Creating a window with a die is an easy way to add dimension to your card. And today I step this up by adding a sparkly backdrop in three different ways.

My first example shows a sequin-covered backdrop. I first created a background of balloons using Distress Oxide Inks, the new Neat and Tangled Balloon Duo Stencils, and a Mini Ink Blending Tool. For strings, I used a subtle-but-sparkly Sakura Stardust Glitter Pen. The window is die cut from the “hooray” shadow die from the Neat and Tangled Hooray Dies Set. I covered the area behind the die cut window with a Be Creative Adhesive Sheet and lots of Neat and Tangled Like Magic Sequins. Swoon! A black hooray die cut covered with a few layers of clear embossing is adhered on top of the sequins.

For the second card, I created my own glitter paper backdrop for the “hooray” die cut window. Tonic Moonstone Nuvo Glimmer Paste is perfect for lots of glitter – just spread it out over any color of cardstock. (I used white.) I added the DIY glitter paper behind the Neat and Tangled Hooray Die Cut window. I also added uber cute images from the new Neat and Tangled Wild Ones Stamps Set and a stamped sentiment from the Neat and Tangled Itty Bitty Welcoming Committee Stamp Set.

My final card is the quickest to create – I just added store bought glitter paper behind the window. This pink glitter paper is adhesive backed… from the DCWV Brights Glitter And Foil Washi 6×6 Stack. I also added more Neat and Tangled Wild Ones Stampd images and Neat and Tangled Like Magic Sequins.

This Neat and Tangled Hooray Die Set is great. I am a fan of word dies that come with the matching shadow dies! And those layers of clear embossing on the “hooray” are worth the effort…

I hope you will give these sparkly techniques a try. They work with any die cut window. Use what you have!

  1. I loved watching you make these cards! They are so colorful and fun and the Neat & Tangled animals are so cute. Once again you showed me new ways to do some things when making a card. Thank you for a great card mob of example cards.

  2. Such a great idea Jennifer, love the shine! That giraffe is just too cute! Fun products from Neat and Tangled. I love using sequins on cards. I like that they lay flatter than pearls and add some shine from the facets.

  3. All 3 cards are so Cute! The background of balloon is my favorite. But I love giraffes, so that is my favorite card! Thanks for all the new techniques.

  4. I love using sequins, have jars and jars of them. I was going to say that doing what you did with them would need a lot of patience but I imagine it’s actually quite therapeutic, especially if you have a sticky thing to pick them us with. Might just have to give that a go!

  5. Thanks for another great video, Jennifer!
(To answer your question, I actually don’t like using sequins on cards… but sparkle and shimmer can be fun.)

  6. Oh, Jennifer–I just love these cards! The cut-outs are so beautiful and the little critters are adorable! Thank you so much for sharing! And…yes, I love sequins on cards! I love shaker cards and sometimes just using them as a final touch of shine–I have half a drawer full of them! I have an old pharmacy cabinet for many of my supplies and half a drawer is still a lot of space for my sequins!

  7. Super fun cards! I do like to use sequins, but I could use them in more creative ways — thanks for the ideas! Happy BD Neat & Tangled!

  8. Such fun ways to add some sparkle to your cards, Jennifer. Love the look of those new sequins. I love to use sequins as a finishing touch or to put them in shakers.

  9. as a newbie i have had a lot of fun trying to follow your techniques. of course, i need a lot more practice but your “favorites” option on this website is so helpful. i have bought many of the products you have recommended and my family has wondered at my “abilities” when it’s your techniques and the ability to follow them over and over that is the secret. Sequins? love em! have a whole box of them now to “shower” friends and family with!

  10. Love what you do with sequins Jennifer, and although I do have some I’m still very much in the learning stages of how to use them without going overboard!!

  11. These cards are so fun! The giraffe and monkey are adorable 🙂 I love sequins, and have used them in shaker pockets, but I haven’t used any on my cards yet.

  12. I have not yet used sequins, however I love what you did and I was at a Stamp Junkies event were we received some sequins and I’m going to try the technique you just showed us. Thanks.

  13. Oh my gosh, your cards are the bomb! I love the one with the balloons! I love colors and I love balloons even though I am not a kid anymore and I love sequins and this card has them all. That calligraphy is so amazing! I learned calligraphy in high school art class but I was not good at it. My comp teacher loved my handwriting but he hated the ‘donut holes’ over my I’s. I put a circle over my I’s. You know, sequins are so big right now but I don’t remember how many years ago I bought a huge plastic jar of sequins from Oriental Trading. A lot of them are green and red and look like Christmas and they aren’t all round and sequinty looking. I’ll show you what some of them look like in an e-mail. I love them!
I love the monkey but I really, really love the giraffe! I’m only 4’6″ tall so when I met a giraffe at a zoo I remember thinking how tall he was and thinking how beautiful he was. This one is so cute like he’s a baby giraffe. If I win and I get this set which I would love to have, I would make his spots different colors! How cool would that be? I might even make some with glitter! Oh, I can just see it now! Mine will be the first colorful, sparkly giraffe in the world! Will I get a prize for that? I should. Thanks for showing us you’re amazing cards and for giving us the chance to win something. Love you Jen!

  14. I have used sequins and have started a little collection of them. I love your videos, especially the balloon one…..it is so beautiful. Thank you for sharing all of your wonderful ideas 🙂

  15. Oh my goodness..I LOVE sequins. I’ve been using them for years now, and long before they became popular on cards. As a result of that I have an enormous stash…however that hasn’t stopped me from purchasing more. Is it just me, or are they making even more colors with various (lovely) finishes on them now? Once again your cards and techniques got me excited about stamping even though I should be going to sleep now. I’ll try to only set up and create a couple of cards, however knowing how it goes for me it will be 3am before I cave and try for a few hours of sleep. Ah, the joys of crafting! Thank you again!! (I’m TRYING to resist clicking on ANY of your product/store links right now as I’ve managed to spend QUITE enough over the past 24 hours after reading your blog and watching your videos!) <—who am I kidding..in less than 48 hours I'm certain that I'll find myself picking up a few more items that I just "must have". LOL

  16. Thank you for always sharing such great tips and techniques with us! You are amazing! HAPPY BIRTHDAY Neat and Tangled!!!

  17. Loving this new blog hop! I started with Kristina Werner’s blog and hopping all over. Learning so much at each site. Love, love, LOVE the new products!

  18. Wow – a seriously cool way to add some bling and fantastic detail to a card. I love the glitter in the die cut window, then with the shiny sentiment in front. That really makes for a stand out card!

  19. Always love to watch Jennifer’s videos; I learn so much. All of her Cards are precious. The monkey and giraffe–come on heartbreakers they’re so cute! And the Hooray shaker, brilliant! Cudos Jennifer!
