Split Coloring (2-For-1 Cards)

Welcome! Today I show how you can two-cards-for-one with a split coloring technique. This one works well with almost any stamps that calls for coloring.

I need to start out by saying that Dawn Woleslagle – the owner of WPlus9 – is one of the most talented people I know… and one of the kindest. Every time I use her products I feel honored to be doing so. I adore her. (I share this because I think it is good to know that good people are being these good products!)

The large floral image in the new WPlus9 Kind Soul Stamp Set is gorgeous and screams for beautiful coloring! I am not the best at coloring, but I took a stab at it with my Copics on Strathmore Bristol Smooth Paper. I also clear heat embossed the same image on Gina K. Peach Bellini Cardstock (SO pretty) and then cut both of the pieces in the same place. Now I have pieces for two split-colored cards…

I also added that oh-so-perfect sentiment – also from the same WPlus9 Kind Soul Stamp set – on a black strip between the stamped pieces. The “hello” is also from WPlus9 and I cut it from gold cardstock.

Ahhhhhh… that stamp is incredible!!!

I am a big fan of techniques that result in more than one card. I have done a similar technique several times in the past… be sure to check out THIS video.

Oh and I promise those peach flowers match the cardstock in real life. The photo isn’t the best. Sorry!

At the end of the video I shared a quick look at the other new WPlus9 products. You can find them at Simon Says Stamp or WPlus9. Hope this was helpful!

  1. Great video! I love the cards and the G.K. peach bellini card stock. . What envelope did you use that matches it so well?

    Thank you!

  2. You never disappoint with your awesome videos – such a lovely card. Thanks as always for teaching us how to be better card makers and get the most out of our hordes of supplies!!!

  3. Even though you say you are not great in Copic coloring, I still think you are. The stamp set is beautiful and so are the colors you used. The peach is a lovely color.

  4. These are two beautiful cards. I love the idea of stretching one session into two or more cards! My cards take forever to create, but I don’t mind, since the process is so much fun!! Thanks, also for the coloring ideas. I am trying to build triad colors to use for flowers, and this video really helps. ♥

  5. Dawn is an amazing talent and I love her designs and her how-to videos! Your cards are great and a fun “two -for-one” idea. I’ll remember this technique when I need to create several cards in a short period of time.

  6. Love , love this technique …going to give it a try for sure, but will have to substitute
different stamps, even though I just love the stamp set that you used (not in budget this month)
Card is just gorgeous. Thanks so sharing and inspiring all of us.

  7. That split stamping with the flowers was awesome and what a beautiful card. You make it look so easy. Those are some “classy” items that you used and showed. Like the layering flowers, they look so delicate and real stamped. Thank you for your time in preparing the tutorial as it was extremely helpful.

  8. I love how honest you are 🙂 Sometimes it’s easy to think our craft heroes are perfect crafters and then get discouraged when our efforts are less than perfect. I always think of Stick It way too late. Same with my embossing powder tool. I was going to type a label for my Versamark that says “STOP! Powder tool!”

  9. What a beautiful stamp and the lovely peach card stock makes for one lovely project. I must try and remember this technique to try. Thanks for sharing.

  10. I love that you give ideas on how to use the stamps you introduce in your videos. You have a great sharing spirit.
Thank you for showing us this cool technique.

  11. Beautiful cards and a great way to use your stamps in a different way. Great video. Thanks for sharing.

  12. These cards are just gorgeous! What a wonderful technique. Will have to give it a try.
And that stamp?!?!! OMGoodness, that is amazing, absolutely love it. Thanks for sharing this with us.

  13. What a clever idea in splitting an image to create 2 cards, these cards are gorgeous Jennifer……and the new stamp from Wplus9 “be still my beating heart!” is awesome. Thanks for sharing. Have a fabulous day. Cheers Donna Z 🙂

  14. Wow! Those cards are just Beautiful! I need to get out some floral stamps and try to color. What a great sentiment.

  15. Love these cards and this technique Jennifer!! Don’t under estimate your coloring skills! The colors are perfect and beautiful on these cards and you did an awesome job! Thanks for another valuable and inspiring video! I watch them over and over again!

  16. Oh my gosh, how can you say you’re not good at coloring? That’s like saying Gene Kelly was not a very good dancer. These cards show how good you are at coloring. I love that peach color, it’s so pretty. I love how you used the same stamps but made 2 different cards. I love when you can do that. I have to do that more often with all the stamps I have. My problem is I love the big sheets of paper and I love to be able to buy each sheet separately like they sell at Michaels. 2 times I bought packs of paper and I though I saw all the paper in the packs and then I got paper I still haven’t used yet because I don’t really like them. When you can buy them by the sheet, then you get exactly what you want. I also like the big sheets. More room to play on. When I dance I need the whole stage because that’s the way I dance, big and over the top. The same with my card making. I wish more places had big sheets of colorful paper with designs or without, by the sheet. I love both cards very much!

  17. Great tutorial. You come up with the most amazing ideas. Love how you get 2 for the work of one 🙂
