Layered Oxide Ink Stamping + Giveaway

Hello! I have had many people ask me to share more ideas using Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Inks. So I am here to share a video focused on my favorite technique with these inks. Oh – and in the video I also show how to get similar results with traditional Distress Inks.

Today’s technique can be done with any stamps you may have but really works fabulously with background stamps. All of the examples here use Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Inks. To see how to do this with traditional Distress Inks, watch the end of the video.

All of my examples also use Simon Says Stamp Center Cut Background Stamps. There are a few different designs, but they all are cling stamps whose centers come out so you can stamp the center and frame together or separately. (To see more on the stamps, check out THIS video.)

Just FYI – many of my cards are “mom” cards that I plan to give to fellow moms to encourage them. What mom doesn’t want to hear they rock?!

My first few examples feature backgrounds made with regular white cardstock. (I used my favorite – Neenah Classic Crest 110lb Cardstock.) I pressed a Distress Oxide Ink directly onto the cardstock to apply a very solid, heavy layer of ink. I then inked a background stamp with a lighter shade of Distress Oxide Ink and misted it. After stamping it on the inked background, I end up with an image that seems to glow. I also like how the chalky-like appearance.

My first card is my favorite of the bunch. I applied a solid layer of Abandoned Coral Distress Oxide Ink onto white cardstock. For the stamping, I used the new Simon Says Stamp Center Cut Burst Stamp. I inked the center burst image with Candied Apple Distress Oxide Ink and misted it with water before stamping in on the inked cardstock. For the frame, I used Squeezed Lemonade. The water lightens the background color and allows the stamped ink color to show. It is gorgeous in real life! The sentiment features the Simon Says Stamp Bold Mom Die Cut and a Simon Says Stamp Seeing Stars stamped sentiment.

This next background was created with the same technique, but using Salty Ocean and Squeezed Lemonade Distress Oxide Inks and the new Simon Says Stamp Center Cut Star Stamp. The “you’re a stellar” is from the Simon Says Stamp Simple Sentiments Stamp Set.

I am crazy about this chalk-like background on this next card! This features Wilted Violet and Picked Raspberry Distress Oxide Inks, but with the Simon Says Stamp Center Cut Heart Stamp. You can see the unique look you get with these inks!

I covered the “MOM” die cuts with Hero Arts White Satin Pearl Embossing Powder for a pearly look… and used the same powder on vellum for the heart behind it. The “so grateful” is from the Simon Says Stamp CZ Love You Mama Stamp Set.

Next up? A background created with white cardstock, Seedless Preserves and Picked Raspberry Distress Oxide Inks, and the Simon Says Stamp Center Cut Heart Stamp. Dreamy! The “you are a great” is from the Simon Says Stamp You and Me Stamp Set, and the “mom” is from the Simon Says Stamp Bold Mom Die Set.

My last example on regular white cardstock shows Lucky Clover and Cracked Pistachio Distress Oxide Inks, and the Simon Says Stamp Center Cut Flower Stamp.

I created the butterfly with the Simon Says Stamp Adeline Butterfly and Stitched Butterflies Dies… and covered the die cuts with Hero Arts White Satin Pearl Embossing Powder. The sentiment is from the Simon Says Stamp CZ Love You Mama Stamp Set.

The rest of my examples feature backgrounds made with Tim Holtz Alcohol Ink Cardstock. This is a special cardstock that works great for this technique, however you can try any glossy cardstock you may have. For a video sharing more about using Distress Oxide Inks on this glossy paper, watch THIS video. The technique in today’s video works the same as on the regular cardstock, but you will need to use a fixative when done.

My first example on Tim Holtz Alcohol Ink Cardstock uses Seedless Preserves Distress Oxide Ink on the background… along with stamping of the Simon Says Stamp Center Cut Heart Stamp with Picked Raspberry Distress Oxide Ink and a bit of water. I love the shine of the glossy cardstock.

The “mama” is from the Simon Says Stamp CZ Love You Mama Stamp Set and is white heat embossed on vellum. The “you totally got this” is from the Simon Says Stamp Simple Sentiments Stamp Set.

My next cards shows using both the center and frame of the Simon Says Stamp Center Cut Burst Stamp. For the frame, I heat embossed with Hero Arts White Satin Pearl Embossing Powder on a white notecard. For the center, I used Abandoned Coral and Squeezed Lemonade Distress Oxide Ink on Tim Holtz Alcohol Ink Cardstock.

The “keep shining bright” is from the older Simon Says Stamp Seeing Stars Stamp Set.

Another of my favorite cards from today is this next one. I first covered Tim Holtz Alcohol Ink Cardstock with Picked Raspberry Distress Oxide Ink… and then stamped with the center of the Simon Says Stamp Center Cut Burst Stamp with Squeezed Lemonade Distress Oxide Ink and bit of water. Next, I heat embossed the frame of the Simon Says Stamp Center Cut Burst Stamp with Hero Arts White Satin Pearl Embossing Powder. I covered the Simon Says Stamp Big Thanks die cuts with a couple layers of Hero Arts White Satin Pearl Embossing Powder, too.

Next up is a background created with Mermaid Lagoon and Squeezed Lemonade Distress Oxide Inks, along with the Simon Says Stamp Center Cut Star Stamp. The “you’re a star” is from the new Simon Says Stamp Under the Sea Animals Stamp Set.

You can see the vellum heat embossed star behind the sentiment. This is a great way to create focal point.

My next card is simple! I just added a Simon Says Stamp You’re a Star Die cut along with a few stars to the center of my card. Easy peasy!

By the way, I did spray these with Design Master Clear Finish Matte Spray to protect them. Worked great.
