Cardmaking With Felt

Hello. My name is Jennifer and I am a felt addict. I can’t get enough of it! I normally use it to stitch fun flowers and such, but decided to use it for card making today.

Felt is inexpensive and has wonderful texture. So why not use it on cards? In my video I share tips for die cutting felt and using it for creating cute critters. I created this video weeks ago… glad to finally share it!

I started by creating this card for my favorite friend, Kristina. (She has two grey kitties.) Aren’t they the cutest? I started by adding Stick It Adhesive to the back of all of my felt pieces. Before I die cut them, I smooched the adhesive onto the felt by running it through my die cut machine. I then die cut all the kitty pieces with the Paper Smooches Cat and Dog Card Die Set. Such a clever product!

I added stitching for the whiskers, touches of Copic Marker for shading, Your Next Stamp Black Licorice Glittered Gumdrops for eyes, and a Paper Smooches Huge Hugs 2 Stamp Set sentiment. After it was all placed together, I again squished it with my die cut machine. This guarantees the adhesive holds tight!

I really like hand stitching. So I added simple stitching to this felt bunny before adding it to the card. I created the bunny with the Paper Smooches Bunny Card Die Set and stamped the inside with “you are somebunny special” from the Paper Smooches Critter Card Puns Stamp Set. The card’s background was stamped with the beautiful Simon Says Stamp Flora Stamp.

That bunny just melts me! If you don’t have felt, you could also create this card with other fabric or cardstock.

A winking pig? Yes, please!

I also added stitching to the pig I created with the Paper Smooches Cat and Dog Card and Paper Smooches Bear Frog Card Die Sets. I love that you can use these die sets for pigs, cats, dogs, owls, frogs, and more! The sentiment on this card is from the Paper Smooches Critter Card Puns Stamp Set.

And finally, I created a mini card held by a panda! This card features the _Paper Smooches Bear Frog Card Die Set and Paper Smooches Huge Hugs 2 Stamp Set.

Hope you have a good week!

  1. So adorable! My fav is the panda and next the pig!! SO cute. I was thinking/wondering how it would look using fun foam instead of felt?! I started my crafting journey with crewel (remember that??) and then eventually switched over to counted cross stitch! Recently picked up some felt to use on cards. Thanks for the reminder to bring it out for play!!!

  2. These are so adorable and how excited Kristina will be to receive the card with her kitties featured 🙂 Brilliant!

  3. Such a cute idea! The texture of the felt is great for kid’s cards. Thanks for the tips for adhering the felt to cards and for the inspiration!

  4. I LOVE using felt on cards. Made one with a stitched on background to look like the sea for some mermaids. Think it was one of my first videos last year. It’s so nice to have something to touch when it come so in the post – reminds me of that fuzzy felt! These are adorable – that winking pig is so cute. Thank you for all you do to keep us trying new things! Xx

  5. Thanks Jennifer. You really inspire me.
Please consider an Online Card Class using felt, fabric, sewing, embroidery, etc. I will be the first to register.

  6. These cards are absolutely adorable and what child or adult wouldn’t be thrilled with one. Love watching your videos, I learn so much from you. Thank you for your time and talent..

  7. Oh my these cards are so adorably sweet, love, love, love them! Thanks for sharing the “how to and hints and tips”. Have a most marvellous day. Cheers Donna Z 🙂

  8. Most adorable. I’m reading above one of your followers started with crewel, went to cross stitch, etc., and I did the same. Then I became addicted to stamping – and I still love stamping, even though i have Explores and a Cameo. I haven’t worked with felt – yet.

  9. Adorable. And the two grey kitties totally look like Sophie & Daphne (Kristina’s cats)

  10. Hi Jennifer ~ These are an overload of cuteness!! Absolutely love them all, but especially the pig. As an adult I also started out with x-stitch but spent many days crafting away as a child with my Aunt Mary….beads, sequins…paint and all kinds of other goodies. These could become an addiction (and I even already have felt!). I think my faux grandbabies will love these projects. Thanks so much for sharing all this cleverness and I hope you’re enjoying your weekend. ~HUGS~

  11. I’m a cat lover so you know which felt card I like. ? Also, my husband was asking what I was watching and I said a Jennifer Mcguire video. He knows what your videos are all about. But to be funny he said, “is that a sequel to Jerry Mcguire?” I responded by saying “show me the card stock!!!” ? Love your work and videos!

  12. thanks for the ideas.
I just bough some t felts during last weekends sale at SSS.
Now I have some more ideas for using them.
    The animals are darling.

  13. Oh my…cuteness galore! It’s a tough pick, but I think I’ll go with the pig! I can’t wait to get my dies for this. Thanks Jennifer!

  14. Tell your friends “Thank You” for encouraging you to share this in a video!! I can see doing this with my students in class. They will love this. I loving sharing every Sunday morning with you!!! You never disappoint!

  15. I never used Stick-It. I just use 2″ Scor-tape . I wonder if there’s a meaningful difference between them? Cute cards…they would be especially perfect for kids 🙂

  16. Wondering if you would share the brand and color of the nail polish you are wearing in the video. In my option it’s the perfect color.
    Thank you.

  17. I love how these look! I never would have thought to do this with felt. I have some but it’s for some wooden purses I stamped on that kept sticking when I closed them. The felt kept them from sticking. I like this idea though and the kitties are so adorable! What a nice job you did! I love them all!

  18. I have never been a fan of felt; but, these cards are so cute that I need to buy felt. Thanks for the ideas.

  19. I love using felt on my cards but never thought to use Stick It to adhere it. Thanks for the tip! And those cards are absolutely adorable!!

  20. All of your cards are SO cute! There’s no way I could pick just one as my favorite. I fell in love with the pig when I first saw it on the Paper Smooches blog.. It’s the sole reason I purchased the dies. You can’t go wrong with these dies as there are so many possibilities. Or, as you like to say “a lot of bang for your buck”. Thanks for sharing.
