Masked Stripes & Interactive Card + GIVEAWAY
Hello. Today’s video shares how to create masked stripes… a simple technique that doesn’t require many tools. I also show some fun products from a wonderful company, Concord & 9th.

A few weeks ago, I did a video showing how to create a striped background with stamps. In the video I mentioned you could get a similar look with masking and many people asked to see that in action. Here it is!
Instead of a simple card base, I decided to use the very clever Concord & 9th Hugs Card Die. This die creates an interlocking, interactive card base! (My video shows how to make this card from 8.5″x11″ cardstock, but you can check out THIS video to see how to make a bigger card from 12″ wide cardstock.) Isn’t the interlocking “hugs” word fabulous? (By the way, you can get the hugs dies and stamps as a discounted bundle HERE.)
To create the masked stripes, I used wide post-it tape (this is great for masking and is also economical) and masked off sections on the card front. I applied a variety of Distress Inks with an Ink Blending Tool, being sure to overlap a bit each time. Once it was dry, I masked off sections on top of the stripes to apply white pigment ink. This creates even more variation.
I finished off the cards by stamping the sentiment and heart images from the Concord & 9th Hugs and Love You Mean It stamp sets using VersaMark ink… and heat set them using white embossing powder. I wanted to keep the rest of the card simple so the main focus would be on the stripes.
I can’t seem to get enough of these colorful backgrounds (you know me!) so I made a couple more cards using a rainbow of colors and a “you’ve got this” die from Concord and 9th.
At the end of my video, I share how I create “my own calligraphy” for envelopes using the Concord & 9th Script Upper and Lower Stamp Sets. (You can get them as a discounted combo HERE.) These are great to have if you are like me and struggle with doing your own fancy writing. 🙂
CONCORD & 9th
I wanted to share a little bit about Concord & 9th in case they were new to you. Concord & 9th is a newer crafting company with clever products. The owners are Greg and Angie, who are both talented designers. I first “met” them online when they sent me a kind email in the early fall introducing themselves, but not asking for anything. I told them about my Share Handmade Kindness challenge that was about to start and they were very supportive in a very real way. I met Greg in person at the CHA craft show and was impressed immediately by his willingness to go to lunch with a bunch of loud crafty girls…. and that he didn’t run away when our giggling got out of control. 🙂 I haven’t met Angie yet but can’t wait to do so! These folks have done a lot for our industry in a short amount of time and it is appreciated.
You can find Concord & 9th HERE… along with their blog and YouTube channel. (Be sure to subscribe – they have great videos!)
Oh, and here is that photo from that CHA lunch. I love these peeps…

Oh – and they didn’t ask me to do this post. I actually contacted them and asked if they wanted a guest video. I like them that much. 🙂
