Video: Metal Leafing

Recently, a few folks have emailed me suggesting I use an “older product” and bring it back to life. So today I dug out my old metal leafing and teamed it up with some new My Favorite Things stamps and created a couple simple cards.

(Supplies are linked in the thumbnails at the end of this post.)

The look of metal leafing is so unique… check this out…

Warning: Metal leafing can but addictive! Another warning: Metal leafing can be frustrating. However, if you follow the tips in the video, you can avoid the frustrations! I used the Variegated Metal Leafing on these cards, but am looking forward to breaking out my silver flakes in the future. These work really well with the Ranger Sticky Embossing Powder.

I teamed up the new My Favorite Things Fabulous Sayings stamp set (full of great mix and match greetings in great fonts) with the flowers from the Forget Me Not set. (These are both new MFT products. You can find more of their many new products on MFT’s site, Simon Says Stamp or Ellen Hutson.) These images worked well with the leafing.

I really like the look of leafing on super dark or super light cardstocks. The navy is fun! For the stripes on the side, I used the My Favorite Things Striped Backgrounds stamp set.

Thanks so much for stopping by. See you soon!

  1. Jennifer these are so beautiful. I love all the different techniques you are sharing with all of us. You’re such a creative person I’m so grateful to be able to see your video’s.
Thank you for being a great teacher.

  2. Beautiful. I’ve heard of gold leafing but didn’t know it came in variegated. Old to you but new to me so thanks for digging in your stash.

  3. I’ve had some of this for years, too, but never thought to use a sticky embossing powder for it. I always had to buy some special adhesive. I’m looking forward to more videos using what a lot of us already have stashed away so we don’t have to go out and buy the latest and greatest products to get a lovely result.

  4. Wow! Wow! Wow! Awesome card & video. I loved your tip on the cable hooks so much I dashed out to the stores to buy some straight away & have only just remembered (several days later) to leave a comment for a chance to win 😉
My favorite release items are all background stamps. I just can’t get enough of them. They are herbs n honey astronomy, spice flower symbol & the reverse constellation design block.

  5. Great card! I LUV metal leafing and have used it on a variety of surfaces from paper to metal to wood. Thank you for sharing. =^..^=

  6. Please keep posting some “old” stuff mixed with new. That’s fun! It’s really great to dig out the old stuff and remember the beginning of it all.
