Be sure to watch the video to see this “on-the-edge stamping” technique in action. It is fun and works with many types of stamps. I silver heat embossed the flowers from the Altenew Best Mom Stamp Set along the front edge of a card and the inside edge. (This makes sense in a minute.)

Next I did some coloring with the new Altenew Artist Markers. This is my first experience using these alcohol-based markers and wanted to share that with you. I will share more with them in the future. (See below.)

On one set of flowers, I used a dot coloring method and on the other I did basic blending. The markers worked great!

Next I cut the front of the card along the edge of the flowers. This results in a card with a fun cut border. And, I can use the border piece on a second card! (That is why I stamped the same images in the same spots on the inside and outside of the card.)

I added two sentiments – “hello sunshine” and “you are an inspiration” to keep the cards simple.

BLOG HOP

Today’s post is part of a blog hop celebrating the release of the new Altenew Alcohol Markers!

The Altenew Artist Markers are alcohol-based, allowing you to beautifully blend colors to any stamped images. The best perk of these markers is that they come in great color combos… taking the guesswork out of it all! The pens also match the Altenew ink colors.

The markers are alcohol-based (similar to Copics, which many people are familiar with) and have a brush tip and fine tip. They just released the Altenew Artist Marker Set A which includes 4 shades of pink/red, 4 shades of pool/blue, and 4 shades of green (including black). The set of 12 markers is $44.99 – so each marker is about $3.75 – a great price for alcohol markers.

I know many people will wonder if this is a good alternative to Copics. I found they work nicely and I LOVE the color combos. And that they have the inks that match. I am sure I will be using both! I do recommend getting a Copic Colorless Blender pen to use with them.

You can find the markers (along with more info on them) HERE.

So the next stop on the hop is the blog of Svitlana Shayevich. You can always start at the beginning of the hop at the Altenew Blog.

  7. Your cards are beautiful <3 I haven't worked with Altenew stamps yet, but I love the detail you get from them. My favorite coloring medium seems to change with my mind's idea of where my talent might lie, lol. Some days I think I'm better with Copics. Other days, my Prismacolor pencils are my friend. Objectively, I'm probably equally skille in both. Thanks for you inspiration.

It’s fun to see what works best with the results we are wanting to achieve. Your cards are just beautiful Jennifer, and I am absolutely going to try this! Love this set of Altenew markers and the fact that they take the guesswork out of the colors that blend best together! Excited to get hopping on this blog this morning! It’s my birthday and I see some shopping in my future! 🙂

  19. I hope I’m not repeating myself, but I love these cards! Also, in general I love your blog & Youtube videos! You have great ideas on cards, supplies, & organization! I’m just getting back into card making, & feel I get private lessons from you. I like that you have involved cards, but offer quicker ways to get similar results. I don’t have that much time to devote to it right now, so I really appreciate that. Most of the cards you make are worthy of hanging up-I may just do that some time! God bless you!

  20. I ordered my Altenew markers yesterday and I can’t wait because I haven’t invested in markers yet. My Altenew ink pads are my favorite color medium. Thank you for showing how to make those delightful cards and envelopes!

  21. I love your videos and style. Thanks for the tip about embossing after you color. My favorite coloring technique is using markers or layering with paper / mixed media. My daughter loves coloring with bleach.

  22. I love the water coloring look. You make alcohol markers look so easy to use- I think I need more practice- I have many Spectrum Noir but never look close to looking good. I love the ease of the Altenew and the color matching that they use.

  25. i loved the Atlenew markers so much that i have purchased the set and looking forward to seeing more colors added to my collection .my favorite part was knowing the the marker and the ink pad match !thank you for inspiring me to continuing making cards.

  26. I love using comics, however I’m really interested in these markers. I love the color families! Beautiful card!

  27. My current favorite coloring medium is my Spectrum Noir markers, followed by Prismacolors and Zig Clean Color markers. I’m still trying to figure out the Zigs. I really like that the Altenew markers match their inks. I’m thinking I need to try them!

  28. I’ve been wanting to try alcohol markers, but just haven’t been able to make that initial investment to get me started yet. Right now I’m using an old at of prismacolor pencils we had floating around from the artists in the family.

I went into michaels to get something my sister needed last week, and they have the spectrum noir illustrator markers – they seem to be a lot like these, with a brush tip and a small detail tip. Refillable with the standard spectrum noir inks, though they don’t come in the same shade families the standard spectrum noir do.

  29. Thank you so very much for this demo on the new markers. I have been thinking of getting some but have been hesitant, but these seem so easy to use with the color families. I use watercolors now and also watercolor pencils but am definitely considering these. Thank you for inspiring me.
