Sentiment Backdrops + BIG GIVEAWAY

Hi there! Today I am sharing a very simple technique in which I create a backdrop of sentiments for a stamped image.

I was in need of a ton of “thank you” cards – both for a friend and for my own stash. I had such a fun time making all of these – about 60 in total – and wanted to share with you in case you like the technique. It can be used with pretty much any stamps!

I started out by stamping an image and a sentiment with black ink on the front of a white notecard. I then masked the image (using full-sticky-post-it-notes) and stamped the sentiment repeatedly with a light ink… slightly shifting it up or down in my MISTI stamping tool. The result? A fun sentiment backdrop for a simple stamped image.

For the leaf cards, I used the My Favorite Things Geometric Greenery Stamps stamp set, along with sentiments from the My Favorite Things Fall Friends Stamps.

On a few of the cards, I stamped the sentiments at an angle. I really like this look! Using a MISTI stamping tool makes this technique fast and easy, but you could do it without.

For this next one, I used the My Favorite Things Happy Hedgehogs and Kind Thanks Stamp sets. I colored all of the images with the new Spectrum Noir Colorista colored pencils and added a layer of shimmer with my Spectrum Noir Clear Sparkle Pens.

On this next one, I used the fox from the My Favorite Things Fall Friends stamp set and stamped the greeting across the entire card. That fox is so sweet.

The owl is from the same My Favorite Things Fall Friends stamp set

And of course a sweet little pig from the My Favorite Things Hog Heaven stamp set…

I really like the look of the sentiments at a diagonal as I did below. This one uses the leaves set and the amazing My Favorite Things Kind Thanks stamp set.

I also stamped a greeting from the My Favorite Things Kind Thanks stamp set on the back of matching envelopes. I used many Gina K Designs envelopes (which I have been using for some time now) and also Simon Says Stamp envelopes (which are new). Both are gorgeous and great quality.

This technique and design is great for mass producing cards!

So I ended up with almost 60 cards. Not bad! I also intend to make more cards like this, but with holiday images and sentiments… and then donate them to the Caring Hearts Card Drive.

All of those envelopes make my heart happy!

  1. I love the owl, because that is the sentiment I would use the most. However, I think the hedgehog is a cutie.

  2. I like all of the cards with the animals, but my favorite was the HOG HEAVEN stamp where the cute little hog is holding the heart. He looks so sweet it just made me smile. Thank you for another great idea!

  3. “I am beyond grateful” is my favourite. I love the way the words are on an angle as well as the colours draw me in.

  4. My favorite card is one using MFT’s Geometric Greenery stamped at an angle. This is one fab idea, Jennifer. Thanks so much.

  5. What a great idea! I
    love the Owl card but
    all are wonderful. I
    will try this with
    holiday stamps,
    would look good.

  6. Another great technique. Love it. “You Are A Blessing” is my favorite, but they all are just fantastic. The MISTI is revolutionizing stamping!

  7. As with all your cards, it is hard to choose a favorite. I love them all and covet your talent. If I had to choose, I’m in love with that MFT leaf set right now, so that would be the card.

  8. Yikes Jennifer!! Hard to pick a favorite here! But I would have to go with the Fox….such a cute one. I like the balance to the card, sentiment background a little off-set to the right is very pleasing. (but I loved the Leaf one with Your’e so Kind and Compassionate BG) Thanks for the inspiration and the chance at a giveaway!

  9. I would have to say I love them all, I think this is a lovely technique, as I apparently have o choose I will say the little hedge hog. That is only because I have only ever seen 1 in my life and that was when I was in Holland as a little girl.

  10. I love the fox card the most! It really stands out with the sentiment off to the side and from top to bottom!

  11. What a great video and a fun technique. Perfect way to make thank yous or invitations when you need lots of them. I will definitely try this out! Thanks! Have a wonderful weekend.

  12. I love them all, but the hedgehog is my very favorite! Love the cards, and such a simple but striking technique. Thanks for the video!

  13. Oh these are just wonderful! I can’t wait to go make some! It’s very hard to pick a favorite, but I’m leaning towards that darling little pig! 🙂

  14. I think my most favorite one of these is the last one you show: You are a blessing! The colors of the leaf are so fallish. Thank you for the chance to win and for the great inspiration – I want to go and make ones myself. Off to find suitable stamps.

  15. Now I am even more excited to receive my misti! It is hard to choose a fave card so I declare a tie between the hedgehog and the fox!!

  16. Love and Thanks Little Pink Piggy is my favorite. Love all your videos and thanks for the inspiration and chance to win.

  17. What a wonderful idea this is! Easy, and a great effect, I can’t wait to try this! My favorite is the “You’re a Blessing” card, with the colorful leaf. Thanks! I’m always in need if inspiration.

  18. I like Infinitely grateful with leaves done in brown, pink, yellow and green. Actually. I like all the cards!

  19. They are all so cute! Think I like the infinity grateful one, probably because of colors. Thanks for the chance to win!

  20. One favorite that is always so hard… I love them all and want to get right to work mimicking this process. I think everyone needs a hedgehog in their life, he is just so cute but I also like the diagonal stamping with the lite blue it could brighten someones mood. Thanks for sharing!

  21. First of all thank you for all your kindness and always teaching us new techniques. It is so difficult to choose only one favorite but the little pig would have to be my favorite. Tell Lila hi

  22. This looks like a very fun technique to try. I like all the cards you made, but I think my favorite would have to be the pig.
