Die Cut Monoprint + GIVEAWAY

Hello! A bit ago, I shared a fun Distress Ink Monoprint technique. Well I am back today to share a variation of this technique using die cuts! It is fun and results in two cards at once.

[All supplies are linked in the text below and in the thumbnails at the end of this post. Compensated affiliate links may be used at no cost to you.]

For all of the cards shown today, I used a Die Cut (faux) Monoprint technique. (Be sure to also watch THIS video for a variation of this technique.) I start each inking white cardstock with loads of Distress Ink and then die cutting with any die I want. I then mist the inked die cut with water and lay it onto white cardstock before running it through my die cut machine to press the pieces together. The excess ink from the wet die cut transfers onto the plain white cardstock… creating a second inked piece! Thus, for all of today’s cards, I end up with a pair of examples.

Be sure to watch the video to better understand the technique!

My first two cards feature the monoprint technique using the new Simon Says Stamp Outline Floral Frame Die.

I used the inked die cut piece on a plain white notecard along with an inked Simon Says Stamp Big Thanks die cut and a stamped message from the Simon Says Stamp Big Thanks Words Stamp Set.

This card uses the white panel where I transferred ink to. It is amazing how well it works! I also added gems to both cards for shine.

This next card uses the same Simon Says Stamp Outline Floral Frame Die, but I adhered both of the resulting pieces together on one card. The layered look gives lots of dimension! I also used the Simon Says Stamp CZ Design Hello Die and Simon Says Stamp Tiny Words Stamp Set.

Next up? A pair of cards made with the Simon Says Stamp Wrought Iron Wide Border Die. What a gorgeous die! I added a “hugs” greeting to the die cut using the new-and-oh-so-fabulous Simon Says Stamp Rounded Alphabet Dies.

I stacked a few extra white die cuts behind the inked die cut for a stacked look. It makes a big difference!

With the extra piece, I simply added a Simon Says Stamp You’re Doing Awesome die cut on a plain white notecard.

I really like how the new Simon Says Stamp Deco Heart Dies works so well with the older Simon Says Stamp Center Cut Heart Stamp! I used the two together to create my next pair of cards. The first card uses the inked die cut on an acetate window I created on the front of the card. The background is embossed with Hero Arts White Satin Pearl Embossing Powder.

I also added a sentiment to the window. The message is from the Simon Says Stamp Tiny Words Stamp Set… and the rounded sentiment banner is from the Simon Says Stamp Nested Banner Dies.

I used the monoprint piece from the Simon Says Stamp Deco Heart Die on a second simple card. This also features the Simon Says Stamp Tiny Words Stamp Set, Nested Banner Dies, Center Cut Heart Stamp and Hero Arts White Satin Pearl Embossing Powder.

The rest of my cards have shimmer on them. This is because I added some Perfect Pearls to my water bottle. This creates a pearlized water!

My next card pair shows clearly how this die cut monoprint technique ends up with two pieces that are mirror images of each other… using the Simon Says Stamp Sweet Tulip Die.

For both cards, I added Simon Says Stamp CZ Thanks Die Cuts.

Look how well that image transferred – a perfect mirror image of the last card.

This technique can also be done with backgrounds with a die cut opening. This pair of cards features the Simon Says Stamp Bixby Wreath Die. The inked piece is on the card on the right, along with a “hello” die cut from the Simon Says Stamp Oh Hello There Die.

Here you can see how well the excess ink transfer to the other piece! And I am in love with the new Simon Says Stamp Friend Outline Die.

The next two cards use the Simon Says Stamp Shimmer Burst Die, Big Thanks Dies and Stamp Set. I am amazed how well the ink transfers… even with these tiny little petals!

My last set of cards shows how well this technique works with background dies, also. I used the awesome new Simon Says Stamp Holiday Knit Background Die. The color transfers so well!

Here you can see detail that background die provides. I added lots of pearls to the pattern, too.

The dies I used today are part of the new Simon Says Stamp Diecember Release. There are LOTS of great dies – be sure to check them out HERE.

  1. There’s too many to name just one! My favorites are the picture book Santa cat, the nested sentiment frames, and the picture book panda.

  2. These are so great! And what you’ve done with them! You never cease to amaze! My favorite card is the one with the deco heart stamp, yet I think the outline floral frame may actually be my favorite die. Hard decisions. . . .

  3. I think my favorite die is the Rounded Alphabet. At first, I thought (based on the description at Simon’s store site) that it was one solid die that cut ALL the letters at once. I don’t consider that very practical. So I am so glad you used it here, so I could see that it’s a SET of dies that you can cut apart. Thank you! I love how your cards came out. I haven’t tried the Distress ink monoprint technique yet, but will sometime. Assuming, of course, that I can actually remember to try it! LOL Thanks so much for sharing such beautiful examples. Take care, and have a great day! 🙂 ~ Andrea

  4. Thank you so much for sharing yet another fun technique with beautiful results. My fave is the Outline floral frame, it is just so pretty and makes a card all by itself. Thanks for the chance.

  5. I like the new Deco Heart die. Especially with the card you made in this video, with the see-through window. This is an interesting technique, but I don’t have any intricate dies so I’ll have to figure out other options. Thanks for sharing.

  6. How fun! A giveaway! I love all your cards using the new products, but my favorite is the Simon Says Stamp Wrought Iron Wide Border Die! Thanks for your great tutorials, product review and giveaways!!!!

  7. I love the holiday knit background and the wrought iron die border die. Hard to choose there are so many good ones!! Thanks for sharing your creativity Jennifer you really do a great job!!!

  8. So hard to choose my favorite die, love floral die, burst die & tulip die. Flowers of course. Thank you for taking the time to post your great videos.

  9. Your cards are amazing! There are so many awesome dies in this release and it’s hard to choose a favorite, but I love the outline floral frame the best. This die creates such a pretty background and frame.

  10. I don’t guess I’m supposed to say one of everything?? If forced to choose I’d have to say that the Thank You die (can never, ever have enough Thank you’s!) and the shimmer die would be my top choices. At least in dies! You never cease to amaze. How do you come up with all the ideas??

  11. Oh I love all of these cards so much. They definitely provide lots of inspiration and you have so many different varieties with this post! I can’t decide whether I like the Outline Floral Frame Die or the Holiday Knit Background Die best.

  12. Jennifer! You have such wonderful ideas! So creative. I don’t know how you think up all the different ways to use the supplies most of us have. I’m loving all the cards, but I think the ones you made with the heart are my favorites.
I thank you for always being so inspirational.

  13. Such a cool technique! All your cards are beautiful, and I love the idea of getting two cards that are similar but not exactly the same. It’s hard to choose a favorite from the dies, but I really like the deco heart; it’s unlike anything that I already have. Thanks for sharing new ideas and techniques with us!

  14. Loving this technique with the bonus of getting two cards at once! My fav is the holiday knit. I can envision so much more than just using it for Christmas because it reminds me of a quilt pattern. Thank you for sharing you endless ideas.

  15. I’m always amazed by your wonderful techniques, and I definitely will be trying this one. I love all these new Simon Says Stamp dies and it’s hard to pick a favorite, so I’m going with something I love AND that I actually need — the Nested Banner Dies. So many possibilities for these.

  25. These are all so beautiful! My favorite are probably the nested banner dies, they’re just so useful. But I think the prettiest are the outline floral and holiday knit.

  26. What beautiful cards you’ve created with some of the fabulous new dies from SSS Diecember release. Such a great technique and I love that you get 2 cards out of the deal. There’s so many awesome dies in this release but I believe that I can say that the Outline Flower Frame die is my favourite followed by the Shimmer Burst die as my next favourite.
