Hi again! Today is all about new ways to use background stamps. Background stamps are great for inking techniques, etc… but also for one-layer treasures. And I have several for you today.

I have done many technique videos with background stamps in the past… from simple to complex. But today focuses on ways to use *part* of a background stamp for fun one-layer cards. I didn’t keep most of the cards as one-layer cards. But you could!
The background of my first card was created by stamping just the corner of the Gina K Diagonal Stripe Stamp (SSS | GK) four times. Be sure to watch my video to see how I easily did this without a stamping tool. (For the ink colors, check out the thumbnails below.)
Here is another card with the same technique, but this time using two background stamps – the Ink Blot Shop Wild Hatch Herringbone (SSS | IB) and Reverse Confetti Pattern Block Stamps (SSS | RC). (I colored in a few of the flowers with a light matching marker.)
You can also use the corner of a background stamp to create perfect triangles of stamping. All you need is a few pencil guidelines. Here, I used the My Favorite Things Itsy Bitsy Polka Dot Stamp (SSS | MFT). So fun and simple! I added a sentiment with the Memory Box Jotted Awesome Die and Hello Bluebird Cheery Greetings Stamp Set.
Here is another example of the same technique but with two background stamps – the My Favorite Things Itsy Bitsy Polka Dot (SSS | MFT) and Simon Says Stamp Flower Explosion Stamp. (I colored in a few of the flowers with a light matching marker.)
You can also stamp just part of a background stamp for a one layer card. But stamping with the edge of a stamp instead of using masking, you get much better, crisp results. Here, I used the Gina K Diagonal Stripe Stamp (SSS | GK)… and check out how crisp that edge is…
I stamped a fun border from the Ink Blot Stop Envelope Mail Art (SSS | IB) and a sentiment from the Mama Elephant Creativity is Contagious Stamp Set. I am in love with this simple card and plan to make several more!
You can also use two background stamps for a one-layer design. Here, I used the Gina K Diagonal Stripe Stamp (SSS | GK) and the beautiful Gina K Rose Lace Stamp (SSS | GK). The “hello” is a stamp I made with the Memory Box Folksy Script Hello Die and craft foam… and the “beautiful” is from the Hello Bluebird Cheery Greetings Stamp Set.
For my next example, I did a bit of masking with the Ink Blot Shop Wild Hatch Herringbone Stamp (SSS | IB) and Therm O Web Purple Tape. I really like how this results in a focal point in the center of the card for a sentiment.
I hope you will give this idea a try!
