Alcohol Ink Ghost Stamping
Hi! I am back with another alcohol ink technique. This one is fun and gives ghost-like images! If you are in love with alcohol inks like I am, you will likely enjoy this technique.

Many of you have been telling me that you are enjoying alcohol inks, too! So I wanted to bring you another technique that I learned from Tim Holtz almost 10 years ago. (Thanks for the permission and tips, Tim!) This technique works with alcohol ink on non-porous surfaces such as Yupo Paper, acetate, glass, etc. You also need to use Archival Ink. This is a specialty ink that makes the magic happen!
For all of my examples (except the last one), I started by applying alcohol ink to Yupo paper. I then heat set it a bit before adding the stamping.
For my first card, I stamped on my alcohol inked yupo background with leaves from the Simon Says Stamp Bold Flowers Stamp Set and pink Archival Ink. After stamping one leaf, I quickly wiped the ink away with a dry cloth. I repeated this until I covered the whole background. The images left behind look ghostly.
I added sentiments using the Simon Says Stamp Big Thanks Dies and Simon Says Stamp Big Thanks Words Stamp Set… and Pink and Main Silver Glossy Dots accents.
I used the same process for this next example…
The top “thanks” die cut is cut from a piece of scrap alcohol inked paper.
To create this next background, I swiped alcohol ink back and forth across Yupo Paper with a Tim Holtz Felt Alcohol Ink Applicator. I then did the ghost stamping with pink and orange Archival Ink.
The Archival Ink only leaves a tiny bit of color behind after you wipe it away. You can really use any color, but I recommend lighter color (a light grey would be a great all-around ink for this technique) or matching color.
The added sentiment on this card is from the Simon Says Stamp Emphatic Stamp Set. Isn’t is fun? The top “thanks” die cut is Simon Says Stamp Silver Glitter Cardstock.
On this next background, I stamped with black Archival Ink. You can see it leaves a tiny bit of grey behind, but not much. I know many people have this black ink, so you can use it! This leaf image is from the Simon Says Stamp Even More Spring Set.
You can use any images for this stamping. However, be sure to wipe away the ink immediately before it dries.
Background stamps work great for this technique, too. Here I used the Simon Says Stamp Center Cut Heart Stamp.
This technique also works on acetate. I applied alcohol ink to Judikins Embossable Window Plastic – so pretty! After stamping with Archival Ink and wiping it away, the results are beautiful. I added it to a card with a dimensional frame.
Love the shadows this creates behind the acetate…
