Easy Alcohol Ink Backgrounds + Blog Hop + Giveaways
Hello! Today I share fast and easy ways to create bold backgrounds with alcohol ink. This technique is fascinating! I also am part of a blog hop celebrating a great new product release.

I remember using alcohol ink mannnnny years ago when I first started stamping. I would use it to make coasters! Well I have been getting a lot of requests to do a video on them since they are popular in the art world right now. These techniques are easy and addictive. AND there are many more things you can do with them. (But we will have to save those for another video!)
I made a TON of examples in my videos. But the background techniques are pretty much the same on all. Be sure to watch the video to see how! I used Ranger Yupo Paper for all of my examples, along with Ranger Alcohol Inks. I also used a bit of Ranger Alcohol Blending Solution and normal rubbing alcohol.

Let’s look at the examples:
I am simply in love with the new Simon Says Stamp Rejoice and Holy Stars Dies. They are beautiful! I cut the star from Courture Creations 12×12 Glitter Paper and added Studio Katia Silver Foil Crystal accents.
The shimmer vellum I used on all my cards is from the Grafix Vellum Assortment Pad. And I backed all my white cardstock with Couture Creations Double Sided Adhesive before die cutting. I am really liking this adhesive!
These next cards are similar, but use the Simon Says Stamp O Holy Night Die. Those bold backgrounds go nicely with these die cuts.
Sometimes simple is best! Here, I die cut the Simon Says Stamp Wise Men Still Seek Him Die from white Courture Creations 12×12 Glitter Paper and added the words onto vellum… and then the card.
This next card features the Simon Says Stamp Bare Tree Oval Die and SSS / Gina K We Can Do This Stamp Set. 100% of the SALES of the We Can Do This Stamp Sets go to hurricane relief. AMAZING. (More on that stamp set in a few days!)
The new Simon Says Stamp Stained Glass Stamp Set is very detailed, so I decided to keep the rest of these next two cards simple…
Check out that bold background. Wow. Effortless to make, too!
I am also crazy about the new Simon Says Stamp Fa La La Stamp Set and Die Set. I like how it fills a card nicely.
This next card is smaller – 3.5″x 5.5″ – and has the fa la la die cut hanging off the edge. It will still fit in a normal envelope nicely…
What is the saying? “Go bold or go home?” I guess you could say that about some of these backgrounds!
You can also heat emboss on alcohol ink backgrounds, but be careful not use too much heat. The new Simon Says Stamp Center Cut Background Stamp was something I begged Kristina Werner to design. You can take the center out of it! So cool – she nailed it!
This simple and sweet sentiment is from the new Simon Says Stamp Merry and Bright Stamp Set.
And last but not least, the rainbow background that I decided to leave as is. Swoon!
By the way, I am sure folks will ask which alcohol inks are my favorite. Really, it depends on the colors you are drawn to. But here are the ones I used a lot in the video. Keep in mind these are mostly bold colors:
- Patina
- Silver and Gold Mixatives (a must!)
- Mermaid
- Botanical
- Stream
- Flamingo (bright pink!)
- Amethyst
