Caring Hearts Card Drive 2017

Hello! I am excited to share the the Caring Heart Card Drive is underway!

The purpose of our card drive is to collect holiday cards for the elderly that live in nursing homes. Vera Yates started this card drive 8 years ago, in honor of her mom’s request. Last year we received over 66,000 cards and distribute the cards to various nursing homes throughout the US, Canada, Australia and United Kingdom.

Vera and I are excited to continue bringing holiday cheers to many nursing homes.

The holidays are about family, kindness, and joy. During this time, many of the elderly who live in nursing homes feel lonely. Wouldn’t it be great if we brought a smile to their face & brightened their holiday season simply by sharing our love of card making? A simple gesture to let them know that they are not forgotten – that someone still thinking of them.

All you do is make cards. As many as you want and/or have time for. Anything helps! You mail them to us and we mail them out to volunteers who distribute them to nursing homes around the world.

IMPORTANT DETAILS:

Also, if you’d like to help us promote the card drive, please use the hashtag #caringheartscarddrive.

The nursing homes that we supported are based on what people suggested to us. If you want your local nursing homes to receive cards from the card drive, please email Vera or Jennifer the name of the nursing homes and the number of residents, so we can make sure that we send enough cards. Each year, we never know how many nursing homes we can support as the number are totally based on how many cards we received. To keep things organized, we assigned the 6 collecting addresses above.

I’ll update the prize list as more prizes coming in. And huge thank you to all the fabulous, generous companies who support this card drive by donating awesome prizes.

PLATINUM PRIZES (everyone sending 100+ cards will be entered for these prizes)
GOLD PRIZE (everyone who send cards will be entered for these prizes)

We will update the prize list as we get more. Please feel free to share about this card drive. We really appreciate your support & generosity. Let’s rock this card drive and bring Christmas joy to as many nursing homes as we can!! Thank you.

PS: Thank you to Chaitali Narla for designing the badge. 🙂 And to Vera for all her hard work on this card drive!

  2. I’m so excited to see this!! It will be my first chance to participate in anything group-related to card making since I just started in September. My first order of Christmas themed stamps arrived yesterday so now I can hardly stand to wait til after work to get home and get started! I’ve been wondering who I could send cards to, outside of family and friends and this makes me so happy to hopefully put a smile on an elderly person’s face. I think of my grandparents who are all passed and how much I loved and cared for them. The chance to be a kindness for someone even if I don’t know them brings tears to my eyes. Many thanks to everyone organizing this! It’s wonderful for the givers as well as the receivers! You’re all awesome!!!

  3. Oh how I want to participate … too bad we are getting this info so late. I should have been making cards the last month. 🙁 I will have to put it on my calendar for next year to be primed and ready. I hope to have enough time to get some in the mail …. it is such a worthwhile project and I love participating and have for several years.

    1. Same here, I was making cards for the drive but could not find any information if it was on this year so I stopped. Now I wish I didn’t because I only will be able to send some, not as many as I wanted 😔

  4. Thanks Jennifer!!!, Perfect idea and excuse to make Christmas cards with all my love!!!, I will send as soon as possible. Yeahhhh,
    Hugs

  5. Jennifer, you might want to check the link on “Vera Yates” at the beginning of your post. It takes one to the info for the 2016 card drive on another person’s blog. Happy to hear about the card drive— What a wonderful idea.

  6. Jennifer,
I’m sorry but the post says the deadline is November 17 and the Submission Form says the deadline is November 27. I noticed someone posted above that they didn’t have time to participate now so I thought this might help. Also I’m wondering which date is correct.
    Thanks!!

  7. Wow what a fantastic idea! I love the thought of someone lonely getting a beautiful card sent to them!! That really touches my heart!! I would be honored to help out as much as I can. I’m new to card making so I don’t have many supplies, not much for Christmas but it’s the thought that counts and I will try my very best! Thanks not only for sharing this information but also for running this and making it happen.

  8. I am so excited that this is going on this year – just wish I had made some cards already! Disappointed that there is no mailing address for the U.K. this year. What would you like us to do – send to one of the other mailing addresses?
Thanks so much Jennifer and Vera!

  9. I love this caring hearts drive. Although I can’t contribute to this one, I might be able to do something closer to home. This is the second year I’ve made Christmas cards to send to my family and friends. Last year I didn’t have enough, so I started in August this year, and they’re stacking up nicely. If I have left over this year, I think I will take them to the nursing home nearby and see if I can convince the staff to give them to some lonely elderly.

  10. wow…so many great prices! This’s my third years joining this card drive and I’m happy to say ; sent out my cards
last week as I will be busy these coming week. Hope more peoples join this year and got more and more cards.
    Happy crafting everyone.

  11. This awesome. I am so glad to see this & that people are participating in this. It is so sad to visit people in hospitals & nursing homes and hear that so & so down the hall never has visitors or doesn’t get mail. Thank you to all the organizers .

