Easy Mirror Image Stamping + GIVEAWAY
Hi there. Today’s video shares how to do mirror image stamping. This technique allows you to take any stamped image you have and create an image that’s the mirror opposite of it. I’ve shared how to do this in the past, but the new MISTI tool and a great stamp set help to make this technique even better.

Learning how to do mirror stamping opens the door to many creative uses of your stamp sets. There are lots of ways to do this technique (one of which I show in THIS video), but today’s method has given me the best results by a landslide.
I was very excited when Paper Smooches brought back the Mirror Block stamp set. This set is *perfect* for mirror stamping (with or without the MISTI) and for many other background techniques. (If you don’t have this stamp set, try using the back side of a stamp image you already have that is large and solid.) For each of the three cards below, I created a mirror image of the critter so I had two facing each other….
I placed the solid image stamp on the door of the MISTI and the animal image on the inside of the MISTI on top of a piece of acetate. After inking the image with VersaFine black ink, I kissed it to the large solid stamp. After removing the image and replacing it with a piece of white cardstock, I stamped the kissed (mirrored) image on top. The great thing about using the MISTI is that it will line up perfectly every time in case you need to double stamp it!
I repeated this technique using the images from the Woofers & Tweeters (dogs) and Briny Blue (fish) stamp sets from Paper Smooches. After also stamping the images as they were intended, I heat embossed all the images using clear embossing powder. I didn’t have the coordinating dies, so I fussy cut them out and placed them on my card in a kissing position.
I wanted to keep the rest of the cards simple so the main focus would be on the mirror image stamping, but I do have some fun finishing touches that you might want to give a try….
- On the “Smooches” card, I die-cut several red hearts to place under the white heart. This way, the heart doesn’t distract from the stamping, but still gives a peek of color from the sides.
- Try heat embossing on top of your sentiment die cuts. I added clear glitter embossing powder to the Smooches die cut word to add interest.
- Try a tone-on-tone, textured background, as I did with the “you are all kinds of wonderful” card. I die cut several borders from the Paper Smooches Heart Borders die of pool cardstock and adhered them on a pool notecard. This gives a lot of texture and dimension without being too distracting.
- Try using dies that don’t cut all the way through the paper, like I did on the fish card. I used a border die from the Polka Dot Borders set from Paper Smooches to cut a peek-a-boo, floating background. This is a fun touch that brings attention to the focal point.
- You can’t go wrong by adding google eyes to any critter image. Ever. 😉

Remember, you don’t have to have the MISTI tool to do mirror image stamping. Be sure to check out THIS video for another way to do this technique.
