UPDATED: Easy Ombre Backgrounds – Lots of Cards! + GIVEAWAY

UPDATE: My apologies! I am having a rough day. Between some technical difficulties and a few goofs of my own, I decided to redo today’s video and post. I am sorry for the multiple emails and confusion. As an apology I have added a HUGE giveaway! Let’s try this again… 🙂

Hi there! Today I am sharing a video I started many months ago. Finally! It focuses on an easy way to do ombre backgrounds… and I have lots of examples…

Ahhhhhh… I love to make lots of cards with lots of fun products! It definitely makes me happy. Today I made a huge stack of cards… all with the same technique and design.

In my video, I show how to create easy ombre backgrounds with Clarity Brushes and Mini Ink Blending Tools. You don’t need both to create a this look, but it does give faster results. I also think the best results happen when using Distress Inks since they blend so well.

I also show a fast way to create dimensional word die cuts. I can’t recommend Stick It Adhesive Sheets enough! OH – and adding Judikins Iridescent Sparkle Embossing Powder on top of the die cut makes it sparkle and shine so much…

Since I made so many cards with so many different products (sorry – I was having fun!), I thought it would help to share photos and product links here. Keep in mind that at the end of this post I link to several stores in case one is out of stock. Click the product name for more details.

  1. Wow, some amazing cards here! So bright and colourful. I love the colours and the patterns. I’d have to say that the dark purple blessed card would be my favourite followed closely by many other ones!! So much inspiration in this post!! I’d have to say that I don’t have a certain colour I gravitate towards. I love all colours and it often depends on my mood or something I’ve seen (like colour combinations in clothing) or if I know it’s the favourite colour of the person I’m making the card for.

  2. Thanks for making our days so much brighter, hope yours wasn’t too rough. My favourite crafting colour I’d say is green but that’s also my favourite colour.

  3. These are all beautiful! As for the colors,I reallly love the reds and blues (Blueprint is my fav). Thank you, Jennifer, for an awesome and very detailed post.

  4. My favorite color to craft are soft colors lilac, pink,yellow.. but I also love the blue and green combination.. thank you for sharing

  5. Beautiful as always! At the moment Lawn Fawns Merman is my favorite color to work with. Thanks for the chance to win!

  6. Thanks so much Jennifer! I’m glad you stuck with us and didn’t give up till your post went live exactly as you wanted it – it’s such a great video, full of details and inspiration! I was having a rather rough day myself and watching your video in the evening was perfect pre-sleep relaxation 🙂 I don’t think I work with one color more than others, I’m probably more about color-combos, and lately seem to be doing a lot of duo-color designs, so this ombre style is just perfect timing 🙂
    Thanks so much!

  7. Oh Jennifer, thank you for such gorgeous cards! Love this crafting technique! It is so fun and adaptive to so many stamps and colors!
    I love pink….especially raspberry pink!

  12. Such beautiful cards…you always provide so much inspiration! I seem to gravitate to teal in my crafting although my supplies reflect my love of purple!

  13. My favorites colors are any purple and pale yellow. My mom said if you can’t wear a certain color of clothing, then incorporate that color into your decor. I love pale yellow, but look washed out when wearing it. As to purple, who doesn’t like purple.

  14. Hi Jennifer
Loved all these colourful cards you shared today, I think my favourite colour is wilted violet distress ink. Just love purple & lilac on any cards. Thanks for your wonderful tips today.

  16. I eagerly anticipate each and every video. Each video has inspired me with your ability to make even the complicated seem simple. Thank you. My color palate tends towards the vintage- ground espresso is in most of my projects.

  17. Hi Jennifer. So much harder when you are filming for others to see and only want to show the best of your work. I’m thinking that this technique might be great with Christmas cards. I’d use reds greens yellows pinks and purples. Mass produce. Great idea for someone who makes her Christmas cards and doesn’t have time this year. I am working on my daughter’s wedding planning. Thanks for the giveaway. Carol

  18. Such elegant and vibrant cards ? I like light purple, teal and pink shades. Thank you for this lovely giveaway – very kind.

  19. Gosh that’s a hard question ! I guess I’d say my favorite colour to craft with are blues as I like to make nights skies using a blending technique. I also use yellows and pinks if I’m doing a sun-set card.

Great cards….. they’re all very beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

  20. I would have a hard time choosing a favorite color but I love, love, love my Distress Inks. Can’t wait to try the new ones. If asked however, I usually say my favorite color is blue.

My favourite colours are blue’s and turquoises so for that reason i tend to enjoy using these more.

  27. Oh wow, what a delightful selection of cards! The colours are so vibrant and the sentiments so special, any recipient would be pleased as punch to received one of the these. Creative Blessings, Tracy x P.S. My favourite colour to craft with is purple.

  28. Those cards are gorgeous, Jennifer!
The bright colours are so cheerful, and the background stamps look so lovely with the ombré…
My favourite colour to stamp with is anything in the green through aqua spectrum. Beachy and ocean colours are my go to choices. After seeing your cards, though, purple is looking pretty spectacular!

  30. I love these cards and can’t wait to try this technique! Thanks again for your inspiration – my favorite color is red so I love to craft with all shades of red! I also love to ink red and blue combinations.

  31. These cards are all beautiful. I think using distress cubes is one of my favorite parts of this craft. I tend to gravitate towards the blues, purples and pinks. I don’t have all the colors so maybe I would have a different choice if I had more cubes.

  32. Thank you for the many examples, they are so pretty and gave me a lot of inspirations. I have a question, I have the ink blending tool, but I have the problems trying to ink blend, I kept getting the sponge texture on my card. Appreciate if you could give me some tips!
I love making cards with purple. It is my favourite color and it is a very elegant color.
Thank you once again many inspirations.

  33. While purple is my favorite color, I have a hard time pulling it off in card making. I lean more towards reds and blues in card making. You, however, seemed to have pulled off purple quite well. I must try some monochromatic purple cards, soon!

  34. My favorite color to craft with is purple, but I don’t always find it easy to incorporate into my designs. Thanks for all the inspiration and the giveaway. (everyone has bad days, hope your day gets much better.)

  35. These ombre cards are out of this world AmAZING! Totally in love with each and every one of them! My favorite color to create with is blues! Any shade, hue or medium! From yellowish blues to greenish blues! They are all beautiful to me!! Fingers crossed and thanks for the chance to win some awesome stamps and inks!

  36. I generally favor pink, but there’s no color I’d ignore. Beautiful cards. Thank you for the chance to win, Jennifer.

  37. The cards are so pretty…I don’t have a go to color, I guess it just depends on the mood…sometimes it is bright sometimes not so much, but it is all good…a black and white card is what you need some days!

  38. I definitely gravitate towards blues, teals and greens. My favorite one that you showed is the Mermaid Lagoon – gorgeous! Love these cards. Thanks so much for sharing and the chance to win!

  39. YELLOW for happy occasion cards, like Birthday. Just because type of cards, I use purple and blue because I just love those colors. For Sympathy, I use (moss) green.
I love all the cards you made and video taped. Simple yet beautiful!

  40. I look forward to your blog with new ideas. I like that the method because it is quick and easy and looks like you work hard to make a beautiful card. I will make several of these cards. I liked the blue colors but I also liked the “seedless preserves” Thanks! Lynda Comerford
