Inside Shadow Box Cards + GIVEAWAY

Hello. I am really excited to share today’s video with you! I show a few ways to create “inside shadow box cards”. The cards look normal from the outside but when you open it? A shadow box pops up!

This is such fun to create cards with a surprise inside! And these shadow box cards are easy to make. To learn the process and the dimensions used, please watch the video. It is better to see in action then to share in text.

For all of most of my cards, I used the new Hero Arts June My Monthly Hero Arts Kit. This is an *amazing* set that will sell out fast! (More on it below.) Such beautiful images.

I kept the front of my cards simple since the inside has so much to offer. On this first card, I white heat embossed images from the Hero Arts June My Monthly Hero Arts Stamp Set and used a VersaMarker Pen to draw waves.

And when you open the card, you see a fun shadow box inside! Lots of dimension. I cut the window with a die from the Hero Arts Oval Infinity Dies (HA |SSS) and added lots of stamping with the Hero Arts June My Monthly Hero Arts Stamp Set. Those clouds are sooooo pretty…

For my next card, I again kept the outside’s design very simple. The “just a note to say” is from the Hero Arts Hello Stamp & Die Set (HA | SSS).

In the inside, I used more of the images from the Hero Arts June My Monthly Hero Arts Stamp Set to create a tropical scene. The islands in the distance? I made those by stamping with the back of the cloud stamps! The “hello” is heat embossed with sand embossing powder that is included in the Hero Arts June My Monthly Hero Arts Kit. Oh – and I used a die from the Hero Arts Rectangle Infinity Dies (HA | SSS) to cut the window.

This next card is my favorite – the stamps are such fun! On the front, I used the Hero Arts June My Monthly Hero Arts Stamp Set and Hero Arts Hello Stamp & Die Set (HA | SSS) sentiment. (Oh – and I stamped the envelope flap with the Hero Arts Abstract Wave Stamp to match.)

And on the inside? I added sentiments and a seagull from the Hero Arts Seas the Day Stamp Set (HA | SSS). So cute!

My last card is also an inside shadow box card… but this time it is top folding. On the front, I create a wave element using Hero Arts Wave and Sea Confetti Die (HA | SSS) and a die from the Hero Arts Circle Infinity Dies (HA | SSS).

On the inside, I used the Hero Arts Killer Messages Stamp Set (HA | SSS) to create the shark and sentiment. That Hero Arts Wave and Sea Confetti Die (HA | SSS) is great for creating die cut waves!

I had SUCH fun making these. I hope you try this shadow box card design!

  1. I honestly have never seen this type of card before, but I think it is really cool…and there are some friends that I think would love it!

  2. You always have wonderful videos. I love these cards. I love the beach but I love horses just as much. I can see lots of cards using this technique. I was wondering what color the green paper was and where you got it? It is such a beautiful shade. Thank you for the video and awesome cards.

  3. This was a new way to make an interactive card for me and I LOVE it! Your cards are so great and I immediately went to order a kit after seeing your cards but they are sold out. My last hope is to win a kit – LOL.

  4. Your imagination is “killer” and your instruction is so lovely. I can’t wait to try your technique but alas the kit is sold out already!!!! The clouds would be so useful in many scenes. WAH!

  5. I’ve been wanting to try a shadow box card for awhile. Your projects are beautiful and the last card is so much fun!

  6. Jennifer, I too love Hero Arts kits and I was so happy to see all the cards you made with June’s kit. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this month’s HERO ARTS kit!

I for one would also like to see another “Fairy with a long (to the knee) dress” kit. She was beautiful and unique and I would love to have a stamp set like that one – it was one of the first kits I had ever seen and it hooked me for Hero Arts kits – just like this one. This stamp set has everything needed for a beautiful beach scene – including that absolutely new and exciting sand embossing powder to make the HELLO and footprints. Can’t wait to get it and all the extra add-ons (unfortunately the complete group was sold out before I could get everything) – but I got most of the add-ons.

Thank you so much Jeniffer, for being the card-making teacher and technique guru. Because of you my house is now overrun with cardmaking supplies; but I couldn’t be happier! As a person who has had a wicked disease called Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Syndrome for over 28 years, I am sure that I am only getting by with God’s help because he gave me the purpose of making cards for others…God Bless you, and all your friendly helpers who are teaching me this lovely and fun art. Caring for a husband with Parkinson’s would have been impossible without THIS outlet and escape. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU,

  7. This is a WOW! Card! Thanks for sharing how to make it. LOve all the beachy stamps and dies!
