Kelly Purkey Kit Blog Hop + 5 Cards + Giveaway
Today I am joining some great gals for a blog hop for Kelly Purkey and we will all be showing ideas using her August/September Project Kit. It is a good one! LOTS of pieces in it – enough to make a ton of cards. Today? I have five for you!
5 Ideas from 1 Kit
This kit is jam packed with fun product. So I decided to show you all 5 ideas for using this 1 kit. (All supplies will be listed at the end of this post.)
(By the way, all the cards I made here will end up going to my step-daughter who starts her first day of college in a few days. Crazy, huh? Crazy how fast time flies and crazy how proud I am of her.)
Idea #1: Die Cut & Alter Wood Paper
Wood + color + shimmer + flair + inlay? That equals a card that shines…
This one combines a few tricks I have been loving lately. First, I used the SSS sun die to cut from one of the kit’s 3″x4″ wood pieces. The die fits perfectly! I then added color to the wood with my YR15 Copic Marker (trick #1) and a bit of shimmer to catch the eye with my Wink of Stella pen (trick #2). I cut the same sun from yellow cardstock and adhered the negative pieces into the wood sun piece – creating a fun wood inlay look (trick #3). These little tricks add up to make a big difference on this simple card. (That fun “get your shine one” flair is from the kit, too.)
Oh, and aren’t sequins from the kit fun with an off-center gem on top?
Idea #2: Stamp on Patterned Paper
I adore 6×6 patterned papers… especially the pad in this kit. However, I am a stamper and feel a need to stamp on everything. So why not combine the two?
I stamped a greeting from the kit stamp set with a soft grey ink along the striped patterned paper here and what a difference it makes. Simple. Fun.
Idea #3: Transform Sticker Into Embellishment
I will admit – I don’t use a lot of stickers because I really prefer dimension. However, you can easily turn a sticker in a 3-d embellishment with one simple tool…
That cute little sentiment is a sticker from the kit. However, I removed the stickiness from the back of it quickly and easily by brushing my Embossing Powder Tool on it. The powder sticks to the back so you can instead add it with pop dots. Super quick and easy. (Oh, and I did this trick with the “lucky” piece on the card above.)
And – yes. More Wink of Stella shimmer on the die cut heart and wood paper die cut rays…
Idea #4: Repeated Stamping
Have a stamped image you love? Just stamp it repeatedly to create a background.
This fun greeting from the stamp set in this kit is perfect for a puzzle-like background. I stamped one in bold black and popped it up for an eye-catcher. Oh, and of course I added die cut hearts with Wink of Stella shimmer. (Again. Addition.)
Idea #5: Embellish an Embellishment
I just love that cute little camera paper clip from the kit. However, after I put this card together, I felt it needed a little something extra. So what did I do? I embellished my embellishment…
First I used a few touches of Glossy Accents to add the paper clip camera embellishment to white cardstock. After I cut around the edge, I filled the center of the heart with Glossy Accents and Festive Berries Distress Glitter. (Distress Glitter is perfect for fun texture but not as shiny as regular glitter. I love this – less ostentatious.) I also made my embossed greeting strip to look like it is coming out of the camera. And there you have it – an embellished embellishment. 🙂
By the way, that die cut heart is covered with silver washi tape. Yes – I can hear my crafty friends gasping as I have only used washi tape once before!
One more thing: That fun triangle paper looks stamped, eh? Nope! It was one of the fun 3″x4″ cards included in the kit. Perfect size for a card!
So there you have it – 5 fun ways to use the goodies found in one awesome kit. 🙂
