5 Ways: DIY Foam Stamps

Hello! Today I am sharing 5 ways to use DIY stamps made with craft foam and dies. It always amazes me how well craft foam stamps!

I enjoy die cutting as much as a do stamping. So anytime I can use my dies to make stamps, I am happy. I found that craft foam (THIS is the one I used and like) die cuts beautifully, and stamps beautifully. Here are five techniques using DIY stamps…

(1.) SHADOW LAYERING

One fun way to use DIY craft foam stamps is for layering. I especially like this for background dies.

Here, I used the Hero Arts Leaves & Vines Die (SSS | HA) to create a craft foam stamp for my background. I then die cut the same die from cardstock and offset the two a bit. This gives a shadow look. I also used the new Hero Arts Thanks a Bunch Monkeys Stamp Set (SSS | HA).

By the way, I used the fun Hero Arts Jungle Background Stamp (SSS | HA) to stamp the flap of my matching envelope.

Here is a variation… where I rotated the die cut and added it on top of the stamping.

(2.) REVERSE IMAGES

By creating a craft foam stamp, you can stamp with both sides. This means you can have a reverse image! There are many fun techniques you can do with mirror or reverse stamping, but I went for a subtle, layered look.

For my card, I die cut the Hero Arts Jungle Frame Die (SSS | HA) from craft foam and green cardstock. I stamped with the back of the craft foam die cut… then adhered the cardstock die cut on top. The sentiment is from the Hero Arts Huge Thanks Stamp Set (SSS | HA) and the elephant is from the Hero Arts My Monthly Hero June Kit. (More on that below.)

(3.) CREATE NEW SHAPES

After die cutting from craft foam, you can easily cut the foam to create new shapes.

For my example, I again used the Hero Arts Leaves & Vines Die (SSS | HA) to die cut from craft foam. I then trimmed three different individual leaf shapes from the background to use as smaller stamps. I added a simple sentiment from the Hero Arts Tiger Wisdom Stamp Set (SSS | HA) and a flamingo from the Hero Arts My Monthly Hero June Kit.

I am always impressed how well craft foam stamps. And it is great for blending ink colors, too.

(4.) COORDINATING LAYERS

You can create stamps from craft foam and coordinating dies for a layered look. This is fun for backgrounds!

Here, I used the coordinating dies for the Hero Arts Tropical Flowers Stamp Set (SSS | HA) to create stamps from craft foam. I stamped them with a light ink onto cardstock… and then stamped the actual stamps on top. I love this look for a fun background!

For my first card with this technique, I used green inks and added images from the oh-so-fun Hero Arts Hello Toucan Stamp Set (SSS | HA).

Such a clever sentiment!

For my second card, I stamped with the craft foam shapes with green ink on green cardstock. I then gold embossed the actual Hero Arts Tropical Flowers (SSS | HA) stamp images on top. I also added a leaf that I cut from a Hero Arts Leaves & Vines (SSS | HA) die cut and covered with gold embossing powder.

(5.) MATCHING BACKGROUNDS

Another fun technique is to create craft foam stamps from coordinating dies… and then using these stamps to create a background that matches the focal image.

This card features images from the Hero Arts Layering Palm Tree Stamp Set (SSS | HA). I stamped the coordinating craft foam stamp a few times to create a subtle background that matches the main palm tree. The sentiment is from the Hero Arts Thanks a Bunch Monkeys Stamp Set (SSS | HA).

These are just a few of the many ways you can so use craft foam stamps. I hope you give it a try!
