Frame Stamping is a simple technique that can be done with almost any stamps… and is perfect for one-layer creations. I share lots of examples showing variations of the technique.

My first card shows a frame created for a sentiment… surrounded by lots of soft stamping. I silver heated embossed a frame from the Altenew Geo Frames Stamp Set (SSS | ALT) and created a matching mask with Avery Removable Adhesive Sheets. Over the mask, I stamped and silver heat embossed images from the Altenew Floral Art Stamp Set (SSS | ALT). I even added heat embossed dots using a Sakura Quickie Glue Pen.

Inside of the frame, I added a sentiment from the Altenew Hello Gorgeous Stamp Set (SSS | ALT). (In the video, I share the names of the Altenew Ink colors I used.)

My next example shows frame stamping with the stamping *inside* of the frame. I again used the Altenew Geo Frames Stamp Set (SSS | ALT) and Altenew Floral Art Stamp Set (SSS | ALT). (I can’t get enough of those flowers!)

I also added subtle stamping outside of the frame with the Altenew Pinstripe Stamp Set (SSS | ALT). With the help of basic masking, you can create one-layered cards easily.

Here is example showing stamping both inside and outside of the frame. This features the fabulous Altenew Life is Awesome Stamp Set (SSS | ALT).

Inside of the frame, I stamped a dotted image from the Altenew Halftone Squares Stamp Set (SSS | ALT).

You can also use frame stamping to simply create a focal point on your card. Here, I created a background using the Altenew Block Print Stamp Set (SSS | ALT) over a masked frame. Over the frame, I green heat embossed leaves from the Altenew Leaf Canopy Stamp Set (SSS | ALT).

You can do this technique even if you don’t have frame stamps. You simply create the frame yourself! Here, I masked off a rectangle area on a white notecard using Purple Tape and stamped the Altenew Cattleya Build A Flower Set (SSS | ALT) over it. I used a black pen to create the frame. Simple!

  1. Love the Geo Frames and the Pin Stripe stamps and love these ideas you’ve given to us for a different look. Your videos are always so inspiring and I always feel I’ve got my mojo back after watching. Thank you.

  2. Thank you for sharing these one layer cards. I am always looking for inspiration on these since I have to mail most of my cards and they are much easier to mail LOL. These are beautiful designs to work from.

  3. I love how you take a very simple concept and make it into art! It’s amazing how just a bit of simple framing really enhances the beauty of these stamps. And I love the look of the last one. Can’t wait to unpack background stamps and see what I can do! (I think this design idea would make some beautiful Christmas cards!) Thank you so much.

  4. So beautiful Jennifer. I am a huge fan of one layer cards and the Geo Frames are the perfect focal image to back up these beautiful floral’s! TFS!

  5. Such beautiful cards! I love that there are stamps that can help those of us who are watercolor/artsy challenged!!
Thanks for sharing! I am always inspired by your amazing talent.
PS…Thanks for sharing the nail polish too!

  6. You always make it look so simple and then I end up buying it all! Hopefully mine come out anywhere near as beautiful as yours. Love the floral art set, frames and really love the pinstripe! Great stuff!

  7. Such clever ideas and especially using paper to mask the areas so as to make the frames if we don’t have any!!

  8. Jennifer,
These new stamps by Altenew are beautiful. Just love how you did that framing by masking a square or triangle in the center and then stamped. Thank you for more great ideas.

  9. My favorite in this release is the Inked Flora. But, block prints is a really close second. Love all the framing. It really does showcase so many of these new products. Nicely done.

  10. Love this frame stamping technique. Altenew’s new release is wonderful — I always gravitate toward florals and the ones you used are gorgeous. Beautiful cards.

  11. You’ve come up with another wonderful technique! I’m sure I’ll be trying frame stamping soon. I have to say, though, one layer cards are hard for me. My favorite today is the one you put a fingerprint on and had to trim down. I do love that little layer of color peeking around the edge! I think I need that to make it feel finished. A weird quirk, I think. Hugz!

  12. Altenew has several new colors since you last printed the blank color chart. Would love to have the new colors on a blank chart to fill in. I have most of their new colors and would like to add them to my chart if it were updated.

  13. Just thanks! Thanks for sharing so many, many creative ideas…I have learned so much from you! And thanks for tips on tools and such, too! Very helpful!! = )

  14. Jennifer, thanks for sharing these cards and the very helpful video tutorial. I use the altenew florals a lot and this adds a new way to create with them. Makes masking user friendly for me!

  15. Thanks for some more great ideas and techniques. You definitely encourage us in our creativity. I love the Floral Art stamp from Altenew and it’s on my wish list! Lol!

  16. Wow Jennifer, you have always such great ideas, I love it! Thank you for this learnful video an hope to use your ideas soon. Have a nice weekend.

  17. What can I say that I haven’t said before? So inspiring and creative! What gorgeous stamp sets! I can’t wait to be able to play again…still recovering from my recent foot surgery and trying to reorganize and redecorate my stampin’ space, I keep telling myself…”baby steps”! LOL

  18. The Floral Art and Block Print stamp sets are my favorites in this release. I’ve resisted layering stamps since they tend to look store bought, but the white area in these layers gives it a subtle effect.

  19. Hi Jennifer,

I just wanted to say that I just completed your survey, I really enjoy your videos, I like your clean designs, your sweet calm voice overs, and I just love the way you nearly always seem to have matching nail polish to the ink colours you use on the day. Keep up the fantastic work.
    Jen

  22. Beautiful one layer cards. These are defiantly not beyond me so I can try these. Thanks so much, I love your videos but this is more my level currently, not that it ever stops me drooling over your videos.

  23. As usual, I am impressed with your work. Every video I watch makes me want to try the technique, however, I don’t have the money to buy everything. That is okay

  24. What gorgeous cards and a wonderful idea to “frame” images, Jennifer! Thanks for the inspiration and wonderful examples and for sharing the new Altenew products. Love them all! Loved watching your video where you explain it all and showcase the products. Love seeing the techniques! Thanks and hugs!

  25. I loved them all but I find myself getting overwhelmed when a new stamp set comes . When I see your examples it all looks amazing but when I sit down to make my own I guess I just get stuck . Your videos help a lot Jennifer , thank you for sharing your gifts with me .

  26. This is my MOST FAVORITE technique and video you’ve ever done. Thank you for showing how to do this. You are a great artist, and it is absolutely amazing that you show your techniques in such a clear and organized way. Thank you.
