Summer Stamp Set (SSS | SUN | EH). I love the happy colors! I also used the new Sunny Studio Lots of Dots Embossing Folder (SSS | SUN | EH) on the background.

Here are the ink colors I used for the watermelon: Altenew Limeade, Lime, New Leaf, Coral Bliss, Heartbeat

  1. In using the L positioner, wouldn’t it matter where you place the stamp on the acrylic block? I don’t understand how putting the block in the corner of the L would work unless you had the same margin of the stamp on each layer.

  2. Loved your video! I’m new to stamping and enjoyed watching you make these beautiful cards and your detailed explanations of why and how to use the supplies.
    Thanks!
    Janet

  3. Another great video! I love my Tim Holtz stamp platform but it’s great to know other ways to do it as well!! I already planned to buy that awesome sunflower stamp set from Sunny Studios!!

  4. Again a great video Jennifer, I have a stamping tool but other tips are always welcome. Thank you so much for the time and effort to make these two video about layering stamps. Have a great week.

  5. This is so helpful – thanks Jennifer! I love that retro petals die and think it’s the next addition to my wishlist. Could make for a very fun shaker card!

  6. thanks for sharing these stamp postioner technique – I have one but have not yet used it!!! So easy to use when you are shown how – lol!!

  7. Great video. Love the background grid dies! The colors are great, too. So much fun to watch you…

  8. Thanks for sharing these very helpful tips! Not only do you make beautiful cards but you are one of the best at teaching and explaining–much appreciated!

  9. These were both great videos with lots of tips. I’m wondering how it would work if you had the Misti but we’re using rubber cling stamps. These are different because you can’t see through them? Would you have to use the L positioner or could they be used, somehow, in the Misti?

  10. Thank you for taking the time to lift the fog around these bits of equipment & techniques, when shown it suddenly makes so much sense. I like that you show techniques for different levels of card makers & our differing budgets, very much appreciated. Have a fabulous week x

  11. Thanks for sharing these lovely cards, Jennifer…special thanks for the video. Sometimes, I struggle with layering stamps so what you’ve shared here is so very helpful. Again, thanks.

  12. Beautiful cards. I especially like the partial inlay you did, and the ink blending on the impression you made with the Retro Petals die. Thanks so much for sharing these techniques for using this cool little tool!

  13. loved the cards and video, so many great tips on layered stamping. I will be doing it this way next time, I have a misti but I always seem to miss something on one of the stamps.

  14. I don’t know how you do it but keep those helpful hints coming! I learn so many tiny tweaks to techniques that I already use so they’re even more successful. Thank you so much for sharing what you do.

  15. Oh, my, a blast from the past with the stamp positioner. It’s the first “tool” I bought when I first began my venture into stamping, and with wooden stamps at the time. I used it for years and still do because I have lots of wooden stamps I can’t part with.

  16. Jennifer, you are just the BEST! I’ve just gotten some Altenew layered flower stamps (after watching your videos), you are an inspiration! Thanks so much!

  17. Great video! I do love my MISTI, but I can see this is a great alternative, especially for adding something after a card may be so close to finishing that a stamp wouldn’t fit within the Misti.

  18. Again and again you share such awesome tips and techniques! TFS always and keep ’em coming…I could watch your videos all day long! No wonder I don’t get anything done! LOL

  19. Jennifer,
These cards with the Sunny Studio layered rose are absolutely breath taking. Again, showing how easy it is to do the layering with the stamp positioner is great. Thanks again for all your great tips

  20. So many great techniques here! I especially love how you stamped “Thankful” across the diecut! Brilliant! Thankful for all you teach me!

  21. Hello Jennifer, Thanks for retraining me on the stamp positioner! I’ve had one for years. May I suggest, I noticed in your new crafting must haves – that when you were stamping phrases the L – shorter leg to lay the acrylic block against. When you use the longer blocks, invert the L and put the longer leg at the bottom so your longer acrylic block will have more to lay against and won’t run the risk of tilting off the edge. Thanks again for all you do for us!!
