Second Generation Stamp Layering + Giveaway

Hello. I am so very excited about today’s technique and hope you like it! I used second generation stamping with my stamp layering stamp sets for a bold card and a soft card. I have several examples for you, along with a blog hop and giveaway.

Ahhhh… I love any technique that allows me to easily create two cards at once! And this second generation with stamp layering is fun! On one card, you stamp the layers as you normally would and get a bold card. On the second, you stamp again with out reinking (“second generation”) and get a soft card.

My first examples feature the oh-so-incredibly-realistic-and-lovely Hero Arts Color Layering Poppy Stamp Set. I stamped the flowers on the left card first, and used the second generation on the card on the right. (Colors used: Hero Arts Crimson Hybrid, Hero Arts Pale Tomato Mid Tone Shadow, Hero Arts Red Royal Mid Tone Shadow Hero Arts Moss HybridHero Arts Pine Hybrid, and Hero Arts Cup O Joe Mid Tone Shadow Inks.)

You can somewhat see the shimmer from the Clear Spectrum Noir Sparkle Pen in this next photo. I gold heat embossed a sentiment from the Hero Arts Thank You Messages Stamp Set and added the panel to a card I inked with the Hero Arts Honeycomb Stencil, Hero Arts Cup O Joe Mid Tone Shadow Ink, and Mini Ink Blending Tool.

Next up? The amazing Hero Arts Color Layering Peacock Stamp Set! You can see the first generation on the left and second generation on the right. I also added some stenciling on the left card with the Hero Arts Peacock Feather Stencil, Hero Arts Aegean Hybrid Bold Ink, and Claritystamp Brushes. (The touches of yellow? That was added with the back of a swirl stamp from the Hero Arts Color Layering Peacock Stamp Set.)

I can’t get over how real that peacock looks. (Colors used: Hero Arts Cornflower Mid Tone Shadow, Hero Arts Deep Ocean Hybrid, Hero Arts Charcoal Mid Tone ShadowHero Arts Aegean Hybrid Bold, and Hero Arts Butter Bar Mid tone Shadow Inks.)

And finally, the Hero Arts Color Layering Koi Stamps – another popular one from this release! You can see the two generations here… with notecards created by double inking the Hero Arts Crossing Waves Stencil. The sentiment is from the Hero Arts Color Layering Goldfish Stamp Set.

I added little bubbles with Tonic Nuvo Jewel Drops. This product is clear with a soft tint of blue. I also sprinkled on some Tonic Ice White Nuvo Glitter for shine. (Colors used: Hero Arts Soft Vanilla ShadowHero Arts Soft Apricot Shadow, and Hero Arts Tangerine Hybrid Ink.)

  1. My sisters craft business is called theproudpeacock.com and when it’s her birthday, I usually make her a card with a peacock on it. This stamp set would be so perfect for her! Now if there was some way to make something huge with this stamp set for her booth at The Big E (the 5th largest fair in the country for those who don’t know) she would be ecstatic! She bought a shed that she now owns and this stamp set would look amazing somewhere on this shed to advertise for her business. You don’t see many peacock stamps and this one is exceptional! I want it! LOL
I like the pretty poppy flowers and the koi fish are stunning and look real, just like the peacock. Your work is always amazing, as usual, and I’m glad we get the chance to win something. Off to my next person on the hop! Can you see my legs and feet hopping? LOL

  2. These cards are so pretty <3 The poppy stamp set is my favourite, just imagine it going with all the different colours on all sorts of cards 🙂

  3. Oooo you are my hero! Love the second generation technique! It’s very hard to pick a favorite stamp set! I think the poppy set is barely my favorite as I love them all! Good job Jennifer!

  4. Love the layering! Like the poppy set the best. Also loved the background techniques used on the other 2 cards. Very nice touch.

