Video: DIY Colored Embossing Paste

Hello! Today’s video shows several fun techniques including DIY colored embossing paste, coloring with gamsol and much more. I also use a new stamp set that has quickly become a favorite!

(Supplies are linked in the thumbnails at the end of this post.)

Coloring your own embossing paste is very easy to do. In this video I show two of my favorite ways – with reinkers and with inks. I used the colored paste with the popular Simon Says Stamp Falling Stars stencil and also added my favorite sparkle embossing powder to the paste before it dried.

In the video I also showed how I used Gamsol for coloring these *adorable* new bunnies from Mama Elephant. (I will be using this cute set a lot!) I used Gamsol and colored pencils for years and have recently fallen back in love with them. I will do more videos in the future. But I will say – it is a less expensive option when compared to Copic Markers… and also easier to use.

The greetings on this card are also from Mama Elephant. If you are looking for a good sentiment stamp set, this is a great option. Many of the messages are great for the insides of cards, too.

I also show in this video the containers and spoons I use for embossing powder. Many people had asked about them. This system is working really well for me!

How about some links to more inspiration?

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. I just purchased those bunnies a couple days ago, can’t wait for them to arrive. Also I’m glad you’re working with gamsol, I can’t seem to get the hang of the copics! Gamsol for life!! πŸ™‚

  2. Hi, wow love this card, so simplistic but really effective – it just dazzles – would make a great Easter Card too……I had not heard of embossing paste before or Gamsol – I will now go and hunt out the other Gamsol videos…

I haven’t used my Gamsol in a while…it’s time to take my Primsa Color colored pencils out and play! Thanks for the inspiration…..Have a wonderful day! πŸ™‚

  4. I have fallen in love with these adorable bunnies too. I’m eager to pull out my colored pencils again and tint my embossing paste. I wish I didn’t have to work. πŸ™‚

  5. I love your sweet card! Both of these new ME sets are on their way to my house. Yay! Thanks for sharing the tips with gamsol. That’s a new product to me, and looks so much easier than the Copics that I do not do too well with. I took the Stenciled Online Card Class and I’m hooked on stencils now. Thanks for all your inspiration!

  6. I absolutely loved this video. Beautiful card, love the technique and most of all thank you for showing me another way to colour stamps. I’m not good with copics at all. You made my day!

  7. Jennifer, I don’t know how to thank you enough for introducing me to Gamsol. Getting a large enough range of copics for coloring is a huge investment & I am concerned that they will dry up, befor I get full use out of them; as I don’t get to craft that often. Some of my ink pads already have πŸ™ This seems a much better fit for me. Looking forward to seeing more Gamsol videos. Theresa x

  8. I have been LOVING all yor videos as always. I don’t comment much (and I should) because I want to sincerely thank you for all the inspiration you share. I know it takes a lot of your time but I have learned SO MANY tips and tricks from you through the years so a HUGE thank you for all the inspiration!!

  9. I love the stenciling technique! Now I have to get the embossing paste! lol I can’t wait to try the paste with the stencil! Thanks again for sharing your gift with us!

  10. You have just solved my problem, I am a digital artist but am really bad at using alcohol markers, very embarrassing (wink wink)…you have given me so many ideas to make the pencils work for me, , please know you are appreciated!!!! Beautiful card , now all I have to do is start using my stencils! xxx

  11. This video is full of great tips. I learned so much. Love how you did the banner and the bunnies are so cute. Thanks for sharing.

  12. Hi Jennifer, I am so pleased to see you using your Prismacolour pencils and gamsol (we use Zest here in the UK), it makes such a lovely change from markers! I also wanted to say thank you, I have been watching your videos for about a year now, but have been unable to leave comments on YouTube. Thank you so much for all your wonderful inspiration both here and in the Stenciled and other online classes. Anne x

  13. ooooh, I love this embossing paste; every time you feature it, the webstores sell out!!! And, thanks for reminding us about Gamsol, cause I have a zillion prismacolor pencils sitting around unused. You say in the vid that you can used baby oil as a subsitute??? wouldn’t that leave an oily stain on the cardstock?

Oh, by the way, I think it is cool the way you match your nail color to the cardstock, LOL

  14. Jennifer –

ADORABLE! I love this card. Thank you as always for the fabulous video. It really helps to see how you do things.

  15. Your OLD gamsol video is one of the first stamping videos i ever watched and is what got me into using gamsol with colored pencils! πŸ™‚

  16. I use my Gamsol pen with the Inktense water-colour pencils I bought on your recommendation. They work really well and allow great shading without saturating the paper. Your bunny card is sweet!

  17. Hi Jennifer, what great videos you do I really enjoy watching them.Could you please tell where you get the paper pencils from if that’s what there called.I’ve never heard of them before, perhaps we don’t sell them in the UK or do you make them yourself. Many thanks Kath from Nottingham England

  18. What a cute card!! I love the idea of the ink stars and the embossing paste stars!! Thanks for the ideas of how to make our cards more interesting!

  19. I love your card and all of your videos! You are such a great teacher and have given me lots of ideas and inspiration. Looking forward to the new SSS release. πŸ™‚

  20. Well gosh darn it those bunnies are cute! Thanks for the colored pencil technique-I’m also a bit Copic illiterate, and I’ve gone back to using my colored pencils. Does Gamsil work with any kind of colored pencil? (Perhaps you could explain in a future video?)

  21. Just love this! Thanks for sharing other coloring/blending techniques. As much as I love how the markers look, I just can’t afford that kind of investment. I tend to use my colored pencils or my distress pens more than anything else and I have never seen gamsol before!
