Sentiment Backdrops + BIG GIVEAWAY

Hi there! Today I am sharing a very simple technique in which I create a backdrop of sentiments for a stamped image.

I was in need of a ton of “thank you” cards – both for a friend and for my own stash. I had such a fun time making all of these – about 60 in total – and wanted to share with you in case you like the technique. It can be used with pretty much any stamps!

I started out by stamping an image and a sentiment with black ink on the front of a white notecard. I then masked the image (using full-sticky-post-it-notes) and stamped the sentiment repeatedly with a light ink… slightly shifting it up or down in my MISTI stamping tool. The result? A fun sentiment backdrop for a simple stamped image.

For the leaf cards, I used the My Favorite Things Geometric Greenery Stamps stamp set, along with sentiments from the My Favorite Things Fall Friends Stamps.

On a few of the cards, I stamped the sentiments at an angle. I really like this look! Using a MISTI stamping tool makes this technique fast and easy, but you could do it without.

For this next one, I used the My Favorite Things Happy Hedgehogs and Kind Thanks Stamp sets. I colored all of the images with the new Spectrum Noir Colorista colored pencils and added a layer of shimmer with my Spectrum Noir Clear Sparkle Pens.

On this next one, I used the fox from the My Favorite Things Fall Friends stamp set and stamped the greeting across the entire card. That fox is so sweet.

The owl is from the same My Favorite Things Fall Friends stamp set

And of course a sweet little pig from the My Favorite Things Hog Heaven stamp set…

I really like the look of the sentiments at a diagonal as I did below. This one uses the leaves set and the amazing My Favorite Things Kind Thanks stamp set.

I also stamped a greeting from the My Favorite Things Kind Thanks stamp set on the back of matching envelopes. I used many Gina K Designs envelopes (which I have been using for some time now) and also Simon Says Stamp envelopes (which are new). Both are gorgeous and great quality.

This technique and design is great for mass producing cards!

So I ended up with almost 60 cards. Not bad! I also intend to make more cards like this, but with holiday images and sentiments… and then donate them to the Caring Hearts Card Drive.

All of those envelopes make my heart happy!

  1. Thank you for the video. You make it look so simple. Love the set of cards you made! My favorite one is the “You’re so kind and compassionate” card. I’m already thinking about some of my smaller stamps that don’t get used that would work great with this design. Thank you.

  2. Thank you for another way to use the Misti!!! If I HAVE to pick one card, I will pick the Piggy….super cute!!

Love every single one of your videos!!

  3. To have to pick between your beautiful cards is hard to do.;-)–they are all so great;! however, the fox card & diagonal are probably the most interesting because the fox tail gives visual interest as does the diagonal.

  4. I Love this idea!! So cute and simple. Absolutely love all the beautiful colors used! My favorite is the fox—such a cutie 🙂

  5. they’re all great so how to pick just one … my fav will be the owl, ‘cuz it made me think of my oldest brother and smile! thanx for the inspiration and blog candy opp!

  9. What a great idea! I love them ALL! But if I absolutely HAD to choose, then I’d be torn between the hedgehog and the little pig. Thank you for sharing this technique.

  10. These backgrounds are a terrific idea and I love the matching envelopes! (of course I always love your ideas!!) As for a favorite, well, I’d say it’s the Million Thanks hedgehog followed closely by the Infinitely Grateful leaves, but I love ’em all!

  11. I love them all but if I had to choose, it would be a toss up between the hedgehog and the little pig. Thanks for sharing the great idea!

  12. Oh, I love the owl card, created with My Favorite Things Fall Friends stamp set, the most. But all of your cards are great and I really like the technique you are presenting. Definitly have to try it! Thank you for sharing!

  14. That little pig is the cutest thing ever! May have to look into getting it. My father always calls me “Piglet”
    =)

  15. Infinitely Grateful with leaves! like the colors & sentiment. Can’t wait to try this technique. I wonder if I can die-cut the mask instead of using scissors?
Thank you for the opportunity to win!

  16. I love all the “critters” ! Precious cards you made, and the ones with greenery are great for men. Such Stamp a greeting from the Many Thanks set all over the card but making one line stand out by using a special color! The MFT Hog Heaven set is too cute, but my favorite is the colors you selected for the owl from the MFT Fall Friends set!

  17. I love the LOVE AND THANKS with the cute pig and heart. Mostly, I love all of them and your choice of colors.
    You are so talented!!!!

  18. I love the Infinitely Grateful diagonal sentiment with the two leaves. The visual interest is brilliant with the direction and the muted colours in the background sentiments! Such a good idea!
