Alcohol Ink Details + Download

Hello! I am back with another alcohol ink video for you today! This time I share ways to add details to create even more interesting looks. I also show how to make the most of background dies with simple card designs.

Sometimes when I create backgrounds with alcohol ink, I end up with simple looks that I want to spice up a bit. Today I show a few ways to do this. However, if alcohol inks aren’t for you, you can also use today’s background die card designs with any technique.

Note: Please use in very ventilated area. Also, I would not mist the alcohol too much – just a bit.

For all of my alcohol ink backgrounds, I started with Tim Holtz Yupo Paper and added Tim Holtz Alcohol Inks and Blending Solution. I used a straw to blow air on the wet color to move it. Once the background dried, I added “details” (dots, lines, etc.) with rubbing alcohol… and a mini mister, toothpick, or brush. On others, I added dots of Tim Holtz Alcohol Ink Metallic Mixatives.

My first pair of cards feature a background created with pink, red, and Rose Gold Tim Holtz Alcohol Inks. I then cut it and a piece of white cardstock with the SugarPea Starburst Cover Plate Die. I used all the pieces with a in-lay look to create two cards.

You can see the details I added to the backgrounds – – little dots made with rubbing alcohol. For the sentiment, I stamped the “you’re awesome” sentiment from the SugarPea Talk is Chic Stamp Set with dark pink ink… and then heat embossed over it with Hero Arts White Satin Pearl Embossing Powder. For the matching card, I white heat embossed the same sentiment.

My second pair of cards also features the SugarPea Starburst Cover Plate Die along with alcohol inked backgrounds. This background was one that I made and didn’t like because it was very plain. So I misted it with rubbing alcohol and added lots of details… completely changing the look. I used the SugarPea Celebrate Die and SugarPea Talk is Chic Stamp Set for the sentiments.

Next I used the SugarPea Large Striped Cover Plate Die to create a pair of cards from another alcohol ink background. (This time I used the Pearl Mixative for shimmer in the background.) This color palette is my favorite!

I added lots of “texture” and details with misted rubbing alcohol. Swoon! For the sentiment I used the SugarPea Thanks Die and the SugarPea Heartfelt Sympathy Stamp Set.

For this next card, I used scraps of an alcohol inked background to die cut the sentiment.

Here is another pair created in a very similar way. For the card on the right, I gold heat embossed a sentiment from the SugarPea Heartfelt Sympathy Stamp Set.

My next example shows that you can also use Gold Mixative Alcohol Ink to your backgrounds for detail. Here, I applied the gold with a toothpick to create tiny dots. I also created dots and “movement” with a brush and rubbing alcohol.

To cut the fun angles, I used the SugarPea Card Front Element Builder Dies… along with the SugarPea Sympathy Die and Heartfelt Sympathy Stamp Set for the sentiment.

And here is another featuring the same dies and stamps. I added lots of “texture” to this background by misting rubbing alcohol.

My favorite of today’s cards are the next two… and they were created with the small scraps leftover from the other cards! For this one, I used the SugarPea Large Striped Cover Plate Die along with lots of colorful alcohol inked scraps. The sentiment is from the SugarPea Thanks Die and I covered it with Tonic Crystal Glaze.

My last card also uses scraps, but this time with the SugarPea Starburst Cover Plate Die and SugarPea Talk is Chic Stamp Set.

I did add “details” with dots of rubbing alcohol. This card design would work with any type of scraps!
