Inside Shadow Box Cards + GIVEAWAY

Hello. I am really excited to share today’s video with you! I show a few ways to create “inside shadow box cards”. The cards look normal from the outside but when you open it? A shadow box pops up!

This is such fun to create cards with a surprise inside! And these shadow box cards are easy to make. To learn the process and the dimensions used, please watch the video. It is better to see in action then to share in text.

For all of most of my cards, I used the new Hero Arts June My Monthly Hero Arts Kit. This is an *amazing* set that will sell out fast! (More on it below.) Such beautiful images.

I kept the front of my cards simple since the inside has so much to offer. On this first card, I white heat embossed images from the Hero Arts June My Monthly Hero Arts Stamp Set and used a VersaMarker Pen to draw waves.

And when you open the card, you see a fun shadow box inside! Lots of dimension. I cut the window with a die from the Hero Arts Oval Infinity Dies (HA |SSS) and added lots of stamping with the Hero Arts June My Monthly Hero Arts Stamp Set. Those clouds are sooooo pretty…

For my next card, I again kept the outside’s design very simple. The “just a note to say” is from the Hero Arts Hello Stamp & Die Set (HA | SSS).

In the inside, I used more of the images from the Hero Arts June My Monthly Hero Arts Stamp Set to create a tropical scene. The islands in the distance? I made those by stamping with the back of the cloud stamps! The “hello” is heat embossed with sand embossing powder that is included in the Hero Arts June My Monthly Hero Arts Kit. Oh – and I used a die from the Hero Arts Rectangle Infinity Dies (HA | SSS) to cut the window.

This next card is my favorite – the stamps are such fun! On the front, I used the Hero Arts June My Monthly Hero Arts Stamp Set and Hero Arts Hello Stamp & Die Set (HA | SSS) sentiment. (Oh – and I stamped the envelope flap with the Hero Arts Abstract Wave Stamp to match.)

And on the inside? I added sentiments and a seagull from the Hero Arts Seas the Day Stamp Set (HA | SSS). So cute!

My last card is also an inside shadow box card… but this time it is top folding. On the front, I create a wave element using Hero Arts Wave and Sea Confetti Die (HA | SSS) and a die from the Hero Arts Circle Infinity Dies (HA | SSS).

On the inside, I used the Hero Arts Killer Messages Stamp Set (HA | SSS) to create the shark and sentiment. That Hero Arts Wave and Sea Confetti Die (HA | SSS) is great for creating die cut waves!

I had SUCH fun making these. I hope you try this shadow box card design!

  5. Great video on creating shadow box cards. The “surprise” when opening is really pretty, and I love the beachy scenes. The sand embossing powder looks like a must-have.

  6. Thanks for unveiling the mystery of the shadow box card for me! You always provide detail on the best techniques! And that kit! I set my alarm clock, so that I wouldn’t miss it before it sold out; however, I found myself standing at my computer, just waiting for the clock to tick to the release time!

  7. I hadn’t seen this technique before, and I love it! Great for when you want some paper-engineered wow factor but can’t or don’t wish to get into a lot of complex assembly. I can see using this approach for some of the image combos I have planned for magic slider cards — this would be another fun inside/outside way to “tell the story.” Thanks for the clear instructions and inspiring examples!

  8. I love it when you show these “engineered” techniques, and this one may be my favorite! I can’t wait to try this. This is such a great release – so many possibilities. It relaxes me just looking at it.

  9. This kit is probably my favorite Hero Art monthly kits ever!!!! I just LOVE the beach so much, I live at the beach here at the Jersey shore. 🙂
Your cards are just gorgeous Jennifer! Truly mean that! My favorite is the “hello” in the sand with the mountains in the background!!!! LOVE that you took the cloud stamp and stamped the backside to create the mountains! I LOVE watching you because you are so inspiring and always bring us new and fresh ideas! Thank you for sharing such beautiful work again!!!!!!
    Have an amazing week!

  21. Like the technique, I have seen others ways of doing a shadow box but prefer cards that open in the usual or obvious ways or at least have minimal instructions (pull, turn, etc). I often wonder how recipients know how to open some of the fancy folds I have seen and even appreciate but can’t imagine my Mother figuring out how to open some of them.

  22. These cards are awesome. I love the kit and, now with these shadowbox cards, I love it even more! tfs
