Reverse Die Impressions + Giveaway!

Hi there! I am so very happy to be here celebrating DieCember®! I also have a unique technique for you today that I call reverse die impressions. I hope you like it!

Today’s technique is yet another way to use your wafer thin dies creatively! It works with any dies that are symmetrical, such as snowflakes, circles, hearts, etc. And these new dies from Simon Says Stamp are perfect!

For each card, I used a Spellbinders Embossing Mat and embossed the dies upside down. This causes an impression that is larger than the actual die cut. Then, I adhered the die cut inside the impression. I love the texture! Each card offers a different variation of this technique.

For my first card, I inked the back of a Simon Says Stamp Huge Felicity Snowflake Die and pressed into into a piece of Tim Holtz Watercolor Paper with my die cut machine and Spellbinders Embossing Mat. (I find the texture of the watercolor paper perfect for this technique.) I then added a bit of Gina K Designs Turquoise Sea and Simon Says Stamp Island Blue Ink color to the center of the impression with Sponge Daubers. Finally, I added a white Simon Says Stamp Huge Felicity Snowflake Die Cut to the center along with a sentiment from the Simon Says Stamp Thankful Heart Stamp Set.

Although I show several ways to do this technique, my favorite is to make the impression with Hero Arts Unicorn White Ink. On this example, I used the Simon Says Stamp Huge Felicity Snowflake, Simon Says Stamp Big Joy Snowflake, and Simon Says Stamp Big Bliss Snowflake Dies with the white ink on pool cardstock. It is subtle but makes the impression stands out a bit more with the white ink. I then added the snowflake die cuts cut from Simon Says Stamp White Glitter Paper.

The sentiment is a combination of the Simon Says Stamp Script Hello Die and Let Us Rejoice Stamp Sets. I like that the hello die comes with a die to cut the shadow. Oh – and lots of Lucy’s Cards Ice Cube Jewels!

The card on the right is quite simple. I made the impressions with the snowflake dies and pool ink, and added a “hello” die cut from the Simon Says Stamp Oh Hello There Die.

This is another example of making the reverse die impression with white ink, but this time on a softer color cardstock. The sentiment is from the Simon Says Stamp Script Miss You Dies.

Adding gemstones takes a bit of time, but is worth it!

You can also leave the impressions plain. Here, I impressed the snowflakes – without ink – and then added in Simon Says Stamp Silver Glitter Paper die cuts.

For this next example, I made the snowflake reverse impressions without ink, but then added a bit of color into the impression area with watercolor and Tonic Aqua Shimmer Pens. I then adhered the snowflake die cuts on top once it was completely dry. I highly recommend the Simon Says Stamp Silver Glitter Paper – it looks great die cut for sentiments.

This technique also works great for simple card designs, like I used on these next mini two cards.

After making a reverse impression, I added a glitter snowflake die cut, a sentiment strip and Lucy’s Cards gems. This snowflake is the Simon Says Stamp Big Joy Snowflake Die.

I really like the looks of the Simon Says Stamp Big Bliss Snowflake Die… especially when cut from Simon Says Stamp White Glitter Paper. I used a sentiment from the Simon Says Stamp Thankful Heart Stamp Set.

I wanted to show that this technique works great with heart dies, too. I first made an impression with a Birch Press Caprice Heart Layer Die and Hero Arts Unicorn White Pigment Ink. I then “colored” over the ink with Tonic Aqua Shimmer Pens for shimmer. I finished off the card with the Birch Press Caprice Heart Layer Die Cuts and a “hello” die cut. Lots of shimmer!

This last card is a little bonus. Although it doesn’t use the reverse die impression technique, it uses a paper that is just gorgeous! That background piece is Tonic Freshwater Pearls Hand Crafted Paper. (You can see all the fun textured papers from Tonic HERE.) The sentiment is from the Simon Says Stamp Big Greetings 1 Stamp Set.

I really like how that paper adds texture and shine. So pretty…