  5. Jennifer, I am a HUGE fan, and for so many reasons!!! I love your videos, and I appreciate so much all that I learn from you by watching them–thank you!!! I appreciate all of the fantastic products and various companies that you have introduced to me–my pocket book might not thank you quite as much! Seriously though, you have introduced me to so many wonderful companies that I might not even know otherwise, and I appreciate that. I knew of Hero Arts before of course, but I have become through you one HUGE admirer of what Hero Arts creates, especially their My Monthly Hero kits, oh my those are FANTASTIC!!! My favorite right now of the new layering sets is the hydrangea, I want to buy the whole set including stamps, dies, and inks when it’s back in stock at SSS (much easier to have products shipped to me in Canada through SSS, although I do order at Hero Arts when I’m buying a monthly kit if it’s one that appeals to me–I have the floral one with the wooden stamp and matching layering dies (WISHING with all of my heart that I’d found these kits a month earlier to get the one Marianne created for floral coloring, oh my!!! I live in HOPE that SOMEDAY I might find that kit and buy it. Oh well, I can dream?! 🙂 ), the thank you kit with the envelope die, the wreath kit, the snowglobe kit, the 3-D ornament kit, and finally the rain kit of February. So I have 6!!! 🙂

My favorite of your cards is the poppy cards, love the two generation stamping too to produce two cards–wow, you are just so smart!!! But they are all lovely, and even though I never thought I’d want a peacock stamp set, that one really tempts me, which is all about how wonderful Hero Arts has made that set/kit. My second place though would be the fish one, I don’t have any fish stamps or dies, and I think someday I need to get this one, what could be better for a fish set!

Thanks again for all that you bring to my crafting, and I also love that you introduce me to all kinds of faith-based sentiment stamps and bible verse stamps that I can use for cards for family and friends.

  6. Finally watched a tutorial for layered stamping that makes sense. Simple, easy & really lovely.
Thank you for sharing the video & skills. I would love to try the technique with the serene koi stamps.

  7. Thank you for your continued inspiration in creating your cards! You make it seem so easy! My favorite is the koi layering stamp set. I’ve always liked the Asian symbolism of koi as luck, prosperity and good fortune. My second favorite would be the layering poppy set!

  8. I enjoy watching you always. you always give me such good ideas.
I will try this technique the next time that I am able to get inky.
    thank you!

  9. What a great idea to make two cards at once! I will admit I’m a little intimidated by the layering stamp sets. But would love to get some and have a play. My favorite is the peacock. Thank you for inspiration and the chance to win!

  10. The Koi stamps are my favorite of the ones used. As a matter of fact I just recently looked up a 3-D pop-up card with a fish in the middle for my brother’s birthday so I’m definitely in a “fishy” mood! I love the technique you used today. I would have never thought to use “2nd generation” stamping to make a softer looking and thus “more elegant” card. Great idea and beautiful results!

  11. If I really had to pick a favorite I would probably go with the poppy. Your cards look great with the first and second generation stamping. I love the look of the honeycomb on kraft!

  12. Hi Jennifer, I am new to your blog and am blown away with your work. These cards are so beautiful and realistic… I am a bit confused .. for poppy card you say the white layer is 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 .. these are the same measurements as the base card.. how did you get the white layer to look so much smaller than the kraft base card…

  13. I am in love with the poppy layering set! I am afraid I would never be able to do it justice. But, practice makes perfect, right?! 🙂

  14. Wow, even the second generation stamping of the poppy flower is still crisp and very detailed. It’s one of my favorites and it’s sold out or in back order mostly.

  15. The peacock set is probably my favorite because you don’t see peacocks in stamps sets that often. But honestly I like all of them with this technique. It is just beautiful!

  16. These inks are fabulous! I love the creamy, chalk like velvet result. Thank you for your demonstration and the opportunity to be a winner

  17. Such sweet comments above, and they’re all true. Jennifer, you are definitely an inspiration! My favorite layering stamp set is the Hero Arts Color Layering Peacock. It’s perfect with the ombre sequins – just the right touch of bling 🙂

  18. I am in love with the koi set! My mom has a koi pond in her atrium right outside her kitchen. It is so relaxing to watch them swim around and come up to the edge for food.

  19. Boy, what a fun technique. I’ve been watching your videos on tv thru Roku today. Since you already get the supplies out, might as well make the 2nd gen cards, right? Thank you for the pretty ideas!!!

  20. Bring Asian I love the koi. Tried to buy it and it was sold out?I also love the peacock. Ur cards remind me of the kois, and peacocks we have here in Hawaii.
