Hello! Today I am sharing lots of techniques for creating rainbow cards. There is no better way to make someone smile than with a bit of color!

To brighten a dreary day, I decided to make as many rainbow cards as I could using the newest Altenew product release (SSS | ALT). Here are the rainbow techniques I shared in the video:

#1: EMBOSSED RESIST Rainbow

Using embossed resist with a background stamp, colorful ink, and water is a great way to quickly create a colorful card. Here, I white heat embossed the large Altenew Mega Succulent Stamp Set (SSS | ALT) on watercolor paper. I applied quick color with Zig Clean Color Real Brush Pens and then sprayed it generously with a water and Perfect Pearl mix. The embossing “resists” the color… the water mixes the color… and the Perfect Pearl adds shimmer. The sentiment is from the Altenew Dearest Friend Stamp Set (SSS | ALT).

This next card features the same technique, but with a sentiment from the Altenew Sincere Greetings Stamp Set (SSS | ALT). And by the way – this technique also works great with Distress Ink.

#2: Inked rainbow die cuts

Adding a rainbow effect to plain white die cuts is a great way to add a splash of color. For my cards, I used a large die along with die cut inlaying to create two cards. I first cut the Altenew Mandala Die (SSS | ALT) from white cardstock. While keeping the pieces in place, I inked with Distress Ink and misted lightly with a water and Perfect Pearl mix. Once it was dry, I took the pieces apart.

On one card, I inlaid the colored pieces into a white die cut. I left a few tiny areas open and added glitter. The sentiment is from the Altenew Bold Alphabet Dies (SSS | ALT) and Altenew Dearest Friend Stamp Set (SSS |ALT). (And I just noticed a few pieces are missing – gotta fix that!)

With the colorful negative piece of the Altenew Mandala Die (SSS | ALT), I created a second card…

#3: Colored rainbow die cuts

I also like to use markers to create colorful, rainbow die cuts. Here, I created a “fabulous” die cut covered with marker coloring… and lots of Tonic Crystal Glaze. Behind the rainbow die cut, I added an Altenew Hope Stamp Set (SSS | ALT) flower and an Altenew Pegboard Canvas Cover Die (SSS | ALT) background.

Here is another card showing die cuts colored with a rainbow of colors with markers. Instead of die cutting all the pieces of the Altenew Neighborhood Home Die Set (SSS | ALT) with multiple colors of cardstock, I simply and quickly cut with white cardstock and added my own color. I used the Altenew Dotted Scales Debossing Die (SSS | ALT) to create the background and added a sentiment from the Altenew Dearest Friend Stamp Set (SSS | ALT). (The inside of the card says “but I will always be there for you.”)

#4: RAINBOW COLORING

For a whimsical look, try coloring any images with a rainbow of colors. Here, I colored a flower cluster from the Altenew Dearest Friend Stamp Set (SSS | ALT) with many colors and added it to a background cut with the Altenew Cross Stitch Canvas Die (SSS | ALT). The sentiment is from the Altenew Cross Stitch Flower Stamp Set (SSS | ALT).

#5: RAINBOW STITCHING

I am 100% addicted to cross stitching on cards. (For a how-to video on stitching, head HERE.) So I was thrilled to get the Altenew Pegboard Canvas Cover Die (SSS | ALT)! I used cross stitching and a rainbow of colors to fill the background.

The simple sentiment features a “hugs” die cut and an Altenew Cross Stitch Flower Stamp Set (SSS | ALT) greeting.

#6: RAINBOW STAMPING

Another way to create a colorful card is to stamp with a rainbow of colors. For my card, I use pastel rainbow colors to stamp the Altenew Cross Stitch Flower Stamp Set (SSS | ALT) images over the pierced holes created with the Altenew Cross Stitch Flower Dies (SSS | ALT). The greeting is from the Altenew Dearest Friend Stamp Set (SSS | ALT).

#7: RAINBOW EMBOSSING

I really like the look of colored heat embossing but most of us don’t have embossing powders in a rainbow of colors. Therefore, I like to cheat. 🙂 For my card, I first used the Altenew Cross Stitch Flower Dies (SSS | ALT) to pierce the holes for the “hello!” and then stamped with the Altenew Cross Stitch Flower Stamp Set (SSS | ALT) ” hello” on top with a rainbow of Altenew Inks. Finally, I stamped again on top of the colors with Versmark ink and clear heat embossed. Works great!

#8: RAINBOW No-Line Coloring

My last card shows using no-line coloring for a rainbow flower. I first stamped the Altenew Wildflower Garden Stamp Set (SSS | ALT) with second generations of Limestone Altenew Ink. I then colored over the light ink with a rainbow of colors.

