Welcome back! Yesterday I shared a video about foil and die cutting. Today is all about foil and stamping!

Adding foil to a card is a great way to grab attention. And to use our stamps with foil? Even better! There is really no way to achieve a perfectly smooth foil stamped image… but today’s technique is close to perfect when you use outline or thin-lined images. Be sure to watch the video to see how easy it is, too!

My first card features the Simon Says Stamp Leafy Frames Stamp Set. I started by clear heat embossing the wreath on Hero Arts Sand Cardstock. I then added a piece of Therm O Web Gina K Glimmering Gold Deco Foil on top and ran it through my laminator. (Check the video for my tips on this!) This creates a fun, shiny, foiled outline image. I colored in the flowers with colored pencils and added a white heat embossed circle sentiment to the center.

Here is another card with all the same products, but on white cardstock. This coloring was done with Copic Markers. The shine you get with foil is much more impressive than embossing powder! So hard to capture in photos.

… and one last one with this design. This time I used Therm O Web Gina K Sparkling Silver Deco Foil on Hero Arts Paradise Cardstock… and added “coloring” with a VersaMarker Pen.

As I mentioned, any thin-lined image works for this foiling technique. This includes the Simon Says Stamp Gerber Daisy Background Stamp which I used on my next few cards. The flower and sentiment are from the Simon Says Stamp Daisy Bouquet and Leafy Frames Stamp Sets.

I used the left over foiled piece on this next card, along with a sentiment from the Simon Says Stamp Daisy Bouquet Stamp Set. Simple and quick!

For a subtle foiled look, try Therm O Web Gina K Glimmering Gold Deco Foil on white cardstock. This “hello” is from the Simon Says Stamp Oh Hello There Die.

My favorite foil is the Therm O Web Rainbow Shattered Deco Foil. It looks amazing on Hero Arts Pitch Black Cardstock! Wow. I kept this card simple… only adding a Simon Says Stamp Dot Scallop Border die cut piece with a Simon Says Stamp Daisy Bouquet sentiment.

My last example shows Therm O Web Silver Deco Foil on Simon Says Stamp Fog Cardstock. I added a simple sentiment panel from the Simon Says Stamp CZ Design Parental Stamp Set.

I hope you try foil stamping. It may take a little practice, but the results are worth it!

The video is fabulous and I will definitely be doing some foiling very soon. All your cards here are just sublime. I’m so pleased I do not have to pick a favourite of your cards here as I don’t think I could. Thankyou Jennifer for sharing your talent and hard work. Xx

  11. Your cards are gorgeous. I love the foiling. I don’t have a laminator, but I think I’ll try this look with gold heat embossing. I love this Simon release — the Gerbera Daily background is stunning.

  12. I think I may need to borrow my dad’s laminator & give this a try! I love the rainbow foil on black! Thanks for the great ideas.

  13. You know I have not always been a fan of foiling but I have to say this seems rather easy and I don’t even have to buy anything but the foil (one of the reasons I’ve not been a fan)…so, now you’re making me re-think that. Very nice! PatriciaD

  14. I really like the foil accents as opposed to embossing you are spot on about the difference. Going to have to get me a laminator. And I need a stack of the Simon Fog cardstock-it’s so peaceful!

  15. Love all the cards, can’t wait to get my kit to play. I have new things for my wish list now also.

  16. TIP for foiling: After running your piece through the laminator, remove from parchment. Before you lift the foil sheet, use a teflon bone folder and gently but firmly press the foil against your cardstock. I use this technique when using foil + toner sheet images and it works beautifully. I get a much better foiled image this way!

  17. Ppretty dot scallop die.
My Mother’s favorite flower is daisies, and I’d love to make a card with the daisy background.

  18. Your cards using this technique are gorgeous. Will definitely be trying this technique. Thanks for all the inspiration.

  19. I’ve been looking for more ways to use my foil and this stands out way more than embossing powder. Can’t wait to try it out — thank you!
