Faux Layered Die Cuts

Hello! If you have watched my videos before, you know I am a big fan of layering dies… especially background layering dies. However, these dies can be pricey, so I thought I would share a few ideas for creating a similar layered look with a single die!

For my first few cards, I used the gorgeous background die from the new Hero Arts February My Monthly Hero Kit. (More on the kit below.) I cut from three cardstocks – light blue, blue, and gold. I kept the gold as is, and but cut a little vertically from the center of the light blue piece. I then adhered the blue pieces on the back of gold die cut but slightly offset and meeting in the center. I did the same with the blue die cut, too. (Be sure to watch the video to see this in action! It will make more sense.) This gives a staggered look that mimics layered die cuts.

Here is a closer look at the layering. I really like the art deco look of that die!

I added stacked “HELLO” die cuts using the Hero Arts Luggage Tag Alphabet Dies (HA | SSS) and added a gold embossed “thinking of you” from the Hero Arts Prayers Stamp & Die (HA | SSS).

My second card is similar to the last. However, I added a bit of tone-on-tone stamping to the background with the new Hero Arts Arch Pattern Stamp (HA | SSS).

I also gold heat embossed a sentiment from the Hero Arts February My Monthly Hero Kit in the center. Simple!

Here is my last card using the die from the Hero Arts February My Monthly Hero Kit… but this time with a completely different look. I added a “hello” die cut from the Hero Arts Hello Stamp & Die (HA | SSS) and a gold embossed “BEAUTIFUL” sentiment from the Hero Arts Diamond in the Ruff Stamp Set (HA | SSS).

I really like the look of rainbow layered die cuts! Simple yet effective… and a great way to use up cardstock scraps!

Here is another example of faux layered dies. It features the Hero Arts Vintage Window Fancy Die (HA | SSS) and a butterfly image from the Hero Arts Deco-rations Stamp Set (HA | SSS). The sentiment is from the Hero Arts Prayers Stamp & Die (HA | SSS).

In my examples above, I cut a bit from the center of the die cuts so I could offset them easily towards the center. However, you can also just adhered them as is – but slightly offset – and get a different layered look. Here, I used the Hero Arts Bold Graphic Confetti Die (HA | SSS) and die cut it from four pieces of cardstock. LOVE this layered look! I also added a white frame around the layered piece using the Hero Arts Rectangle Infinity Dies (HA | SSS).

I added Hero Arts Luggage Tag Alphabet (HA | SSS) die cuts for a simple sentiment.

This faux layered die technique can also be done with other dies, such as border dies. On this card I used the Hero Arts Holiday Greenery Edge Die (HA | SSS).

I also added gold cardstock strips, gems, and a sentiment from the Hero Arts Prayers Stamp & Die (HA | SSS).