The emboss resist Mega Succulent cards are just gorgeous. The colours are so rich and vibrant. Love!! In terms of my favourites from the release – I can’t pick just one. I love cover dies and all of Altenew’s latest ones look awesome! From those my favourites are the Dotted Scales Debossing cover plate and the Doodled Dots cover die. I also love the Mandala dies. And in terms of all the gorgeous new floral stamp sets I think I have to say it’s the Wildflowers Garden stamp set and the Mega Succulent stamp set that are my favourites, although they’re just barely beating the Sweet Rose Bouquet and the Hope stamp and die sets. Altenew really just does create amazing floral stamps!!!

  6. I love rainbows, stamping, and card making, so this video was truly awesome! Creating a wish list of all those wonderful new stamp sets and dies. Thank you for all your beautiful ideas.

  7. So many gorgeous rainbow cards! My favorites are the first set with the zigs and then spraying with water and perfect pearls and the stitching., but really loving them all!

  8. Well, I hope working on your rainbow cards brought you as much joy as you are giving to all of us that are seeing this post!!! It was delightful to see all the different ways that you were able to use the dies and stamps and it was so inspiring to see the completed cards. It’s always amazing to see how you “interpret” the blank slate of the products into such beautiful works of he*art*.

I think my favorites are the two background dies – cross-stitch and Pegboard – because they are so versatile.

Thanks for brightening my Saturday morning!

  9. Oh my gosh, I need it all. You are not good for my bank account…. I had to purchase several things after one of your other videos. I am loving the Mandala die, the pegboard die, the sewing stamp/die sets, and the large rose stamp. Ugh. Maybe I’ll get another job….

  10. Holy smokes, you don’t do anything halfway, do you? 🙂 Thanks for the tons of ideas! I like the succulent stamp and the Hope set.

  11. Lots of great products and techniques. My favorite on this release is the Peg Board and Cross Stitch Background die. I love to cross-stitch too! I should really start setting up an ‘On-The-Go’ craft kit. I prefer coloring during times that I have to wait vs. browsing my phone. Just got to plan ahead…

  12. My favorite things in this release are the two script word dies. They are gorgeous and yet simple, and I have pearlescent paper I’d love to use them on!

  13. As always, Jennifer, your cards are just awesome, and unique! Love all the techniques you have showcased in this video. I am so excited about this Altenew release—-it is my fave by far and I have already ordered several of the dies and stamp sets. Now I can’t wait to use them! Thanks for all your ongoing inspiration!

  14. I would love to try out the Altenew CROSS STITCH CANVAS Die . What fun to cross stitch on a card. With this you can easily cross stitch you own design.

  15. So many fabulous creations, this release is amazing! I love the different ways you used the Mandela and the succulent, the cross stitch stamps and the cross stitch canvas die. The rainbows with the Dearest Friend stamp set and Wildflower set. Thank you so much for all the inspiration.

  16. I needed some cheering up and your brightly coloured cards have done the trick! Thank you! Great ideas super video and gorgeous Altenew release. I really like the wildflowers..

  17. My favorite Altenew product is the Hope flower set. I love dimensional stamping because I have a difficult time coloring. Also love the impact the clear glaze gives to your cards. Thank you, once again, for sharing part of your heart and soul with us by showcasing your fabulous cards.

  18. I don’t think I can ever choose just one favorite of any of your cards!! I love the very last flower and of course the cross stitch one. I always love your cross stitch cards and your technique of blending the colors of the rainbow is always perfect. Thank you for sharing your talent with us!

  19. Oh, tell you which is my favorite, that is so hard.. I should just list them all. I wish I could get them all. To chose just one though, I’d take the succulent.

  20. Your rainbows add such beauty to all of these stamps. I can’t wait to try this technique out. Love the succulent stamp.

  21. As always, you have created some amazing cards. I really love the wildflowers, thanks for sharing your talent with us.

  22. As always, you have created AMAZING cards using a variety of techniques that astound me. But what I love most about your cards today are the words in this Altenew release. “Sending You Feel Better Hugs” and “I May Not Be There…” are just a couple of sentiments that resonated with me as I looked at your cards. Cards are truly hugs sent in the mail and these cards perfectly reflect that idea.

  23. As always, you blow my mind with so many ideas. Thanks always for your generous ideas. Love the rainbow cards, it really brings a smile to anyone who sees it.

  24. Love the variations in style for using colour. But especially love the Cross Stitch Canvas Die as, being a cross-stitcher from way back, would love to revive my interest with this style on cards, and to feel ‘with it’ again!!!!

  25. I loved all the products you showed, Jennifer, picking one is tough!! I guess if I HAD to pick one it would be the Dearest Friend set – I love all the sentiments and flowers on that one. Thanks for the chance to win!

  26. Sooooooooo enjoyed this video and all the making techniques you showed us, so much fun. And anything that you can bring rainbow colours in is perfectly fine with me ! I can’t choose a single favourite out of your cards as they all look stunning so I will have to try, with an OK from you, to make my own versions to send out. This new release is so much fun and currently my favourites are the dotted scales die and the sweet rose bouquet stamp set. Thank you for offering a winning change.
