Glazed Distress Oxide + GIVEAWAY
Hello! Welcome back. Today I am sharing a fun technique that I learned from Tim Holtz using Distress Oxide Inks and glossy cardstock. It gives such unique results!

There are so many wonderful things you can do with Distress Oxide Inks. (Check out my list of videos below.) And I was excited to learn of a great new technique from Tim Holtz of using Oxide Inks on glossy cardstock. (Used with permission. Thanks, Tim!)
This technique requires you to use certain glossy cardstocks. The glossy cardstock I used is Tim Holtz Alcohol Ink Cardstock and it worked great! You can try it with any glossy cardstocks you have – it may work. Not all glossy cardstocks are the same. But I know Tim Holtz Alcohol Ink Cardstock works… as does Ranger Glossy Paper.
In my video, I share many ways of adding Distress Oxide Inks onto glossy cardstocks with water. The key is to always dry the paper before adding more layers. (That is the case on regular cardstock, too.) When I was done, the paper had a chalky, cloudy look. But by using a Mini Ink Blending Tool to apply a thin layer of Tim Holtz Distress Micro Glaze, the backgrounds come to life and you can see all the layers. So cool!
My first card features a background I created with this technique… using a brush to apply the color. I pressed various colors of Distress Oxide Ink onto my Tim Holtz Tonic Mat and added a bit of water. I then used a brush to paint the colors onto a piece of glossy cardstock. I dried the background between each layer. Finally, I coated it with a thin layer of Tim Holtz Distress Micro Glaze. The results? A fun pool with lots of waves! I used the background as a pool with the Avery Elle Splash Stamp Set and Dies.
When you apply the Tim Holtz Distress Micro Glaze, the layers of color pop and are gorgeous. It is also fun to have a glossy surface on a card.
Here is another background that I created by adding the layers of color by dipping them into Distress Oxide Ink on my Tim Holtz Tonic Mat. Would make a great ocean, too. But that Avery Elle Splash Stamp Set is just too cute.
This example on the left uses the same technique but is much softer with less layers. I like that you can get different looks from this technique.
I colored all of the images with Copic Markers and added details with my Black Glaze and Tonic Aqua Shimmer Pens. I stamped the sentiments with Tsukineko Versafine Clair Nocturne Ink. (This is my new favorite ink for sentiments. I will talk more about it in future videos.)
Who doesn’t love unicorns!? I am simply giddy over the new Clearly Besotted Fairy Tale Unicorns Stamp Set. I also thought the Lawn Fawn Simple Puffy Clouds Dies were perfect for cutting clouds from one of my glazed distress oxide backgrounds. I added all the pieces to a Avery Elle Double Stitched Rectangle die cut... along with a Honey Bee Ridiculously Happy Stamp Set sentiment.
Here is another version using the same elements. The sentiment on this one is from the Pretty Pink Posh Encouraging Greeting Stamp Set.
You can see the Black Glaze and Tonic Aqua Shimmer I added to the unicorn… gotta love the shine.
For my last card, I white heat embossed Pretty Pink Posh Cherry Blossoms Stamp Set on a couple of glazed distress oxide backgrounds. I then cut out and added the images to a card along with a Pretty Pink Posh Encouraging Greeting Stamp Set sentiment. Simple!
