Stencils are a great tool to use on cards since they have a low price point and can be used for many great techniques. Today I show a “magic” technique that can be done with several types of inks.

Distress Oxide Inks and Distress Inks react when they come in contact with water. You can apply the inks to white cardstock and then “stamp” with a water-misted stencil. Wherever the water touches, the paper because lighter and velvety looking. For this card, I used the Hero Arts Abstract Waves Stencil. The mermaid and die cuts are from the Hero Arts May My Monthly Hero Kit and the sentiment is from the Hero Arts Color Layering Goldfish Stamp Set.

The background on this next example was created by applying Hero Arts Antigua Shadow Ink and Hero Arts Navy Shadow Ink to white cardstock and then inking over a stencil with VersaMark Ink. This fabulous stencil is also from the Hero Arts May My Monthly Hero Kit. The sentiment? It’s from the Hero Arts You’re So Lovely Stamp Set.

I had *such* fun with the supplies in this kit! Those dies are very detailed and gorgeous.

Using the same technique, I created this background to go behind the Hero Arts Reef Border and Frame Die. The sentiment is from the Hero Arts Many Everyday Messages Stamp Set.

This card was surprisingly quick to make… thanks to the fabulous Hero Arts Reef Border and Frame Dies.

The Hero Arts May My Monthly Hero Kit also includes several lovely specialty papers. Since I had my supplies out, I decided to make a few bonus cards. Using the same design, I used the papers as a background.
