Inside Shadow Box Cards + GIVEAWAY

Hello. I am really excited to share today’s video with you! I show a few ways to create “inside shadow box cards”. The cards look normal from the outside but when you open it? A shadow box pops up!

This is such fun to create cards with a surprise inside! And these shadow box cards are easy to make. To learn the process and the dimensions used, please watch the video. It is better to see in action then to share in text.

For all of most of my cards, I used the new Hero Arts June My Monthly Hero Arts Kit. This is an *amazing* set that will sell out fast! (More on it below.) Such beautiful images.

I kept the front of my cards simple since the inside has so much to offer. On this first card, I white heat embossed images from the Hero Arts June My Monthly Hero Arts Stamp Set and used a VersaMarker Pen to draw waves.

And when you open the card, you see a fun shadow box inside! Lots of dimension. I cut the window with a die from the Hero Arts Oval Infinity Dies (HA |SSS) and added lots of stamping with the Hero Arts June My Monthly Hero Arts Stamp Set. Those clouds are sooooo pretty…

For my next card, I again kept the outside’s design very simple. The “just a note to say” is from the Hero Arts Hello Stamp & Die Set (HA | SSS).

In the inside, I used more of the images from the Hero Arts June My Monthly Hero Arts Stamp Set to create a tropical scene. The islands in the distance? I made those by stamping with the back of the cloud stamps! The “hello” is heat embossed with sand embossing powder that is included in the Hero Arts June My Monthly Hero Arts Kit. Oh – and I used a die from the Hero Arts Rectangle Infinity Dies (HA | SSS) to cut the window.

This next card is my favorite – the stamps are such fun! On the front, I used the Hero Arts June My Monthly Hero Arts Stamp Set and Hero Arts Hello Stamp & Die Set (HA | SSS) sentiment. (Oh – and I stamped the envelope flap with the Hero Arts Abstract Wave Stamp to match.)

And on the inside? I added sentiments and a seagull from the Hero Arts Seas the Day Stamp Set (HA | SSS). So cute!

My last card is also an inside shadow box card… but this time it is top folding. On the front, I create a wave element using Hero Arts Wave and Sea Confetti Die (HA | SSS) and a die from the Hero Arts Circle Infinity Dies (HA | SSS).

On the inside, I used the Hero Arts Killer Messages Stamp Set (HA | SSS) to create the shark and sentiment. That Hero Arts Wave and Sea Confetti Die (HA | SSS) is great for creating die cut waves!

I had SUCH fun making these. I hope you try this shadow box card design!

  1. Love the cards you created. I have made some shadow box cards in the past with varying results, they are great fun when they work out. Congratulations.

  2. I’ve seen–and made–shadowbox cards, but never one like this, where the shadowbox is on the inside. (The ones I’ve seen before, the shadowbox IS the card.) This is super cool! Thank you for showing us how to do it, and for repeatedly showing the steps, so hopefully it will stick in our brains. 🙂 Love how these came out, and hope to try it myself sometime soon. 🙂 ~ Andrea

  3. Jennifer,
These shadow box cards are great. Thanks for all the dimensions to make them. I wish I was able to order this new Hero Art’s stamp set this month but they are all sold out. I just love the layering of the water and the clouds. I’ve never seen a two or three step set like this before. I use my Misti a lot with all my three step floral stamps which I absolutely love. Thanks again for a wonderful video.

  13. What’s not to love about these cards & this video? Well I guess that the kits are sold out but that’s not your fault! Actually, lol, it might be partially your fault- when you demonstrate something, it’s always so beautiful and well done that we all want to try it. And it makes us want the same things you used, hence the out of stock status. . Oh well, as much as I’d love the June kit, I’ll just have to use something else to make the inner shadow box.