  12. I’ve only recently started following your blog so didn’t know this was coming, but hope I can create some to send…it’s such a worthwhile endeavor and so generous of you and Vera et al to do this. Will you give us a reminder earlier next year? Thanks!

  13. This is such a great effort. Many lonely elderly people with nobody to love on them. I’ll not be participating since I do this for our local nursing home for all the residents. Last year it was 145 or so. Not sure how many this year. Keep up the great work!

  14. I love this card drive. I wish I had more notice to make the cards this year. It is such a wonderful thing for the residents of nursing homes to receive these. I need to put this on my to do list so I can get cards ready through out the year so I can be ready. This year there just isn’t enough time to get them done. Thanks for doing this.

  15. What a wonderful idea! I will definitely send some cards. My mother was the recipient of the kindness of strangers when she was in a nursing home. I will participate in her memory.

  16. Hi Jennifer,
Already making cards. One important question, though: the form I printed off has November 27 as the end date, one of the forms you link to has November 25 as the end date, and above you listed November 17 as the end date. Which one is it so that I get my cards in on time? Thanks, Daria

  17. I have volunteered to deliver to nursing homes for the last 4 or 5 years and I can tell you that these residents are extremely grateful and look forward to our cards every year. Please if you have time, send your cards and then you can sit back and feel really good about yourself. I have seen residents in tears as they are so touched.

  18. Thank you for sharing this! Some friends of mine are going to come over and help me make cards for this. We are so very happy to be part of this.

  19. I’m excited to be participating again this year and a few of my friends have joined in also. This is near and dear to my heart as my Mom is in assisted living and I get to deliver cards to the facility. She and her friends enjoy the cards and comparing where they all came from. It’s a wonderful card drive and reaps great joy.

  20. I love this. My mother is in a nursing home and this is what I do with my cards. I also donate my mini albums and other crafts for their “Country Store.” for each activity they participate in during the month and as game prizes, they get “Fun Bucks” which they can spend at the “Country Store” at the end of the month. The residents just love it. They all line up outside the room where the store is set-up, with their Fun Bucks in hand. My mom tells me every time I visit, she bought a little purse at the store to hold her Fun Bucks. It is also a great way for them to “purchase” gifts for their family and friends. My mother is known as the card lady. If anyone needs a card, they come to her and she hands them out freely.

  21. I loved this last year and made 100 cards! I have decided this year to just do what I can and to have fun with it. So we’ll see how many I get. This is a very rewarding drive to be involved with. Thanks for all the hard work on it everybody!

  22. I was remarking to my friend just yesterday that I hadn’t seen any card drives for Christmas. Thank you so much for doing this! I will be shipping some soon.

  23. I’m shooting for 100 cards this year!! I love this cause!! My step mom is in a nursing home and it’s sad how many people don’t have cards on their tables at the holidays!!

  24. I’ve been in a card making slump for a while and need to get my Christmas cards done. Maybe this, and the snow that’s falling today, will help me to get motivated. Thanks for the reminder about this awesome card drive!

  25. I have a question. I make cards that sell at a gift shop. I automatically put a sticker on the back with my card brand, P.O. Box, town, state and business email. I have a good number of cards I would like to send. The sticker doesn’t have my name or home address. If I try to take the sticker off they tear the card. Can I sign my first name and location and send these to you? I don’t want to send them if you can’t use them because of the sticker, but I would love to share.

  26. Does anyone have any idea how long it takes for a package from Europe to reach US? I would like to make as many cards as possible and I try to estimate when I need to send them so they will be there on time.

  27. I participated last year, and didn’t get as many made as I had hoped. This year, I had surgery in September and worked on cards as I recovered. I have over 100 ready to go to the post office tomorrow! Thanks for promoting and being so involved in this, Jennifer. I know it’s so successful because you have so many generous blog followers!

  28. I would be happy to send some cards to the address in Ottawa Ont. I am from London Ontario. I will get on this ASAP. Congratulations on doing such a wonderful kind gesture.
Do You ever need cards for other occasions??

  29. Such an incredible destination for a hobby we all love!! Nursing homes and our servicemen and women…SO good! Blessed to be a blessing!! Thanks, again, Jennifer for ALL you do to enhance this wonderful world we call Card Making!!

  30. I make and donate cards to several organizations in the U.S. and I am excited to add this one to my list! This is a wonderfully exciting way to share my joy of cardmaking.

  31. Just came upon this information and so excited to participate. My mom lived in a senior building for 10 years before she passed in 2015. Such a beautiful cause. Thank you Jennifer and Vera!! And a big thanks to the sponsors for donating the generous prizes.

  32. Oh no, no europe adress this time? I am 100% sure my cards won’t be in time for any US address.

Oh well… I make more and send them next year. Early.

  33. This is my first time sending cards and this may be a dumb question but do you want the cards in the envelopes? I have wanted to this for a long time and now since both my parents are gone I have time to works on the cards. Thanks.
