I am always looking for ways to make my cards unique… and fold-out cards are fun! Be sure to watch the video to catch the details.

To create this vertical fold-out card, I started with a piece of 4 1/4″ x 11″ cardstock. (I said 4 1/2″ in my video – sorry.) I then folded this in half to create a top-folding card that is 5 1/2″ x 4 1/4″. I then folded the front of the card at the halfway point – 2 3/4″. That’s it!

I used the Lawn Fawn Ocean Wave Border Die Set to create a wave at the top of several pieces of vellum and pool cardstock pieces. I adhered them together and added a white heat embossed greeting from the Essentials By Ellen Mermaidโ€™s Tail Stamp Set. I then added the whole piece to the front of the folded card.

I created the mermaid tail by white heat embossing the Essentials By Ellen Mermaidโ€™s Tail image and adding Distress Oxide Inks on top. For shine, I sprayed it with a mix of Ranger Perfect Pearl Perfect Pearls and water. After letting it dry and cutting it out, I tucked the mermaid into some of the waves. I created three cards… each with a different fun sentiment. And note the fun sentiment on the inside, too! (“If you need me, call me on my shell phone.”)

The little water splatters are from the Essentials by Ellen Otter Ware Stamp Set and the gems are from Lucy’s Cards.

Since I had a few scallopy-border scraps from these cards, I decide to put them to use for a quick card featuring the Essentials By Ellen Crafty Lady and Crafty Ladies Say Stamp Sets. These sets are full of crafty images and messages. You must check them out! Can’t wait to make more of these for crafty friends.

  17. I’d love to be a mermaid but swimming isn’t my thing. However, I have this weird thing that happens when I swim. I am child sized and have been since, well, I was a child! LOL I’ve been the same size since 6th grade. Anyway, I took swimming classes at our local Y and the water in the low end was up to my chin! I learned to swim but I can’t seem to stay on top of the water, only under water and I have to protect my ears because I get swimmers ear. Do mermaids get swimmers ear? Who knows? That could make me the mermaid in your card. I often wondered how they stayed underwater for so long. I love them though and I love your colorful mermaid cards. You always seem to take the stamp and run with it and do something cute and creative. That would be Jen!
That crafty lady? She looks just like you! LOL Actually she looks like me because I am that size! LOL I have to check out those crafty sayings because there are a few that I want.
I have a favor to ask of you and I don’t know if I mentioned it before. My mom is going to be 90 this July 29th. How many people do you know who are 90? Since this will be the first birthday without my dad since he died, I’d like it to be special. Do you think you could get you and the people on here to send her a card to make her 90th even that more special? It would mean a lot to me and I know it would mean a lot to my mom too. I will send my addy to you so you can pass it on to anyone who wants to send her a card. Thanks in advance for anything that you do.
