UPDATED: Easy Ombre Backgrounds – Lots of Cards! + GIVEAWAY

UPDATE: My apologies! I am having a rough day. Between some technical difficulties and a few goofs of my own, I decided to redo today’s video and post. I am sorry for the multiple emails and confusion. As an apology I have added a HUGE giveaway! Let’s try this again… ūüôā

Hi there! Today I am sharing a video I started many months ago. Finally! It focuses on an easy way to do ombre backgrounds… and I have lots of examples…

Ahhhhhh… I love to make lots of cards with lots of fun products! It definitely makes me happy. Today I made a huge stack of cards… all with the same technique and design.

In my video, I show how to create easy ombre backgrounds with Clarity Brushes and Mini Ink Blending Tools. You don’t need both to create a this look, but it does give faster results. I also think the best results happen when using Distress Inks since they blend so well.

I also show a fast way to create dimensional word die cuts. I can’t recommend Stick It Adhesive Sheets enough! OH – and adding Judikins Iridescent Sparkle Embossing Powder on top of the die cut makes it sparkle and shine so much…

Since I made so many cards with so many different products (sorry – I was having fun!), I thought it would help to share photos and product links here. Keep in mind that at the end of this post I link to several stores in case one is out of stock. Click the product name for more details.

  1. Jennifer you are the best! Your designs are fabulous and from a personal point of view you had me mesmerized with the designs and colors I did not pay attention to much else‚ėļ, but thanks for the video redo and for all you do! … my favorite color to craft with had to be teal or Purple. Have a wonderful day!

  2. Jennifer,
I love these cards, so I tried it. But when I heat set the embossing powder on the die cuts, it
shrunk up the craft foam. I wondered if you use a special craft foam, mine is just the white
kids craft foam from the craft store.
I liked the purple ones and the peacock feathers ones. I think I made this account with my school
account so that’s why it’s “Mrs. Navickas,” which was really idiotic of me, I didn’t realize it would put that as
    my name when I commented!!

  3. Hi Jennifer,

I rarely comment but I wanted to say how much I enjoy your blog and your inspiration. I usually check in everyday! Thanks for all you do and for a chance to win. I love crafting with greens and blues.

  4. You continue to amaze me Jennifer. Wow, wow, wow! All of these card are so simple but amazing.
I struggle to pick one colour as a favourite, however the paler version of Wilted Violet, with the MFT
Wavy background is speaking to me. I am going to give this technique a go this weekend.
Thank you for sharing and inspiring!

  5. Hi Jennifer! I just love watching your tutorials! I’ve learned so many new techniques. Thanks for providing us with so much inspiration.

  6. I love these cards and can’t wait to try the technique. I always gravitate towards blues, maybe because I have more blue shades of distress ink.

  7. Thanks so much for showing us so many awesome samples. Aqua is my favorite color to create with, except in distress inks then it’s blueprint sketch.

  8. My favorite color to craft with has got to be purple or pink with a bit of black mixed in of course.
BTW these are beautiful! Thank you for the technique video.

  9. Hi Jennifer. (hopefully this isn’t a repost. computer error)
Thank you for sharing your amazing design techniques. I’ve been watching many videos and stocking up on supplies to start a card ministry this year. I’m just¬†beginning to enjoy and appreciate the¬†“Tim Holtz” craze. What a blessed talent he has.¬†Faded Jeans and Iced Spruce look like fun colors. I¬†haven’t purchased¬†any of his ink pads yet. Distressed Minis are on my wish list.¬†¬†
When you make your cards, are they usually without a message inside?
Thank you for being an inspiration
    Lisa

  10. Love these cards. My favorite color is blue, especially ombre from navy to a brighter shade. Thank you for the opportunity to win some stamps!

  11. Wowza, what a fabulous array of cards! And so pretty! Can’t wait to try some of these. I really love the color purple, so I use it whenever I can. and I’m definitely trying this ombre look with the seedless preserves first …

  12. Reds and dark pinks and flowers, but my daughter says I should diversify my colors and stamps into more masculine themes.

  13. Thanks SO VERY MUCH for the detailed descriptions regarding each card. You used some products that I was familiar with but also some new companies and it helps so much to have the names linked to each card!!! (Like I had never heard of kat scrappiness. Sounds fun. I will have to check them out!) I have no idea about my favorite color of ink, however! My go-to color for sentiments is black, but for the other stuff??? With colors for paper, I like a lot of different colors. Just depends on the type of card I’m working on at the time.

  14. Thanks for all these interesting cards. All new to me. My favourite colour to work with is a pretty blue.

  15. Wilted Violet and most any shade of purple. I am a winter and love all the cool colors. Thank you again for all your hard work to bring us these videos.

  16. Love love love these cards! My fav color is teal or blue = blue and variations of blue! thank you for the video and the giveaway.

  17. I love the seedless preserves distress ink. As I get a handle of applying the right amount (not to dark) I just love the richness of the color. I am collecting up all my word dies and distress inks, sparkling embossing powder and small sentiments and I am ready to try your techniques! Keep you fingers crossed for me! If at least one turns out good my mom’s b-day card will be in the mail!!! Thanks for the great ideas!!!

  18. These cards are gorgeous Jennifer! And so easy to replicate with stamps I already have! My favourite colour to craft with is (at the moment ;-)) aqua/turquoise – I love the look of it.

  19. Beautiful cards. My favorite color is blue, but I actually like any bright color. And of course it depends on what I’m creating.

  20. I guess Vintage Photo is my favourite as I use it the most. In the cards I like the seedless preserves. Love all your cards and techniques. I try and give most of them a try. It’s also great to hear about products that work well. Thanks for that too.

  21. I was wondering if I could pick just one color as my favorite for crafting, but I just love to add a touch of gold to every project. These cards are so beautiful! I can’t wait to sit down and make something similar for valentine’s cards this weekend.

  22. Absolutely beautiful cards! I love all of the colors that you used. I find myself drawn to blue and green cards. Thank you for sharing and inspiring. ?

  23. Love your cards! My favorite color to craft with is chocolate brown, it matches with almost every color. Thanks for the great inspiration.

  24. I’ve learned to love so many different colors since I started crafting, but my very favorite is teal! Light, dark, or in between – it doesn’t matter! Thanks so much for taking the time not only to show us the technique, but for showing all of the materials as well!

  25. You did more cards at once than I did in my entire crafting days ? I love purple so I like to include that in the cards I make – sort of personal touch ? this post convinced me that I definitely need more word dies!
