Distress Oxide Inks are the most unique ink available to crafters. Since they have both dye ink properties and pigment ink properties, they can be used for great techniques. To learn more on the basics of Distress Oxide Inks, check out THIS video.
For my first two cards, I used the new Concord & 9th Thankful Leaves Turnabout Stamp Set (SSS | C9). With turnabout stamps, you stamp, then rotate, and stamp again… four times to cover a background. Instead of stamping, I clear heat embossed each time… and added Distress Oxide Ink over the whole paper. The embossing traps the color underneath… and resists the color applied on top. Be sure to watch the video to see this in action. I used layers of green Distress Oxide Inks. Since this ink is opaque, the background layers nicely without turning muddy.
I added a frame from the Concord & 9th Just Because Dies (SSS | C9) with vellum in the center to create a muted spot for the sentiment. The sentiment and leaf die cuts are also from the same set. I covered the leaf with a layer of Judikins Sparkle Embossing Powder for sparkle.
My next example showcases another background made in a very similar way, but on a 5 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ card. I created a vellum frame using the Concord & 9th Lovely Blossoms Dies (SSS | C9) and added a die cut inlay leaf made from the Concord & 9th Thankful Leaves Dies (SSS | C9). The “thank you” is from the Concord & 9th All About You Dies (SSS | C9). (All of these die sets are great – there are many ways to use them.)
That Concord & 9th Thankful Leaves Dies (SSS | C9) look so cool with die cut inlay and is worth the bit of effort!
This blue background was created with the Layered Distress Oxide Resist technique… but using individual stamps. You could do this with any stamps, but it works best with images that have a solid look to them.) I layered many different blue Distress Oxide Inks over clear heat embossing. (Again, watch the video!)
The sentiment is from the Concord & 9th Lovely Blossoms Dies (SSS | C9).
This last card is a bonus card… just showing the products used in a new way. I used the Concord & 9th Thankful Leaves Turnabout Stamp Set (SSS | C9) along with the Concord & 9th Thankful Leaves Dies (SSS | C9) to make the detail impressions. I white heat embossed a sentiment from the Concord & 9th Thankful Leaves Turnabout Stamp Set (SSS | C9) on top. The background was created by stamping Distress Oxide Inks with the same set.
I am loving that texture…
