Easy Die Cut Inlay Backgrounds + Blog Hop + Giveaway!

Hello and welcome! Today’s video shares how to create die cut inlay backgrounds. This is a quick technique that works with any die. Oh – and this post is part of a fun blog hop and HUGE STAMPtember® celebration.

Die cut inlay is where you die cut shapes and glue the pieces back together like a puzzle for a smooth look. This is normally a time consuming technique, but today’s cards were quick!

In order for this technique to work, I adhered white cardstock to the back of a piece of new Simon Says Stamp Glimmery Cardstock using Stick-It adhesive. By doubling up, the die only cuts through the top layer and the bottom layer keeps the pieces together – a HUGE time saver. (If your dies cut all the way through, just add another thin layer of cardstock to the back.)

By the way, this Glimmery Cardstock is new and delicious! I love that one side is shiny and textured… and the other side is matte and a bit darker so you can use both sides.

For the pink card, I used the new Simon Says Stamp Bright Blossoms Die and for the yellow card, I used the Cottage Stems Dies. These are both new and have great detail.

The other cards all have backgrounds cut with the Tim Holtz Sizzix Mixed Media 2 Dies. (What a great deal – three dies in one set!) The flourish die is my favorite…

For the embellishments on each card, I die cut and layered two vellum hearts to give a frosted look. The sentiment combines the Simon Says Stamp You Die and You Matter Stamp Set. These can be used together for so many different greetings!

Since the heart is vellum, I hid the adhesive behind the word die and sentiment strip. I used Be Creative tape since it’s super strong!

Detailed dies work amazingly well for this technique, but try using whatever dies you have. Experimenting is part of the fun!

  1. My favorite in this release is the shimmery cardstock. Too bad the variety pack is out of stock right now. It reminds me of Bazzil’s version of this cardstock. Can you please link the Tim Holtz dies you used in your cards, please? They are very pretty especially the floral one you used on the green shimmer cardstock. Thank you much!

  2. Sorry, it’s me again. I guess I wasn’t reading your blog, just watching your videos. I saw the link. I was just used to looking at the end of your post for the products you used on your cards. Thanks again!
