UPDATED: Easy Ombre Backgrounds – Lots of Cards! + GIVEAWAY

UPDATE: My apologies! I am having a rough day. Between some technical difficulties and a few goofs of my own, I decided to redo today’s video and post. I am sorry for the multiple emails and confusion. As an apology I have added a HUGE giveaway! Let’s try this again… 🙂

Hi there! Today I am sharing a video I started many months ago. Finally! It focuses on an easy way to do ombre backgrounds… and I have lots of examples…

Ahhhhhh… I love to make lots of cards with lots of fun products! It definitely makes me happy. Today I made a huge stack of cards… all with the same technique and design.

In my video, I show how to create easy ombre backgrounds with Clarity Brushes and Mini Ink Blending Tools. You don’t need both to create a this look, but it does give faster results. I also think the best results happen when using Distress Inks since they blend so well.

I also show a fast way to create dimensional word die cuts. I can’t recommend Stick It Adhesive Sheets enough! OH – and adding Judikins Iridescent Sparkle Embossing Powder on top of the die cut makes it sparkle and shine so much…

Since I made so many cards with so many different products (sorry – I was having fun!), I thought it would help to share photos and product links here. Keep in mind that at the end of this post I link to several stores in case one is out of stock. Click the product name for more details.

  1. love all the rainbow colour…i love distress ink, only have 8 mini now and love to have more to play around with it……
it’s very hard to choice just one colour; I would say love the bright colour; like the one in the rainbow.
    Bright colour make me happy:)
    thanks for sharing.

  2. As always, so grateful for you sharing your time and talent with us! I don’t have many inks to play with, even though I’ve amassed a sizable collection of stamps somehow! I still mostly craft with onyx black (per the first “my favorite crafty things” video of yours that got me started on this fun hobby. I would love to own some distress ink – especially the shaded lilac and seedless preserve! Really liking the purples on those ombré cards you made.

  3. Thanks so much for everything you share. For someone like me with a very stressful job, your YouTube channel and blog are great tranquilizers for me throughout the day. My favorite color is any variation of purple. Thanks again!!!

  4. My favorite color to craft with is light teal or pool type colors. And my craft room is painted that color. Funny because when people ask my favorite color, I say orange!

  5. This is such a great idea, this way I could have lots of cards on hand for times I don’t have time to make one on the spot. My favorite colours are Wilted Violet, Mermaid Lagoon and Picked Raspberry, but if I had to pick just one I guess Wilted Violet, it matches my hair, 🙂 Thank you do much for your post and video! You rock!

  6. Wow, I am speechless… I love all the wonderful colors you have used and would love to win!! My fav color to kraft with would have to be purple – love the color so much!!!!

  7. Jennifer you never cease to amaze me. You are so talented and I truly appreciate you sharing with us. My favorite colors to craft with are anything in the blues family. I picture the Caribbean Isles and all the colors of the ocean. These colors are so peaceful and calming and relaxing I think that that’s why people would like getting cards with those be colors.

  8. What a delightful set of cards!!! I never come here without getting a fab idea!!
I like using gold with anything! Aquas, purples, pastels… those are the colors I love most.

  9. I love to craft with deep red colors. It’s such a great color pop when you open the envelop to view the card.

  10. I’ve always been a person drawn to blacks, reds and whites, and one to shy away from oranges, yellows, greens and browns. In the DistressInk palette my go-to colour surprisingly is Scattered Straw-no-idea, but it is.
Thank you Jennifer for the wonderful tutorials.

  11. I always describe my favorite color as ‘sea glass’ kind of a translucent turquoise. Probably closest thing in distress inks to it is peacock. Thanks for asking!

  12. Thanks so much for everything you share. For someone like me with a very stressfuk job, your YouTube channel and blog are great tranquilizers for me throughout the day. My favorite color is any variation of purple. Thanks again!!!

  13. I like blue on white as it has such a crisp, clean look. Your cards are wonderful! I enjoyed a class you did about 6-7 years ago at a store in Dayton, OH. Can’t wait to see you again in Columbus for CREATE!

  14. Love everything about these cards. My fave colors are teal and pink, I just can’t seem to get away from them!

  15. Thanks for all the inspiration! I love the Pantone color of the year “Greenery” (so fresh!) and “Mowed Grass” is the current color I’m loving!

  16. I LOVE your cards…watch many of your videos! I enjoy giving handmade cards mostly for birthdays but “just because” also, I love purple!!!!!! My fav color. I have Seedless Preserves right now but really like the Wilted Violet!

  17. As always, your cards are gorgeous – well designed, bright and cheery. Such a pleasure to look at them. I love that you are making multiple cards too. I tend to do that too – and maybe vary a few design elements – and now I don’t feel so bad when I share them all. Thank you!

  18. These cards are gorgeous! At the moment I have been using different shades of the colour blue! The Mermaid Lagoon DI looks amazing on these cards, I’m thinking I need to purchase one for myself!

  19. Lovely cards and layouts — thanks for sharing! The distress inks can really pack a punch, so they’re fun to play with, though I do tend to gravitate towards earth tones. Lately I have liked a pale Tiffany/Martha Stewart aqua. It depends on the occasion and the person receiving the card, too!

  20. Fabulous collection of cards and matching envelopes. I love using blues, pinks, reds for projects…but I am thrilled when someone sends me something yellow!

  21. Beautiful, beautiful cards Jennifer! Can’t wait to try this technique out with some of the stamps I already own! Thanks so much for sharing all the inspiration and info!! :0)

  22. I love, love, love these cards and can’t wait to try this technique! I used to say red was my favorite color but I seem to be gravitating to teals recently. It keeps making it into all my cards somehow. Haha!

  23. Awesome video — you had a very productive card making session!! I always seem to gravitate towards pool and teal colors in my cards…I’m even planning to use those shades for the craft room I’m planning (in my mind)!

  24. wowza-you sure were on a creative and colorful roll-these cards and the technique-simply amazing!! My fave color to craft with is red . Thanks for sharing and for the giveaway!

  25. I think we all have those days. Mine usually involve a computer crashing. My favorite color to craft with right now is pool party

  26. And i thought that my email was acting funny and my english needed a refreshment course (i live in the Netherlands ;)). I just love the beautifull cards you always make and i’ve learned a lot of new techniques by watching you’re video. My fav colours are the pink ones in every way. My husband is not always pleased with it but with 3 woman in his house he has no choice :p.

  27. My favorite color to craft with, if I had to choose, would be blue! I can’t wait to make cards like these.
