Video: Embossing Paste + Powder… and Hero Arts / BasicGrey Blog Hop

Hello! I am back (again – are you sick of me yet? LOL) with another video. This one shows using embossing paste and embossing powders together, along with other tips and a special guest. This card is also part of the Hero Arts / BasicGrey Grand Bazaar Blog Hop with giveaways and more. (Scroll down for more info.)

I remember the first time I saw heat embossing. I was in awe and in love… especially with metallic heat embossing. Today’s card? It is packed full of it!

First, I used the new Hero Arts / BasicGrey Leaf and Flourish Stencil with white embossing paste on white cardstock. Before allowing the paste to dry, I added the subtle-yet-oh-so-cool WOW Silver Pearl Embossing Powder. Fifteen minutes later (once the paste has dried a bit), I heat set the powder and the resulting raised pearly shine is perfection!

I also used Copper Pearl, Metallic Gold, Olive and Liquid Platinum powders to emboss various Hero Arts / BasicGrey Small Things and You Make Me Smile images on vellum. I love how it looks like the images are floating over the stenciled background. To finish the card off, I created silver pearl accents by coloring plain pearls with my T5 Copic Marker. On the edge of the card, I added a BasicGrey patterned paper strip and a thin strip of cardstock covered with embossing powder. This card has lots of metallic shine in real life…

BLOG HOP

This post is part of the Hero Arts / BasicGrey Grand Baazar Blog Hop. Lots of ideas from lots of artists! All the stamps, stencils and papers I used today are from this new collection.

—–> The next stop on the hop is the blog of one of my favorite cardmakers – Kelly Rasmussen. (If you happen to find a link that doesn’t work, you can hop back to the Hero Arts Blog for a list of direct links to all the blogs in today’s hop.)

GIVEAWAYS AND SALE

Today there are TWO big giveaways! Hero Arts and BasicGrey will be giving away two Grand Bazaar prize packs — including paper, embellishments, clear and cling stamps, and stencils. The two winners will be randomly selected from all comments received on the participating designers’ blogs. Comments must be received by 11:59pm PST on 6/11/14. The more comments you leave along the hop, the better your odds of winning!

To celebrate this hop even more, Hero Arts will be offering 10% off all the stamps and stencils in the Grand Bazaar Collection in the Hero Arts Online Store. (While there, you can also get great deals on 6×6 BasicGrey paper pads!)

  1. OMY Goodness! This is one of your prettiest cards ever – and I love all of your cards! I feel the same way about heat embossing with metallics. It’s like magic, eh?

  2. Thanks for the video instruction on the card. I will be giving it a try with some gesso and see what happens. Your daughter is adorable and will look forward to some of her creations in the future.

  3. such an amazing process-I love seeing other people’s talent and applications thanks for sharing

  4. What a beautiful card. Looks easy to make. Thank you for sharing. I like the raised effect of the paste on the card and the embossing powder completed the look. 🙂

  5. Beautiful card Jennifer!! I’ve tried the embossing powder with iridescent sparkle embossing powder and it is so very lovely!! I will need to try with some of my others!! I laughed a lot when Lila came to visit! She’s a cutie!! Enjoy seeing another crafter grow up. By the way, my 7 yo granddaughter loves to watch your videos. When her Mom sits down to watch, she sits in the chair with her and they watch your videos together!

  6. Jennifer I love watching all your videos, after I watch I find myself buying more things, I have never tried distress inks. I must try them soon.

  7. I just got done making this card and it turned out so FABULOUS!!!! I wish I could insert a picture of it here…I am so excited! Can you tell I am new to card making?!

  8. I have just discovered Jennifer’s videos. Just love her and the products she uses!! I have already ordered several things. Would love to win some~~~~

  9. Would it work to add Perfect Pearl powder to the embossing paste??? I am obviously a few years off schedule, but I love this look. I might try it. Still working on my layered strips. I did one with the Merry Christmas die-cut inlay, but I nearly lost my mind trying to get the layered piece out. The rest of the cards have a variety of other greetings!!! I started out to do some for the Caring Hearts drive, then thought I would do 15 for my Bible study ladies that are all sort of matching but each unique! I got my strip of pieces cut crooked last night, so one of them is actually a Christmas tree!
