Hello! Today I am sharing a few fun ways to add dimensional details to your products with Nuvo Drops.

My video shares simple ways to use Tonic Nuvo Drops to add dimensional details to your cards. However, you could use a variety of products for this, including Enamel Accents, Liquid Pearls, Stickles, etc. I show a close look at the different varieties of Nuvo Drops, along with many ways to use them.

My first card showcases two adorable flamingos from the Ink Blot Shop Flopsy Birds Stamp Set. I really like the cuteness and simplicity of these images. The simplicity allows you to change up the images or add your own details… which I did! I colored the flamingos with Copic Makers and added lines/dimension for wings using clear-but-tinted-pink Tonic Rose Water Nuvo Jewel Drops. I used Tonic Red Berry Gloss Nuvo Crystal Drops to add a puff red heart in the center of the stamped Ink Blot Shop Tiny Bubble.

I created the window with my Memory Box Pinpoint Single Frame Die. This makes little dots around the opening and I used them as a guide for adding tiny Tonic Gloss White Nuvo Crystal Drops. What a fun finishing touch! The sentiment on the front and inside is from the Ink Blot Shop Kindness and Thanks Stamp Set. This set is great for building kindness messages.

Whenever I add a critter image to my card, I always finish the card by adding a bit of Tonic Ebony Black Nuvo Drops to the eye. This helps to make it stand out. If the eyes are super tiny, I used a pin to add the drops. And for this lady bird, I also added eye lashes!

The clear and glittery Nuvo White Blizzard Glitter Drops are also great for adding details to any images. Doesn’t it look great on that heart? The sentiment banner and sentiment are both from the Ink Blot Shop Kindness and Thanks Stamp Set and I used the Memory Box Pinpoint Circle Frame Die to create the frame.

For my last card, I used the Ink Blot Shop Flopsy Birds Stamp Set to create a happy scene. I used glossy Nuvo Drops to add details to the birds… and a large drop to create balloons. The sentiment is from the Ink Blot Shop Kindness and Thanks Stamp Set.

Those balloons are just perfect!!! I like that it is super easy to make perfectly round drops with the Tonic Nuvo Drops.

I have been enjoying the Tonic Nuvo Drops for months now. (I like to make sure I have success with a product before recommending.) They are fun to use!

A few people have asked about cracking with the Nuvo products. I have never had this happen to me. I am guessing some of it has to do with climate? So I emailed Tonic and an engineer there gave me this helpful feedback:

From customer feedback and social media we had been made aware that some of the Jewel Drops that were initially supplied were cracking in certain circumstances – we made adjustments to the product formulation to rectify this – we have not received complaints about the Crystal Drops showing similar issues.
The adjustment made was to reduce the shrinkage of the product as it went through the drying process – this effectively reduced the potential of the drops to crack – we implemented this change at the end of 2016.
Due to the formulation of Jewel Drops it is best to ensure that the drop made is fully dry before flexing the product – the product goes through 2 stages
Stage 1 – feels dry to the touch but is still brittle if flexed, and
Stage 2 – is fully dried and can be flexed without cracking – we suggest that this is 48 hours just to be ultra safe (24 hours for Crystal Drops)
We do however recommend the following on all drops:
1 – To keep the size of the drops to a maximum of 1/2 inch diameter. (Some fine cracking may occur if they are significantly larger than this)
2 – While drying keep the drops away from being in the direct flow of air conditioning units – this dries the drops too quickly and can lead to fine cracking. 3 – Dry the drops in a normal ambient room temperature. 18-24oC
4 -Ensure the drops are fully dry before flexing the card.
I hope the above helps.

  1. Thank you for the video! I love Nuvo drops, I have not had any problems with them! When drawing with my granddaughter, who is 3, distinguishes boys from girls by adding eyelashes to the girls lol When we are drawing, she always says “Gramma, that’s a girl, she needs eyelashes!” 🙂

  2. You come up with such fun combinations! I think I need those stamps and dies! Is it too early to start my Christmas list?

  3. Thank you for the great examples. I downloaded the swatch chart for the Nuvo drops and for some reason page 2 and 3 are the same. Did I do something wrong or is the merged file incorrect? If you have a link to the correct file I would appreciate it. Thank you

  4. I like using sequins on my cards. It adds that special little blin, but not all sequins are created equal!

  5. Thanks so much for the info on the drops and some examples of how to use them…yet to give them a go 🙂

  6. Thanks so much for the swatches! Is there a page missing or do I they retire? I have a lot more than the colors that you listed on the swatch pages. Oh….looks like there is a duplicate page! Thanks so much for all your inspiration!!

  7. I have many bottles of Nuvo drops. Loved them at first, but now after being in my craft room for months they have become too thick to squeeze out of the bottles . Not sure how to thin them out to the proper consistency for easy application. If you could give me a solution to the thick drops I will be able to enjoy using them again. I thought you would be the perfect person to ask for advice. Thanks so much in advance. Mary

  8. Learning so much from all your videos, have discovered more fun ways to use my current supplies and pi k new products to purchase.
