Mirror Stamping and Die Cutting

Hello! I am here today to share a simple way to do both mirror stamping and mirror die cutting. It is simple and gives great results!

Mirror stamping is a wonderful way to get new looks from your stamps. I also feel like having two mirrored images on a card gives a unique, modern look.

My first card features the gorgeous bird image from the Spellbinders Sparrow Stamps and Die Set (SSS | SB). Using the Neat and Tangled Backdrop Stamp (SSS | | EH | N&T), I am able to create a mirror image, too! (Be sure to watch the video on how to do this – it is difficult to explain without the visual. I used my MISTI stamping tool to make the process fail-proof, but I also show how to do the technique with an acrylic block.) I find VersaFine Onyx Black Ink is excellent for this technique… and then I clear heat embossed.

I colored my birdies with Arteza Watercolor Real Brush Pens and Tonic Aqua Shimmer Pens. (I will share more about these products in a future video.) The sentiment is from the Birch Press Just Because Stamp Set and I white heat embossed the Ink Blot Shop Plaid Background Stamp on the background for a bit of subtle texture. Oh – and the Lucy’s Cards Iridescent Jewels are the perfect accents!

My second card uses a feather from the Spellbinders Feathers Stamps and Dies (SSS | SB). I again did mirror stamping and die cutting.

  1. Wow!! That mirror stamping is so clever and something that would really stretch the stamps I already have. LOVE those tropical birds!

  2. Thank you for posting a how to for mirror stamping. You’re always easy to understand so I can’t wait to try this process myself!

  3. Dear Jennifer, thank you for this great video. I would like to ask a question. How do you get the two die cuts so flat? If I die cut an image from the “back side”, like you did here, the edge of the die cut is different on the two die cuts. One has a rounded edge and the other one has a very sharp edge. If you put the two different die cuts side by side, they look very different. How do you prevent this? You seem to have a trick that you did not share on your awesome video. Once again, thank you for what you do.

  4. I am not a card maker, but I’ve been watching your videos and using some of your techniques on my scrapbook pages with great results! Thank you for being a great teacher!!

  5. I’m not really successful with mirror stamping, using paper smooches mirror blocks & versa fine black. But this time, you placed the paper over the image right away, which I haven’t done it yet, so I’ll try that. Twice inking with Versafine, and paper over it… These are the beautiful stamps!

  6. I am amazed with all the ways a card can be stamped. I have stamped for only about a year now but you have given me so much incentive with your tutorials. Thanks.

  7. Lovely card ideas. Love the mirrors stamping and how to die cut as well. I had just done my own and figured the same about the die.. how cool.

  8. Each time you demonstrate that mirror stamping, it seems very easy and your mirror images comes out perfect! I tried this. It took a lot of practice and product combos to finally come up with the cleanest mirror image.

  9. You are the queen of techniques! Whenever I feel creatively challenged, I just head on over to your youtube channel and sure enough I find something interesting. I’ve never tried the mirroring technique before but I’m sure to give it a go. Fingers crossed I don’t screw up.

  10. Absolutely brilliant!! I understood the mirror stamping, but I’m quite sure I would not have figured out the mirror die-cutting any time soon!

  11. What a another amazing video! I am newbie about paper crafting. I have had learned so much by watching your videos. Thank you so much for sharing 🙂

  12. I don’t have a clear background stamp but I do have some big stamps which I could use on the other side for this. I need to give it a go. Beautiful card!

  13. I have a mirror stamp in my stash somewhere but have always just not known exactly what to do with it. Now that I have watched your video I see that not only can I stamp my images but I can also die cut them.
Thank you so much for the fun tips Jennifer!

  14. Absolutely love the feather die – thanks for sharing. I am going to get that for myself- the colors you used are so fabulous.

  15. Beautiful cards. I love the mirror stamping tech. I have a black plain base but never used it because wasn’t sure what to do. I now do and thank you. Great idea on the die being used for reverse stamping. Thanks so much for the video.

  16. Wow Jennifer, again a great video. You do a lot of stretching your craft suplies, I love that. Most of the time I don’t have the things you use but you made me think about what I can use. For example I don’t have the Neat and Tangled Backdrop Stamp but I have a small Gelly Plate, I think that will do. And for my mirror die cutting I can use my light pad to put the die on the other side. I learn so much from you thank you for that!

  17. I love this technique and your colors are beautiful! It’s nice that the one plain stamp can sever so many functions! Thank you for always sharing your talents with us.

  18. That mirror stamping is amazing and I love your colorful stamped images! Thanks for the tips on how to do this technique.

  19. I haven’t heard of the Neat and Tangled BACKDROP Clear Stamp, and it’s good to know there is a product to do this technique so easily. Love the look. TY

  20. Thank you for showing us your mirror technique – I have tried it before but never with any success. But, now I know the trick! I loved how you colored these images, too, and that background stamp and the iridescent gems are great. I think your videos are very well done–clear, concise and very personable–I feel as if you are talking directly to me. Thank you so much!

  21. Gorgeous colours on your mirror images! Thanks for the easy to follow instructions! I love anything that allows you to use what supplies you already have in different ways. Guess I’ll have to purchase the mirror image stamp but it’ll be worth it!

  22. Hi, I have a question. When I stamp using Stayz On and the Paper Smooches stamp, I find that the image shows up well on the stamp but does not transfer well onto the paper. Any suggestions as to why that may be so? Also, the image seems to stay on the paper smooches stamp – how do you clean that? Please advise.
