Glimmer Metallic Paint Techniques + GIVEAWAY

Hi there! Today I am sharing many fun ideas for using the new Hero Arts Glimmer Metallic Inks. These inks are very unique and give beautiful results. (However, I will also make suggestions for other products that work for each technique.)

I was really excited to try the new Hero Arts Glimmer Metallic Inks (SSS | HA) – I am a fan of anything with shimmer! These inks are pigment based, acid free, archival, fade resistant, permanent, and fast drying. Thanks to this unique combination of properties, there are many fun techniques you can do with them. I can’t remember using any product like this before.

I know not everyone will be able to get these fun inks, so I also share other product options for each card below.

Here are the techniques I share in the video using the Hero Arts Glimmer Metallic Inks (SSS | HA)…

STAMPING

I was thrilled to find out that you stamp with the Hero Arts Glimmer Metallic Inks (SSS | HA)! I simply use a dry brush to paint it on the stamp. Easy!

For my first card, I used the Hero Arts Layering Poinsettia Stamp Set (SSS | HA). I stamped the first two layers of this layering set with Hero Arts Ink (SSS | HA) and then stamped the last layer with the red Hero Arts Glimmer Metallic Inks (SSS | HA). This gives a touch of dimension (since it looks a bit like paint) and metallic shimmer. I also used the Hero Arts Glimmer Metallic Inks (SSS | HA) at the center of each flower and for the second layer of the leaves.

The gold heat embossed sentiment is from the Hero Arts Christmas Tree Stamp Set (SSS | HA) and I clear heat embossed the wonderful new Hero Arts Sugar and Spice Stamp (SSS | HA) on the kraft background.

Check out that shine…

My next card also shows stamping with the Hero Arts Glimmer Metallic Inks (SSS | HA). I stamped the layers of the Hero Arts Christmas Tree Stamp Set (SSS | HA) with both regular stamping ink and the metallic inks. It works very well! I will talk about that background in a bit…

The fun die cut shapes were made with the great new Hero Arts Nesting Ornament Infinity Dies (SSS | HA).

If you don’t have these Hero Arts Glimmer Metallic Inks (SSS | HA), you can try stamping with metallic acrylic paints instead. These inks are more fluid, but they will work.

EMBOSSED RESIST

I find the Hero Arts Glimmer Metallic Inks (SSS | HA) are excellent with embossed resist for pretty backgrounds. There are a few ways to do this technique.

The first way is to add a bit of water to the Hero Arts Glimmer Metallic Inks (SSS | HA) and paint it over embossing. I really like this look! Here, I clear heat embossed the gorgeous new Hero Arts Holiday Foliage Stamp (SSS | HA) on green cardstock. I then mixed the gold Hero Arts Glimmer Metallic Ink (SSS | HA) with a bit of water and painted it on top. The embossing resists the paint and gives gold shine around it. I wish you could see the shine in real life!

For a similar look without Hero Arts Glimmer Metallic Inks (SSS | HA), you can try metallic watercolors. However, I like that these inks are thicker.

Another way to do embossed resist with Hero Arts Glimmer Metallic Inks (SSS | HA) is to not add water. I really like this look too! I clear heat embossed the Hero Arts Floral Tile Stamp (SSS | HA) on teal cardstock and then used a Mini Ink Blending Tool to apply silver Hero Arts Glimmer Metallic Inks (SSS | HA) over. I then buffed off the excess. By not adding water, the product goes on heavier. The silver ink pretty much black the teal cardstock under it.

I finished the card with a Hero Arts Holiday Greenery Edge (SSS | HA) die cut piece and a silver heat embossed message from the Hero Arts Winter Holiday Messages Stamp Set (SSS | HA).

Another resist example… this time with silver Hero Arts Glimmer Metallic Inks (SSS | HA) over a clear embossed Hero Arts Figure Eights Stamp (SSS | HA) image on white cardstock. Swoon!

If you don’t have these Hero Arts Glimmer Metallic Inks (SSS | HA), you can try this technique with metallic pigment ink pads or metallic acrylic paint.

WATERCOLOR TECHNIQUES

The Hero Arts Glimmer Metallic Inks (SSS | HA) can also be used for watercolor techniques.

Here, I used the Hero Arts Glimmer Metallic Inks (SSS | HA) with water to paint in a heat embossed Hero Arts Holiday Foliage Stamp (SSS | HA) background. The die cut sentiment is from the Hero Arts Wishes Stamp and Die Set (SSS | HA).

So much shimmer!

I also enjoy creating watercolor backgrounds. Here, I put a little of blue and silver Hero Arts Glimmer Metallic Inks (SSS | HA) directly on my glass work surface and added a bit of water. I pressed and moved my paper in the color and let it dry. So very easy!

I added a Hero Arts Snowflake Edge Die Cut (SSS | HA) and images from the Hero Arts Polar Greeting Stamp Set (SSS | HA).

I did the background on this next card the same way, but this features the Hero Arts Deer and Ornament Die (SSS | HA).

Here you can better see the shine…

For a similar look, try Distress Inks with water and Perfect Pearls.

BLENDING

You can also easily blend the Hero Arts Glimmer Metallic Inks (SSS | HA) on a background with any kind of inking tool. I blended blue and silver together — the perfect backdrop for this holiday card.

I added a stacked Hero Arts Snowflakes and Ornament (SSS | HA) die cut and a Hero Arts Christmas Word (SSS | HA) die cut covered with silver Hero Arts Glimmer Metallic Inks (SSS | HA).
