Distress Oxide Water Painting
Hello. Today is all about getting more out of your Distress Oxide Inks (or traditional Distress Inks) by painting over them with water. The results are subtle and beautiful.

Distress Oxide Inks react with water and give a soft, white-ish look. Today I show how you can cover a background with Oxide Ink and then paint over it with water. This does work with traditional Distress Ink, but will look a bit different.
For my first example, I white heat embossed several images from the Simon Says Stamp Even More Spring Flowers Stamp Set on white cardstock. I then used my Mini Ink Blending Tool to apply Mermaid Lagoon and Blueprint Sketch Distress Oxide inks very generously on top. Next, I painted in the outline flowers with water. The Oxide Ink reacts with the water and becomes softer in those areas. So pretty! I added a sentiment using the new Simon Says Stamp Big Thanks Dies and Simon Says Stamp Big Thanks Words Stamp Set… along with a few White Nuvo Drops.
My next example is very similar, but I instead used Lucky Clover, Cracked Pistachio, and Forest Moss Distress Oxide Inks for the background. I like how the water caused these particular ink colors to get softer with a bit of a blue tint. The dots were created with Morning Dew Nuvo Drops.
After applying Mermaid Lagoon and Peacock Feathers to this next background, I painted the images with water. I let it dry and then painted again with a Twisted Citron Oxide Ink and water mix. This gives a green tint to the images…
My last example shows a bold Candied Apple and Abandoned Coral Background. I again painted with water… and then a mix of Squeezed Lemonade Distress Oxide Ink and water. I love that creamy look!
For heat embossed sentiments, I like to use Gina K Detail White Embossing Powder. A perfect image!
