Simple No-Heat Foil Techniques
Hi there! It seems that foiling is becoming popular again… so I thought I would share several simple no-heat foil techniques.

Many months ago I did several videos on adding transfer (or heat activated) foil to your cards for the ultimate shine. (If you missed those videos you can find them HERE.) However, many of those videos require special tools, products, or heat (laminator). So today I am sharing several simple techniques for using foil with supplies you likely already have.
#1: FOIL WINDOWS
The easiest way to use foil with the best results is to hold it behind a die cut window. This way you don’t have to use anything to adhere is. For my example, I added color with Copic Markers (you can use anything permanent, such as Sharpies or alcohol ink) to the gorgeous Gina K Sparkling Silver Foil. I just used tape to hold it up against white cardstock cut with the new Simon Says Stamp Sprinkle Heart Die.
The sentiment is from the Simon Says Stamp Simple Sentiments 1 Stamp Set. Simple and sweet! And look at the shine of that colored Gina K Sparkling Silver Foil!
#2: FOIL STRIPES
Another simple way to add foil is to use double-sided tape. My favorite is Be Creative Tape, which comes in many widths. I applied a few stripes of tape and pressed my foil onto it. When I removed the remaining foil (and the clear backing), the shine was left behind. I used a few colors of foil to create a fun rainbow. The hearts are from the Simon Says Stamp Sprinkle Heart Die and the sentiment is from the Simon Says Stamp Here For You Die.
I mostly used Gina K Foil (it is my favorite!), but also a bit of Deco Foil. (They are made by the same company and work the same.) It is nearly impossible to photograph this well, so be sure to watch the video!
Keep in mind that this foil can be scratched because it is on adhesive. However, I haven’t had a problem with it. If you want to “protect” the foil, you can leave the backing on it and trim it down. (Be sure to watch the video to better understand this.)
#3: DIE CUT FOIL
My favorite way to use foil is for die cutting. For this card, I covered a piece of cardstock with Stick It Adhesive. After removing the release paper, I pressed Gina K Sparkling Silver Foil onto the exposed adhesive and didn’t peel the foil backing off. (Leaving it there protects the foil. No need to remove it here!) I then cut the foil-covered cardstock with the new Simon Says Stamp Streaming Heart Die. I colored each of the foil-covered pieces with Copic Markers.
I added a Simon Says Stamp Take Care Die stacked black die cut… covered with Tonic Crystal Glaze. Isn’t the shine of that foil incredible!
#4: FOIL DOTS
A super simple way to add foil details is with a Quickie Glue Pen. For this example, I added tiny dots and let it dry. Even though the adhesive is dry, it is sticky. When I pressed the foil generously on the dots and pulled the backing away, I am left with shiny spots. I again used the Gina K Sparkling Silver Foil . (This technique is great for using foil scraps!)
For the die cut border, I used the Simon Says Stamp Cupid’s Border Die… and the sentiment is from the Simon Say Stamp Best Ever Stamp Set.
Here are a couple more examples using the foil window and foil dot techniques from above. I die cut windows with the Simon Says Stamp Shiny Hearts Die and added Gina K Sparkling Radiant Red Foil to the back. I then added tiny dots with my Quickie Glue Pen before adding gold foil.
